11 indicted for drug crimes in Nodaway County

jury, hammer, courtAn undercover investigation in Nodaway County has resulted in nearly a dozen arrests.

According to a news release from the Maryville Department of Public Safety, law enforcement agencies  in northwest Missouri have been busy this week conducting arrest warrant services after a Grand Jury handed down 11 indictments for people allegedly involving in distributing drugs.  The warrants are a result of a multi-agency investigation that started in the fall of 2016.

The sales allegedly involved marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and prescription drugs.  The investigation used an undercover operative who was under the supervision of Maryville Public Safety and Buchanan County Drug Strike Force agencies.

The release states that since 2012, Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice has used a Grand Jury on undercover drug investigations, sexual offenses against children, and domestic violence.  A Grand Jury indictment allows law enforcement to conduct many controlled buys with the same undercover operative before formally charging the accused.  To return an indictment, a Grand Jury must find probable cause exists that the accused committed the offense.

Anyone with knowledge of or who suspects drug trafficking is asked to call Maryville Public Safety at 660-562-3209 or the Nodaway Count Sheriff’s Office at 660-582-7451.

Chase suspect was on probation in tampering case after guilty plea two months ago

Bryson McCray

A man suspected of stealing a car in south St. Joe and then leading authorities on a high speed chase early Sunday appeared in court Tuesday.

Bryson Anthony McCray was charged with stealing and resisting arrest after the case Sunday morning that ended near St. Joseph Ave. and Highland. Online court records indicate McCray pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of vehicle tampering just two months ago.

On March 1, he received a suspended, 60-day sentence and was placed on probation. Prosecutors filed a motion on Tuesday to revoke that probation.

A detective said in court documents that McCray stole a Red Grand Am early Sunday morning by punching a man in the face and then pointing a firearm and ordering others out of the vehicle. The vehicle was spotted later in Atchison, Kansas, and a pursuit by authorities crossed back into Missouri and up U.S. Highway 59 and I-229 to St. Joseph Ave. Police said they deployed spike sticks and the suspect stopped near Highland. After a brief standoff, McCray was arrested.

In court on Tuesday, Associate Circuit Judge Rebecca Spencer scheduled the case for the prelminary hearing docket May 18. McCray remains in custody, unable to post $25,000 cash bail.

(Missourinet) – At least 77 state-owned roads in Missouri are under water, and MODOT officials expect that figure to increase.

Mark Fuchs with the National Weather Service says two or more inches of rain is expected Tuesday in the St. Louis region.

“It appears that the majority of the impact from this oncoming rain will be in the form of a secondary crest behind it or a prolonged bit of flooding for the folks that are near crest down near the bottom of the Meramec River basin,” Fuchs said.

Sgt. Al Nothum said the State Patrol is working long hours to help keep Missourians safe. Hundreds of water rescues have been completed since Saturday.

“Our marine troopers have been working literally for the past three days around the clock,” Nothum said. “I talked to one the other night and I think he had three or four hours of sleep, then he was getting up again and going out again.”

Three people have been killed by the recent flooding, including in mid-Missouri’s Pulaski County, southwest Missouri’s Clever and eastern Missouri’s Jefferson County.

Increasing clouds with temps in the upper 60s

weather-5-2The main concern over the next day or two will be the potential for more rain and additional flooding. Despite a pleasant day today with highs in the upper 60s, clouds will be on the increase this afternoon. Rain is expected to develop over the area tonight and continue through Wednesday with 1 to 2 inches expected across our area south of Interstate 70 (2 to 4 inches are expected further south over southern Missouri). This will aggravate already ongoing flooding and may lead to additional flooding along area rivers, creeks, and streams. A flood warning is already in place across much of central Missouri and will remain in effect until flooding subsides. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: Increasing clouds, with a high near 68. West northwest wind 6 to 13 mph.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 58. East wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Northeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north northwest after midnight.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. North wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 46.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 67.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 46.

The man suspected in the theft of a vehicle, a high speed chase, and a crash on St. Joseph Ave. early Sunday morning has been charged with stealing and resisting arrest. The victim told police that the suspect, “…later identified as Bryson Anthony McCray, punched him in the face and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him while ordering all occupants to exit the vehicle.”

According to the affidavit “…the vehicle was located and pursued at high speeds by Atchison, Kansas Police, Buchanan County Sheriff Department and St. Joseph Police prior to crashing at St. Joseph Ave. and Highland Ave. in St. Joseph.”
