Eileen V. Peuker, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at her home. She was born November 26, 1918 to John and Anna Wilke in Troy, Kansas. Eileen married Junior Ernest Peuker on September 21, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2007. She was a teacher in Doniphan and Atchison Counties for four years, and a waitress at Tik Tok Restaurant for eighteen years. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church. Mrs. Peuker loved flowers and was known as the Iris lady. She loved to research her family history and having people around her. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Randy Peuker; brother, Merrill Wilke; and parents. Michael Roy Tyner

1954-2012

Michael Roy Tyner, 58, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at his home. He was born August 3, 1954 to Roy Herman and Jeanne Marie (Kennedy) Tyner in Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Tyner served in the United States Navy. Michael earned a Masters degree in Social work from Florida State University. After graduating he worked as a drug and alcohol counselor in the states of Florida and Missouri. He later worked for Meril in customer service. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steven L. Chancey

1950-2012

Steven L. Chancey, son of Marjorie and the late Wesley Chancey of, St. Joseph, Missouri died peacefully surrounded by family and friends Tuesday, December 25, 2012. Mr. Chancey was a 1968 graduate of Lafayette High School and afterward entered the US Air Force at Lackland AFB, Texas. Mr. Chancey was stationed at Clack AFB in the Philippines during Vietnam and was with the Intelligence Service during that time. After his tour in Asia, he was stationed at various duty stations in the U.S. serving in the JAG Corps. After his service, Mr. Chancey had a distinguished career in the government service. Steven was married to Patty Zowadny and later divorced, they had four children. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Chancey Gilmore; two sisters, Linda Stevens (Charles Wayne), St. Joseph, Missouri and Marjorie Kendall, Savannah, Missouri; brother, Mike Chancey (Holly), Denver, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews, and loving friends. Virginia S. Cox Glauser, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at a local healthcare facility. Virginia was born on November 27, 1921 to Lloyd C. and Mabel G. (Taylor) Steeby. She married Jesse Cox Sr. on June 16, 1942. She later married Ernie Glauser. Virginia was a homemaker and a member of Marvin McMurray United Methodist Church, where she had been a choir director, and a member of United Methodist Women. She was a lover of music, gardening, and athletic events of her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and sister, Georgia Sparks. Jack Woodside Clayton

Jack Woodside Clayton, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was a life-long resident of St. Joseph, Missouri where he was born on August 4, 1932. Jack married Sharon “Suzy” McKernan on August 27, 1960. She survives of the home. He attended Central High School, where he graduated in 1951. He then attended University of Missouri-Columbia and served in the Korean War for the United States Army. Jack was the owner of Sheridan Clayton Paper from 1956-1987 and Clayton Paper and Distribution from 1992-present. He served on many boards including United Missouri Bank and Commerce Bank, the youngest director for Mechanic Bank, President of St. Joseph Country Club, President of Mount Mora Cemetery, a member of the Boosters Club, Jesters, NPTA, ISSA, and The United Group. Mr. Clayton was an avid golfer and tennis player and loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Patee Clayton. Thelma (Adler) Carmen, 98, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at a Kansas healthcare facility. She was born February 2, 1914 to Jacob and Fannie Adler in St. Joseph, Missouri. Thelma married Harry C. Carmen on December 25, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1968. She was a member of Temple B’nai Sholem and American Contract Bridge League. She had been a substitute teacher for the St. Joseph School District and helped with numerous volunteer organizations throughout her life. VANCE E. LEININGER

1916-2012

Vance Elmore Leininger, died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at The Living Community, St. Joseph, Missouri. Vance was born on February 2, 1916, in Gordon, Sheridan County, Nebraska, the youngest son of George Samuel and Ethel (Burns) Leininger. Shortly after Vance’s birth the family relocated to Fullerton, Nance County, NE, near the family homestead in rural Sherman County. Vance attended Fullerton High School where he excelled in music, football, and all of his classes. In 1937 he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) where he belonged to Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He taught public school music in Stanton, Iowa, and on Dec. 25, 1938 married Mary Lucille Davisson of Falls City, NE. Vance was music director of the Stanton public schools, during which time he also studied for a Master of Fine Arts at the Northwestern University School of Music in Evanston, IL. They subsequently moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where Vance taught high school Latin and English as well as music. From 1942 to 1946, Vance served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer teaching radio electronics for the Radio Materiel School at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C. After his military service, the family moved back to Nebraska where Vance earned his Bachelor of Laws degree at UNL in 1948. He joined the law firm of Walter and Albert in Columbus, NE, where his 40-year practice consisted of wills, estates, business contracts, real estate, and public power litigation. He was a member of the American College of Probate Counsel, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and President of the Platte County Bar Association. According to one of his law firm partners, he was a “lawyer’s lawyer whom one could turn to for help with especially difficult legal problems.” In the 1970s, Vance was under consideration as a candidate for justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court but decided to continue as senior partner of his law firm. Vance was President of the Columbus School Board in 1960 when the new Columbus Senior High School opened. He belonged to Rotary, Elks, and Masonic Lodge No. 323. The Leininger family belonged to the Federated Church in Columbus. In 1987 Vance and Mary moved to St. Joseph where they joined the First Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph Country Club, Moila Club, and the Benton Club. Vance was also on the Performing Arts Association Board. Vance was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Harold of Hemet, CA, Donald of Grand Island, NE, and Forrest of Beatrice, NE. He is survived by his wife and three sons (Kurt of Malvern, PA, Joel of Chapel Hill, NC, and Ralph of Dayton, OH); one niece (Linda Anderson of Montesano, WA); one nephew (D. Dolores A. Pike

