Total ice accumulations will generally remain below 1/4″, with slightly higher amounts possible over northwest Missouri. Accumulating ice is expected to continue through the afternoon, before freezing rain transitions to rain for areas south of Highway 36. Freezing rain will continue for areas north of Highway 36 until early Monday morning. Hazardous road conditions are expected during this time, though power outages should remain isolated.

As surface temperatures increase Sunday afternoon, freezing rain will transition to rain from south to north. Areas north of Highway 36 may not reach above freezing temperatures until Monday morning, which would lead to increased ice accumulations. Ice accumulations will generally remain between 1/4″ to 1/2″ for most areas.

iceThe National Weather Service has decreased icing expectation totals for the area but said significant icing remains possible through Sunday.

Freezing rain/drizzle will begin to overtake much of the local area beginning this morning from south to north, with increasing chances expected during the afternoon and evening hours. Hazardous roadways may form during the midafternoon to early evening hours Friday. The best icing potential remains during the Saturday night into Sunday morning time period. While total ice accumulations have trended downward, hazardous travel conditions remain possible, along with isolated power outages.

The potential exists for significant icing across the area, which will make travel extremely hazardous. Additionally, ice accumulations may lead to downed tree limbs and power outages. Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, before a strong cold front moves over the region on Thursday. This will set the stage for developing wintry weather by Friday night as freezing rain overspreads the region, and then continues through at least early Sunday.
