Mildred Jean Lain, 89, Savannah, Missouri died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born December 25, 1923 to David C. and Lula B. (Cunningham) Stuard in Ranger, Texas. Mildred lived most of her life in Artesia, New Mexico. She married Raymond C. Lain November 10, 1941. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2009. After raising her children she worked as a cashier supervisor at K-Mart for ten years. Mrs. Lain was a Baptist who loved God and her family greatly. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers; and two sisters. Survivors: three children, Janice Albright (Jimmy), St. Joseph, Raymond C. Lain (Marisela), Carlsbad, New Mexico and Dan L. Lain (Jennifer), Franklin, Tennessee; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born March 29, 1938 to Clyde and Viola (Grooms) Moran.
She married Walter Dale Gay on June 12, 1971 and made their home in St. Joseph, Missouri for 39 years until Walter passed January 6, 2010.
Lois was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed crocheting, doll making, and candy making, for which she was known as the “Peanut Brittle Lady.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gary Best; brothers, Earl Moran and Eric Moran; sisters, Jeanette Moran and Patricia Ramsey; and grandchildren, Stacy Gray and Jeremy Best.

John “Jack” H. Robinson III, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, May 17, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 20, 1936 to John H. II and Erma L. (Stanton) Robinson in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He married Charlotte Joan Weitlich June 12, 1960. She survives of the home.
Mr. Robinson served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
John was a graduate of Lafayette High School class of 1954. He worked as an electrician for 38 years retiring in 1998.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he was a choir member, I.B.E.W. Local 545, American Legion Post 359 and Riverbend Promenaders.
John enjoyed square dancing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Henry Weiss.
Survivors: wife, Charlotte Robinson; one daughter, Diane Hunt (Michael), Topeka, Kansas; two sons, Steven Robinson (Lorianne) and Bryan Robinson (Traci) both of St. Joseph; brother, Bill Robinson (Marilyn), St. Joseph; sister, JoAnn Alexander, St. Joseph; grandchildren, Joel, Andrew, Aaron, Sara, Matthias (Jessica), Billy and Emily; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul Robert West, 55, died on May 17, 2013 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith C. West, and his Grandparents, Paul and Rosamond (Pierce) West and Robert B. and Margaret J. (Dodd) Chesney.
Paul was born May 7, 1958 in Lawrence, Kansas and spent most of his school years in the St. Joseph area, graduating from Central High School and Missouri Western State College with a degree in Economics. He later moved to Topeka, Kansas where he received a Doctor of Law degree (J.D.) from Washburn University. After being admitted to the Kansas Bar he spent most of his working years as a Fiscal Analyst for the Kansas Legislature. As a non-partisan employee he assisted the legislature in arriving at a balanced budget and reflecting the same in legislation.
Paul is survived by his father, William E. (Ed) West; daughters Alessandra Chesney West, Topeka, Kansas and Elaine Diane West, Boulder, Colorado; sisters Julia O’Dell (Steven), Lansing, Kansas, and Susan Noland (Doug), Kansas City, Missouri; nieces Sarah Haught, Amanda O’Dell, and Katherine O’Dell; and nephews Joseph Berrigan and Robert Noland.

home in Elmo.

Marjorie was born February 07, 1935, in College Springs, Iowa to Eurode O.
and Marjorie Elizabeth (Dow) Livengood.

A graduate of Elmo High School, Class of 1954. She was self-employed as a
wall paper hanger. Marjorie also had worked as a Library Aide for
Nodaway-Holt School and as a cook for the Nodaway County Sheriff’s
Department.

She married Zealand “Zeke” Pryor Smith on December 4, 1955 in Elmo.

Marjorie was a member of the Elmo Christian Church, the Elmo Betterment
Club and a former member of the Nodaway County Rescue (Elmo).

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, husband Zeke (2006), daughter
Anita Jo Hutchison (2008), two brothers Lynn “Curley” and Dale Livengood.

Survivors include: daughters Melinda (Jim) Thompson, Elmo, Connie (Tim)
Randall, Skidmore, Missouri, son-in-law Steve Hutchison, Marla (Ted) Finney,

Catherine married Lawrence J. Rice on September 29, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1995. Mrs. Rice was a member of King Hill Baptist Church where she taught the primary choir and sang in the adult choir. She later was a member of Patee Park Baptist Church where she worked in the food pantry, played in the kitchen band, and sang in the choir. She currently was a member of First Baptist Church. She taught herself to play guitar and later gave lessons. She also enjoyed singing for the Lord. The most cherished things in her life were the Lord, her family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and great-grandson, Derek Underwood. He married Lila Gardner Plummer on  April 11, 1964, in Climbing Hill, Iowa.

He served his country in the US Army in 1958-1961.

She married Richard Lee Wilmes on February 7, 1975, in Conception Junction, Missouri.

Martha was a member of the St. Gregory Catholic Church and St. Gregory Guild.

Preceding Martha in death were her parents and sister Carolyn Freeman.

Dorothy married Rupert “Pat” Patterson on January 27, 1962 in Las Vegas and had been married for 52 years.
Mrs. Patterson was a seamstress at Nelly Don for 20 years until they closed in 1972. She was a Christian and a member of Gower Baptist Church and later Bible Baptist Temple, St. Joseph, Missouri.
She loved to sew, crochet, crewel, and do all kinds of handwork until her sight failed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Leo Ottinger.
Survivors: husband; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Verlin was born December 15, 1923, in Graham, Missouri to Virgil and Vesta Rogers Vulgamott.