1946-2012

Dolores A. Pike, 65, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at her residence. Dolores was born December 25, 1946 to Refugio and Vera (Wells) Hernandez. She married David E. Pike on February 7, 1970. He preceded her in death on September 15, 2004. Mrs. Pike worked for the St. Joseph School District for 10 years in the food service department and was a member of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Michael Blancarte and Rufus Hernandez. Survivors: sons, Jeffrey Pike and David A. Evelyn Rose Peterson
Maryville, Missouri

Evelyn Rose Peterson, 96, Maryville, Missouri, died Wednesday, December 19,
2012,  at Village Care Center in Maryville.
Evelyn  was born  July 25, 1916, in Maryville, to Fred  and Elizabeth
(Wilmes) Auffert.
She was a 1934 graduate of  St. Patrick’s High School,  a homemaker and had
worked as a bookkeeper for the JC Penney Store all of Maryville.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Russell Carl  Peterson on  April 14, 1955,
in Maryville.  Evelyn and Russell spent most of their married life on a farm
near Maitland, Missouri.  While living in Maitland, Evelyn was a member of
the Town and Country Extension Club, Community Betterment Program, and the
Depot Crew.  They retired from farming in 1985, moving back to Maryville.
Russell preceded her in death on April 3, 1987.
While living in Maryville, Evelyn  was an honorary member of the MO Omicron
Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Widow Person Service, and various card
clubs.  She was a lifelong devout Catholic and was a member of St. Gregory’s
Catholic Church, Maryville; where she was active in the St. Therese’s Guild.
Others preceding her in death were brothers Sylvester, Richard,and Fred
Auffert, and two sisters Kay Pfeifer Taylor and Marie Gallagher.
Survivors include three sister-in-laws, Shirley Auffert and Isabelle
Auffert, both of Maryville, and Arvella Peterson, Atlantic, Iowa; five
nephews; eight nieces, and numerous great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.
For those that had the privlege of knowing her, she will be remembered as a
very kind, faithful, and fun loving woman and will be truly missed.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7 PM, Friday, December 21 at St. Gregory’s
followed by a Parish Rosary at 7 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held
at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church at 10 AM, Saturday, December 22.  Burial
will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maryville.

Daniel J. Gross, 55, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at his home. He was born on May 2, 1957 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Daniel married Dorothy Nolan on November 30, 1976. She survives of the home. He was a successful business owner and operator of A-1 Industries and Gross Disposal, loved travelling, was a workaholic and a proud grandpa. James C. Watson

1921-2012

James C. Watson, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 16, 1921 to R. Clay and Paulette Watson in Stewartsville, Missouri. Mr. Watson enlisted in the United States Navy on December 11, 1941, and after World War II returned to the St. Joseph area. In 1950 Jim began working for Wire Rope Corporation of America, Incorporated. Mr. Watson was a union steward and a trustee and served as vice-president and president of Local 5783, United Steel Workers of America. James served as a member of the Board of Education for the St. Joseph School District from April 1968, through March 1980. For two years during his tenure, James served as vice-president of the Board, and in 1972-73 he was president of the Board. Mr. Watson was selected Lay Educator of the Year by Phi Delta Kappa in 1976-77. He was presented an Honorary Teaching Certificate by the St. Joseph Board of Education and was recognized by Wire Rope Corporation for his dedication and service to the St. Joseph community. He was also a member of American Legion Post 11 and Wyatt Park Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; second wife, Madelyn; parents; and two brothers, Bob and Bill Watson. Mary Putman Hahn
Maryville, Missouri

