Laura Marie (Krumme) Millsap, 38, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013.

Laura was born October 26, 1974 to Rodney & Phyllis Krumme of Faucett, Missouri.

She was a graduate of Missouri Western State University. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. She taught school at New York Elementary near Hamilton, Missouri in 1999 to 2001.

She married Shawn R. Millsap on August 12, 1995. In 2003 she suffered a hemorrhage that left her a quadriplegic. She bravely managed her home and raised her children, Brooklyn, 17, and Rylan, 14 from a hospital bed in her home. Laura was an inspiration to all who knew her. She rarely ever complained and lived out her faith daily.

Laura was a member of Sparta United Methodist Church, where she developed and led the Children’s Church Program, before she became paralyzed. She loved children, holidays, especially Christmas, church and flowers.

Laura was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Lewis Testerman, and her paternal grandparents, Tom & Carolyn Krumme.

Survivors: parents, husband, children, her maternal grandmother, Virginia Testerman, sisters, Becky (Billy) Hafley, Shelly (Jim) Wolfram, Merri (David) Wolfram, and Dawn (Matt) Smith, mother and father-in-law, Dennis and Karen Steeby, brother-in-law, Cody (Rachael) Millsap, sister-in-law, Rachael Millsap, 20 nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services 11:00 AM Saturday at Sparta United Methodist Church.

Interment Sparta Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 Noon Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday.

Skylar Brianna Coots

She was born February 22, 2005 in Bolckow, MO, daughter of Heather Surritt and James Coots Jr. She was a 3rd grade student at the North Andrew School. Skylar was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Sharon Tollard. Survivors include, her parents, of the home, paternal grandfather, James Coots Sr., maternal grandparents, Steve & Anna Surritt of Atchison, KS, three brothers, Travis Coots, Troy Coots, and Spencer Coots, and three sisters; Jessica Coots, Jennifer Coots, and Serena Coots.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am, on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home, friends may call from 11-5 PM Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. William B. Armbruster, 59, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

He was born October 10, 1953 to Donald and Margaret (Blough) Armbruster.

William married Lisa Logan on July 4, 1986. She survives of the home.

He spent three years in the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa from 1977-1980, where he taught physics in French to African students. He then worked for USIA (US Information Agency) from 1986-1999. He had a variety of different jobs while working as a Foreign Service Officer for the United States Department of State from 1999-2008 until retirement. While he was with the State Department he earned a Superior Honor award for meritorious conduct during Desert Storm and multiple Meritorious Service Awards.

His family lived in several places while he worked for the State Department: Algiers, Algeria; Tunis, Tunisia; London, England; Casablanca, Morocco; Washington, DC, where he was an Earth Day escort for Hollywood actress Bo Derek; and Kuwait City, Kuwait and Baghdad, Iraq, where he spent five months as a detainee of Saddam Hussein when his daughter, Jadis, was eight months old.

He spoke at the Runcie Club and was a featured speaker at Missouri Western State University Eggs and Issues on “The Middle East-Then and Now”. He was a board member of the St. Joseph Museums and on the board of directors at St. Joseph Symphony and President of the Friends of the St. Joseph Symphony.

William enjoyed gardening and helped with the landscaping and restoration at the Wyeth Tootle Mansion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Additional Survivors: daughter, Jadis Armbruster, New York City, New York; son, Thane Armbruster, Rochester, New York, who were his pride and joy; brother, Donald Carl Armbruster, Jr. (Ann), Orange County, California; sister, Teri A Hansen (Steve Wilberding), Sarasota, Florida; and niece, Crystal L. Hansen, St. Petersburg, Florida.

Doris V. Miller, 95, formerly of rural Barnard/Graham passed away August 27, 2013 at Living Community of St. Joseph. She was born February 12, 1918 in Kirksville, Missouri to Arnie and Ida May Hagans. A graduate of Northeast Missouri State at Kirksville, she married Floyd K Miller June 11, 1943.

Doris taught in Oklahoma and Missouri schools, retiring from Nodaway Holt.

She retired after 30+ years to pursue her interests in art and genealogy.

She had many hobbies that included flower arranging, gardening, rock ‘hounding’, jewelry making and traveling with Floyd.

She is preceded in death by parents and one sister, Edna May Hagans.

