(AP) — Kansas City police have identified the man who died in Arrowhead Stadium’s parking lot on Sunday as 30-year-old Kyle A. Vanwinkle of Smithville.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp says an examination of Vanwinkle’s body did not show obvious signs of trauma. He says it could be four to six weeks before the cause of death is determined.

Officers responded at 5:20 p.m. Sunday to an altercation in the parking lot and found Vanwinkle unconscious on the ground. Snapp says a Jeep owner and his son returned to the vehicle during the Chiefs game against Denver and found Vanwinkle inside, leading to a fight.

He says Vanwinkle was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Three people taken into custody for questioning were released Monday with no charges filed.

(AP) – Police say officers are searching a suburban Kansas City home in connection with the death of a man found unconscious in the stadium parking lot during Sunday’s Chiefs-Broncos game.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp said Monday that detectives received information that evidence related to the man’s death is at the home in Independence.

Snapp says officers called to the scene Sunday evening in the parking lot outside Arrowhead Stadium found the man unconscious in a vehicle that wasn’t his. He says the man had apparently had an altercation with the vehicle’s owner.

An autopsy will determine how the man died. Police haven’t released his name but say he’s in his mid-20s.

Three people were taken into custody for questioning and were expected to be released later Monday.

(AP) – President Barack Obama has announced a new initiative at the National Institutes of Health in pursuit of a cure for HIV.

Obama says his administration is redirecting $100 million into the project to find a new generation of therapies. He said the United States should be at the forefront of discoveries to eliminate HIV or put it into remission without requiring lifelong therapy.

Obama made the announcement Monday at a White House event marking World AIDS Day, which was Sunday.

The president also announced that the U.S. passed the ambitious goal he set last year to support 6 million people around the globe in getting access to anti-retroviral drugs. Obama said the U.S. helped 6.7 million people receive life-saving treatment.

(AP) – Springfield police say a preliminary investigation indicates a man apparently shot himself to death while he was hospitalized but the circumstances of his wife’s shooting are still being determined.

Police say 79-year-old Booker Cox Jr. died in the shooting Saturday evening at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

His wife, 69-year-old Carolyn Cox, is still being treated Monday after the shooting. Her condition was not released. Police say in a statement that the full circumstances of her shooting are still being investigated.

Investigators say there is no evidence that anyone else was involved in the shootings.

(AP) — The Supreme Court has refused to consider throwing out New York State’s taxes on Internet purchases on websites like Amazon.com, a move that could change the way Internet commerce works.

The high court on Monday refused to hear appeals from Amazon.com LLC and Overstock.com Inc., in their fights against a state law that forces them to remit sales tax the same way in-state businesses do.

Web retailers generally have not had to charge sales taxes in states where they lack a store or some other physical presence. But New York and other states say that a retailer has a physical presence when it uses affiliates — people and businesses that refer customers to the retailer’s website and collect a commission on sales.

Amazon and Overstock both use affiliate programs.

 (AP) — A Christian sports camp network based in Branson is facing two lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by its ex-director, who is serving a long prison sentence for sexual abuse of boys at a camp.

One lawsuit, filed in Taney County against Kanakuk Kamps, alleges former director Peter Newman molested a boy from 2000 to 2005. The second case, filed in federal court in Dallas, alleges Newman sexually abused a camper from 2001 through 2007.

The lawsuits allege camp officials knew about Newman’s behavior but didn’t keep him away from children.

The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/1apQ5W9 ) two similar lawsuits, both filed in 2011, were settled this year.

Newman is serving two life sentences plus 30 years for his abuse convictions.

A Kanakuk spokesman said camp officials couldn’t discuss pending litigation.

(AP) The number of people on food stamps declined after Missouri ended most face-to-face contact between social services caseworkers and people seeking public assistance.

State officials say centralized processing and a new software system will make the application process more efficient. But social services advocates say the new process is making it harder to sign up and easier to get thrown off the rolls.

The process has food stamp applicants drop off their paperwork at a family support office and wait for a telephone call from a caseworker. But advocates say missed calls and other issues are leading to a denial of benefits when a 30-day deadline hits.

Food stamp rolls have shrunk 3.3 percent since the changes began in July.

(AP) — A monthly economic report says business conditions in nine Midwestern states improved slightly in November.

The Mid-America Business Conditions Index rose to a tepid 51.2 on a growth scale of 0 to 100. The index was growth-neutral in October at 50.0, the lowest level since 2012.

Creighton University economist Ernie Goss says the region’s heavy manufacturers reported solid increases in new export orders in November. The region’s employment gauge also jumped to 51.2 in November, from 48.2 the previous month. Goss attributes the October downturn to the federal government’s partial shutdown.

States included in the survey are Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

(AP) – A recent Missouri Department of Transportation study estimates that the annual economic output of the state’s airport system is $11.1 billion.

The study examined the nine commercial and 99 public-use airports that the agency supports. Combined, the airports contribute more than 100,000 jobs with a payroll of $3.1 billion.

Using Federal Aviation Administration guidelines, the study examined direct and indirect impacts. It found that the economic contribution of Missouri airports grew 17.1 percent in the past decade despite the economic recession. The growth was fueled largely by an increase in business activity.

In 2012, an estimated 6.2 million travelers arrived in Missouri via commercial airports and more than 260,000 arrived on general aviation aircraft.
