An Iowa man was killed in
a one vehicle accident in Harrison County Monday.
33-year-old Kirk Roland of Burlington Iowa died Monday afternoon in the accident on US 136 Highway.
His 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo went off the roadway while traveling westbound.
He over-corrected, and went off the other side of the road striking a tree and the vehicle rolled onto it’s roof. Roland was pronounced dead at the scene by the Harrison County Coroner.
The Highway Patrol says the man was wearing a seat belt.
Edward Peter Mees 57, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday September 9, 2013. He was born February 9, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois son of Anos & Edward Mees. He was a computer tech. He was a 7th Day Adventist. Edward was preceded in death by his parents. Jesse Lee Charles 80, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday September 7, 2013. He was born June 3, 1933 in Nodaway County, Missouri son of Mary & Lawrence Charles. He worked at Iowa Missouri Walnut Co as a Logger. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents. Keaton Thomas Shuey-Pullen newborn infant son of Alexandra Shuey and Jeremy Pullen, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Saint Joseph, MO. Bob Gene Winslow 85, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at a local hospital.
He was born December 9, 1927 in Maitland, MO, son of Edna and Orvel Winslow. He graduated from Fortiscue high school. He married Evelyn Sue Kurtz on September 7, 1958.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War as a medical technician and during his service he received a Parachutist Badge, a Purple Heart, and the WWII Victory Medal. After his military service he was employed at at Burlington Northern Railroad from 1649-1960, he then worked for TWA as a certified welder retiring in 1986.
He also owned and operated BobWinslow Sporting Goods & Heliarc Welding. He was a member of VFW Post 6760, American Legion post 359, and was a member of the St. Joseph Rifle and Pistol Club serving as secretary for 15 years, and was a Life Time Member of the NRA. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Orvel and Edna Winslow, two sisters, Barbara Hall & his twin sister Betty Winslow. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Sue Winslow of the home, one daughter, Sharon Kay Vindell (Tony) of Brownsville, TX, two grandchildren, Gwen Vindell and Antonio Vindell, two sisters, Alberta Chuning of Independence, Mo; and Beverly Quimby of Mound City, Mo. and one brother, David Winslow of Bentonville, Ar.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Rupp Funeral Home . The Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery, in Oregon, Mo. Robert (Bob) Paul Jornayvaz, Jr., 84, Temple, Texas formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri and San Antonio, Texas died June 25, 2013 after a long illness.
He was born in St. Joseph on January 10, 1929. He was the grandson of Michael K. and Lena Goetz of St. Joseph, founders of the former Goetz Brewery.
He was married to Rosalie Meluney of St. Joseph. Bob was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather having spent his time making sure everyone benefited from his superb cooking which he was
famous for.
He was a graduate of the 1947 Class of Central high School, St. Joseph, Missouri and the University of Kansas, Topeka, Kansas. He was employed by the Goetz Brewing Company until it’s sale to the Pearl
brewing Company in San Antonio where he became the Vice-President of Marketing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Paul and Mildred (Goetz) Jornayvaz; and sister, Mildred “Middo” Jornayvaz Tusher. He is survived by his loving sons, Paul Eugene Jornayvaz and wife Mary of Houston, and Robert Paul Jornayvaz, III, and his wife Louisa of Denver, Colorado; and nieces Marcie Tusher and Jennifer L. Teresa Lynn Sloan
1961-2013
Teresa Lynn Sloan, 52, St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was born June 24, 1961 to Francis and Roseanne (Fosha) Kramer.
She graduated from Manhattan High School and Washburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked her entire nursing career at Leavenworth VA. She was nurse manager of the emergency room and out-patient clinics. Her last assignment was at St. Joseph Outreach Clinic. She medically retired in March 2011.
She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Kansas State Choir and traveled to perform in Russia. She also sang in Manhattan High School choir. She enjoyed motorcycling and owned and rode a Heritage Springer Harley Davidson. She was lifetime member of Harley Davidson Owner’s Group. Teresa was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in the church choir. Teresa had recently enjoyed and led some bible study classes.
October 20, 1991 she married Richard Sloan.
Survivors: husband; son, Robert (Sonja) Sloan; daughter, Susan (Phil) Sarver; five grandchildren, Sarah, Bobby, Lydia, Jacob, and Jackson, all of St. Joseph, Missouri; and sister, LeeAnn Kramer, Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Donna Hayes; and mother-in-law, Opal Sloan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Steven and Kyle.

Helen Langtim Vogel, 89, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Helen was born in St. Joseph, Missouri and lived here until 1995 when she and her husband, Gilbert Vogel, moved to Kingsport, Tennessee, to be close to their only son Ernie and his family.

Ruth Elaine Swymeler
1921-2013
Ruth Elaine Swymeler died Thursday, September 5, 2013. She was born March 1, 1921 to Roy and Nellie Kline in Maitland, Missouri. In 1938 she graduated from the Mound City High School. She married Clinton Swymeler of Mound City, Missouri on March 18, 1939. They farmed two years at Mirabel, Missouri and sixty years in Andrew County, and then moved to Mound City. Ruth worked at LaVerna Village in Savannah, in the dietary department and retired from there in December 1984.
Mrs. Swymeler was a member of the Antioch Church, Fillmore, Missouri, a former member of the Shiloh UB Church of Maitland, past president of the Antioch Auxiliary, and volunteered with RSVP at Laverna Village.
Ruth was a wonderful and kind mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a great grandson, Matthew Swymeler; brothers, Allen R and Richard Kline; and a brother-in-law, Bob Gilland.
Survivors: two sons, Ronald Swymeler (Becky), Woodburn, Indiana and Rodney “Yogi” Swymeler (Katheryn), Mound City, Missouri; two daughters, Joyce Drydale (Loyd), Wichita, Kansas and Gaynell Waggoner (Harold), Franklin, Indiana; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Dorothy Gilland; and two sisters-in-law, Helen and Janis Kline.