Mary Putman Hahn, 85, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Stanberry, Missouri,
died Tuesday, December 18, 2012,  at her home in Maryville.
Mary was born  February 22, 1927, in Portland, Oregon to Garfield  and
Marcella Edna Putman Rusk,   As a child Mary enjoyed having a special
connection with all kinds of animals. She  spent her teen years in a logging
community and a whaling camp.  She was an honest to goodness Rosie The
Riveter during World War II and spent her latter years as a Nursing
Assistant at the  Regional Diagnostic Center, Albany, Missouri.
She married first Albert Charles Ridgeway.  He preceded her in death  along
with a grandson Steven Clifford, two sisters, and one brother.
Mary was united in marriage to James Samuel Hahn  March 4, 1956, in Las
Vegas, Nevada.  He too preceded her in death.
She is survived by ten children; Joan Given, Judy Clifford, Betty Spire and
Betty Goerke all of Maryville, Connie Turman and Debbie Hahn both of Denver,
Colorado, Marcella Cicciarelli, State of Arizona, Sandra (Sam) Hahn,
Crossville, Tennessee; two sons Bert Ridgeway, Bryant, Texas, and James D.
Hahn, Nixa, Missouri; 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Mary’s body has been cremated, no service will be held and her cremains will
be buried at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas at a
later date.

Harley Marie Teem, 14, St. Joseph, Missouri died suddenly Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, following a lifelong battle with a heart defect. She was born May 5, 1998 to Craig and Heidi Teem in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she lived her life. Harley was a beautiful, loving, compassionate girl who loved animals, singing, art, poetry, attending school at Truman Middle School, and caring for people. Timothy J. Alkire

Timothy J. Alkire, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 28, 1922 to Timothy and Linnie Alkire in Barbard, Missouri. Timothy married Velda Deane (King) Alkire on February 18, 1965. She survives of the home. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II, where he was wounded in Germany and awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze star. He was a Prisoner of War for ninety days and participated in the European Theater. Mr. Alkire was self- employed and worked in construction for sixty years. He owned Alkire Roofing and Siding, received a Realtor License in 1973, and owned Alkire Realty. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Virgil and Arnold Alkire; and two sisters, Bessie Neil and Goldia Lance. Survivors: wife; two sons, Tim L. Leo Whitaker, 100, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri left this life on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on November 30, 1912 to William and Edith Whitaker in St. Joseph, Missouri. Leo married Rosie Donnelly on June 18, 1938. She preceded him in death on May 3, 1993 after 54 wonderful years of marriage. He was a supervisor for St. Joe Power and Light Bus Division for thirty-seven years. He was also a member of the Moila Shrine Temple Brotherhood Lodge 269 and Masonic High Twelve Club 49. He was an active member of 1st Lutheran Church of St. Joseph until he moved to Springfield 2 years ago to be closer to his family. He was a loving parent and grandparent who always put his family first. Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Bill, Henry, and Calvin Whitaker. Marietta Spugnardi Hoehn, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, December 14, 2012 at a local healthcare facility. Marietta was born October 1, 1925 to Anthony and Dulcie (Smith) Spugnardi. She married Basil C. Hoehn on May 29, 1948. Mrs. Hoehn worked at Swift & Company, St. Joseph Light and Power, Noma Lites and was a bookkeeper for St. Joseph Teachers’ Credit Union. Stacy Lynn Anderson went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, surrounded by family, December 14, 2012 at her home in Faucett, Missouri. Stacy was born February 9, 1964 in St. Joseph, Missouri to James A. and Linda Jo Anderson. She was 48 years old. Stacy was an honor Graduate of Central Missouri State University, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. She also attended Law School at Univeristy of Missouri-Kansas City for one year. She received her Para-Legal license from Missouri Western State University. Stacy had been employed at KFEQ Radio and had worked for attorney Creath Thorne for the past twelve years. Her ill health forced her to leave that position in July 2012. Stacy was a member and former treasurer at Faucett Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles and entertaining her precious niece, Alexis. Survivors: parents; one sister, Ronny Jo Cotton (Mark); and her very special niece, Alexis Lynne Cotton. Clinton Andrew Justice “Sam”, a proud Veteran of the US Navy, 57, St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at his residence. He was born December 4, 1955 to Elmer and Lovella (Markham) Justice. Mr. Justice married Tammy (Benner) Justice. Sam was an avid Chiefs fan, enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed playing “Rock Band” with his children. John S. Adams, Jr., 76, St. Joseph, Missouri died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at a local healthcare facility. He was born May 5, 1936 to John and Margaret Adams in Goodland, Missouri. John married Jean Adams on October 13, 1963. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2012. He was in the United States Navy and worked for the State of Missouri as a Conservation Agent. Mr. Adams loved antiquing and trading. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, and canoeing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.
