A southwest Missouri woman has been charged with having illegal sex with a teenager and helping dispose of her body last year in Truman Lake.

Court documents unsealed last week show that 37-year-old Amy Leigh Hartley, of Buffalo, faces charges that include statutory sodomy, tampering with physical evidence and abandonment of a corpse. No attorney is listed for her in online court records.

The criminal complaint identifies the girl only by the initials “K.P.” The complaint accuses Hartley of helping move the body after the death and washing bedding in an effort to thwart investigators.

 (AP) – Columbia police say they’ve confirmed the identity of a man struck and killed early Saturday while riding a bicycle on Interstate 70.

Police said Wednesday that DNA testing confirmed the victim as 36-year-old Ennis Patrick, of Columbia. Officers also believe they located the truck that hit Patrick’s bicycle and are awaiting more tests to confirm the connection.

A truck driver notified the Missouri Highway Patrol around 4 a.m. Sunday that he might have hit a deer at the I-70 exit to U.S. 63.

The case was forwarded to Columbia police, who began an investigation several hours later when motorists began reporting bloody clothing, boots and remains on the interstate.

2 p.m. Wednesday (AP) – Funeral services have been announced for former Missouri congressman Ike Skelton.

The Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home says visitation is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in Grondyke Hall at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington.

Skelton’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Wikoff Hall, also on the Wentworth campus. A burial service with military rites is to occur at the Machpelah Cemetery in Lexington.

Skelton died this past Monday of complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Virginia. He was 81.

Skelton served in the U.S. House for 34 years before losing re-election in 2010. He never served in the military but was chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and a staunch advocate for the armed forces.

7 p.m. Tuesday (AP) – A funeral home in Ike Skelton’s hometown says the former 17-term Missouri congressman died of complications from pneumonia.

Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington included the cause of death in a preliminary obituary Tuesday.

Skelton died Monday at the age of 81 in a Virginia hospital surrounded by his wife, his sons and their families. Also present was his longtime friend and colleague Russell Orban, who said Skelton had entered the hospital a week earlier with a bad cough.

Skelton, a Democrat, served 34 years in the U.S. House before losing in 2010 to Republican Vicky Hartzler in Missouri’s 4th Congressional District. He had practiced law since then in Missouri and Washington, D.C., and had homes in Lexington and McLean, Va.

Family members are planning a memorial service in Lexington.

Monday p.m.  (AP) – Former Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton, a champion of the military who served 17 terms in the U.S. House before losing a re-election bid in 2010, has died. He was 81.

Skelton died Monday at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., surrounded by family and friends, including longtime colleague Russell Orban.

The cause was not immediately released, but Orban says Skelton entered the hospital a week earlier with a cough. Oban confirmed Skelton’s death to The Associated Press.

The Lexington, Mo., native was a Democrat and former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Skelton lost to Republican Vicky Hartzler in 2010 in western Missouri’s 4th Congressional District. He then joined the law firm of Kansas City-based Husch Blackwell, working in its offices in Kansas City and Washington.

A former Missouri death row inmate says he can now try to put his life back together after a prosecutor dismissed a murder charge in the fatal stabbing of a fellow inmate 30 years ago.

Reggie Griffin says he has gotten married and landed a job in the year since he was released from prison while awaiting a new trial. The 53-year-old says he found out Friday that Randolph County prosecutor Mike Fusselmann was dropping the charge.

The Missouri Supreme Court overturned his conviction in 2011, saying it was “no longer worthy of confidence.”

(AP) – A national expert on fighting poverty has been invited to the Ozarks to help an anti-poverty campaign

Twelve organizations announced Wednesday that Ruby K. Payne will visit Springfield Feb. 11-12. She is the author of “A Framework for Understanding Poverty.”

The 12 organizations are launching an initiative to combat issues facing children, such as poverty, child abuse and neglect.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Payne has spoken in every U.S. state and more than 10 countries on overcoming poverty.

Morey Mechlin, executive director of Care to Learn, said the organizations will provide Payne with an extensive packet on Springfield before her visit. Payne will use the information to discuss existing strategies and others that could be used to reduce poverty.

Her visit is expected to cost about $20,000.

The reward for information in the shooting death of a Kansas City man has increased to $4,000.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in the June 30 death of 47-year-old David Ruth in northern Kansas City. Police believe Ruth was shot during a robbery at his home. His firearms were taken and his truck was found abandoned more than 10 miles from his home.

Ruth was the brother of Sgt. Danny Ruth of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. Danny Ruth says he’s confident the killer will eventually be caught.

Wednesday 7 a.m. (AP) – Pulaski County authorities say remains found near Dixon belonged to a young person who died at least a year ago but they have not been able to identify the body.

Pulaski County Sheriff Ron Long says the remains were those of a pre-teenager. The body’s gender has not been determined. Long says it’s unclear how long the remains had been in the area before a photographer found them over the weekend.

The Lake Sun Leader reports St. Louis University forensic experts have been asked to help identify the body.

Long says investigators believe the person has been dead for at least a year but the time frame could be longer.

He says no current missing adolescent cases in the county match the time frame of the remains.

(AP) – A sheriff says the cause of death of a child whose remains were found in south-central Missouri might never be known, but investigators hope to learn the identity.

A photographer taking pictures of trees discovered the skeletal remains on Saturday on private, rural property near Dixon, about 30 feet from a road.

Pulaski County Sheriff Ron Long said Monday the remains appear to have been at the site at least a year. A forensic pathologist concluded they were those of a preteen adolescent, but the gender is unknown.

Long says the limited physical evidence means the cause of death could be impossible to determine. For now, he says, investigators are checking area reports of missing children from the past few years.

(AP) – A southeast Missouri man is dead and another man is in custody after an apparent dispute over property.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s office says 41-year-old Carl Streeval, who lived near Patterson, was found dead Monday evening. Sheriff Dean Finch says Streeval called police and said he had been shot by his step-father-in-law. He was dead when authorities arrived.

KFVS reports the suspect was standing in the front yard when officers arrived.

Finch says the shooting apparently stemmed from an ongoing property dispute at the victim’s home.