Survivors include; husband Floyd of the Living Community of St. Joseph, children Mary V Fisher of Hot Springs Village, AR and Jim Miller of Carlsbad, CA, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Bethany Christian Church, County Road 390, Barnard, Missouri. Visitation will be 10-11 AM, one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Bethany Church Cemetery.

Jerry L. Walker, 68, Barnard, Missouri died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 8, 1944 to Lester and Erma (Hogan) Walker in Union Township, Calhoun County, Iowa.

He married Sharon Kerns on April 29, 1963. She survives of the home.

Jerry loved to bake and make homemade noodles and being with his family. He also loved camping, fishing and coon hunting.

He enjoyed doing leather work and liked to dance and sing.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorie Lynn Walker; parents; and sister, Verna Joyce Judah.

Retha was born July 12, 1916, in Parnell, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Nina (Henson) Rickabaugh. Retha attended Parnell High School.

She married Harlan Pride on August 10, 1938, in Maryville, Missouri.

Retha was a member of the First Christian Church and the Herron Club of Maryville. She was a homemaker and a cafeteria cook 18 years for the Maryville School District.

Preceding her in death were her husband: Harlan (August 21, 1978); a son: Richard (April 14, 2011) ; her parents; brother Rex Rickabaugh, sister in law Dorothy Rickabaugh, and brother in law Dean Godsey.

Kenneth Frederick Still, 83, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Conception Junction, Missouri, died Monday, August 26, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Kenneth was born Monday, October 14, 1929, in Maryville, Missouri to Charles Irvin and Helena Johanna “Lena” From Still.

A 1947 graduate of Maryville High School he attended University of Missouri and Northwest Missouri State University. Kenny retired from the maintenance department at Northwest Missouri State University.

He married Emma “Jeannie” Williams December 23, 1968, in Maryville, Missouri.

Kenny served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Kenneth was a member of the Seth Ray David VFW Post #442, Maryville, and the Tri-C American Legion Post #464, Conception Junction, Missouri.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Jeannie (October 18, 2006), sister Anna May Adams, and brothers Jay, Marion, Eugene, Leonard, Sam, and Bobby Still.

Survivors include stepdaughters Sharon Hollars, Los Lunas, New Mexico and Patricia Puck, Davenport, Iowa, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 6-7:00 PM Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Norma L. Bravo

Norma L. Bravo 88, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Saint Joseph, MO health care center.

She was born January 14, 1925 in Clyde, MO, daughter of Edith and Clarence “Duck” Beaty. She graduated from the Stanberry high school in 1943 then in 1944 entered the Cadet Nurse Corp at the St. Joseph “Sisters” Hospital graduating in 1947 as a Registered Nurse. She stayed active in nursing until December of 1979.

Norma was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 6760.

Norma was preceded in death by husband, Jose Bravo, her parents, daughter, Martina Marie Bravo, two grandchildren, Brynne Bravo and Jeffery Richey, a sister, Marjorie Beaty-Hayes.

Survivors include four sons, Steven J. Bravo and wife Karen, Leo Bravo and wife Amelia, William “Bill” Bravo and wife Debi, Charles “Chuck” Bravo and wife Terri, two daughters; Vicki Blanchard and husband Danny, and Lou Anne Higdon and husband Galen all of St. Joseph, MO, eighteen, grandchildren, thirty, great grandchildren, one, great great grandchild, a brother, William “Bill” Beaty of Ottowa, KS, as well as several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 10:00 am at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Father Christian Malewski Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm, Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.

She loved to help others. She also enjoyed joking around and her smile was contagious.

Gayle S. Rogers, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013.

Gayle was born on May 22, 1920 to George and Susie Stallsworth in St. Joseph. Gayle married Paul J. Rogers, May 7, 1942. They were married for 60 years. Paul preceded her in death in 2002.

She worked for the Douglas Candy Co. and the St. Joseph School system in the cafeteria. She was a life long member of Savannah Avenue Baptist Church.

Gayle loved cooking, loved her church and loved being with her family and friends.

Survivors: one son, Jack and wife, Judy; grandchildren, Angie (Tim) Wilson, great-grandson, Hunter Wilson, Jennifer (Craig) Stanek; great-granddaughter, Sara, Brooke and (Colby Muff), and Jeff Rogers, Ryan Havener and Chris Havener; 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-greatgranddaughter.

Services 10:00 AM Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Amazonia, Missouri.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 Noon Wednesday at our chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8::00 PM Wednesday Evening.