A 1941 graduate of Maryville High School, Verlin was a farmer.

He married Dorothy Porter Vulgamott on February 28, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri.

Verlin was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Missouri.

Preceding Verlin in death were his parents, brother Carrol Vulgamott, and nephew James Carroll Vulgamott.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Evelyn Vulgamott of their home, sons Russell (Janice) Vulgamott, White House, TX, Richard (Anita) Vulgamott, Spirit Lake, IA, Roger (Susan) Vulgamott, Topeka, KS, and daughter Kay (Surinder) Sahia, Cypress, Texas, ten grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

May 11, 2013 at her home.

She was born April 27, 1935 in Atchison County, Missouri the daughter of the late Terry and Veda (Helums) Robinson.

Florence was a 1953 graduate of Burlington Junction High School and lived her entire life in Iowa and Missouri. She was a homemaker and retired LPN having worked at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

On September 23, 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald G. Major at Rockport, Missouri, who survives her of the home. Florence is also survived by son Terry Don (Deborah) Major, Texarkana, Arkansas, daughter Sandra (Lee) Rohlmeier, Burlington Junction, son Randy (Traci) Major, Savannah, Missouri, one sister, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held May 14, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home in Maryville, where friends may call after 1 PM on Monday. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont, Missouri.

Mary Lea Gallagher, 84, Maitland, Missouri died Friday, May 10, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born August 16, 1928 in Bigelow, Missouri to William and Selma Smith, the thirteenth of fifteen children.
Mary Lea was baptized at the First Christian Church in Mound City. She graduated from Mound City High School in 1947 and St. Joseph Beauty University in 1948. She worked as a beautician for Dorothy’s Beauty Shop in Mound City and later at Dolly Madison in Kansas City.
On September 22, 1955, she married Eldon Gallagher in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 2000. They lived in Maitland prior to moving to their farm west of town. Mary Lea was a hard working farm wife and mother who proudly raised three sons. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, making quilts, and scrapbooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Erma Hinkle, Ruby Shunkwiler, Mildred Diggs, Dorothy Moss, Miriam Noland, and Wilma Shockley; brothers, Joe D. Eldon, Wayne Herschel, William and Raymond Smith; and an infant grandchild.
Survivors: sons, Scott Gallagher (Linda), Maitland, Missouri, William Gallagher (Vera), Skidmore, Missouri, and James Gallagher (Michelle), Maitland, Missouri; grandsons, Chris and Dylan Gallagher, Frank Webb (Anita), and Tony Lawrence; granddaughters, Jennifer Bucy (Mike), Corissa Gallagher, Darcie Gallagher, Kaycee Crawford, Daphne Chambers (Rowdy), and Ashley Lawrence; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Scarbrough and Helen Derr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest Pazar, 83, New Hampton, Missouri died Friday, May 10, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 6, 1929 to William and Beatrice Pazar in Carderep, New Jersey.
Ernest married Mary Lou (Goin). She preceded him in death on August 3, 2007. They were married for over fifty years.
He graduated from Barber School in Kansas City, Missouri, and later owned a barbershop in Osborn, Missouri. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was a veteran of the Korean War.
Ernest was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church and was a fascinating person who enjoyed traveling the world with his wife.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and eight siblings. Survivors: son, Geraldo Pazar (fiancé Kimberly), Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Richard Pazar (Linda), St. Joseph, Missouri; sisters, Yolanda Sharrick, Old Bridge, New Jersey, and Marcella McCashland, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard L. Dixon, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at his home.
He was born September 3, 1928 to Grant and Agnes Dixon in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Richard married Phyllis Chappell on September 7, 1946. She survives of the home.
He was self-employed as an Interior Decorator/Painter. A highlight of Richard’s career was traveling to Washington, D.C. and doing interior decorating for an ambassador of the United States.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council, Legion of Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Club and volunteered at the Food Pantry.
Richard enjoyed mushroom hunting and loved family parties.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky Dixon; brother, Paul Dixon; and sister, Mildred Johnson.
Survivors: daughters, Alana Nash (Pat), St. Peters, Missouri, and Lori Seiter (Doug); sons, Mike Dixon (Barbara), David Dixon, all of St. Joseph, and Tim Dixon (Terri), Kansas City; daughter-in-law, RoseMary; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Hayter. .

Mary Marceline Allen
1923-2013

Mary Marceline Allen passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Cameron, Missouri.
She was born May 30, 1923 and as a young woman, worked at Jersey Cereal and Swift and Company. Mary served in the Army in World War II and on her second tour of duty, was stationed in Japan. She was at one time stationed at Rosecrans Air Field and transported wounded amputee servicemen arriving from the war zone to area hospitals. Following her military service, she was employed as a laboratory technician at the former Missouri Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph, until retirement in 1985.
Mary was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee A. Allen and Agnes (Joyner) Allen; and all of her siblings: Harry Allen, Lilly Young, Clara Bowman, May Kearn, Elizabeth Allen and Dolores Wells.
Survivors: nieces, Dolores Wells, Annandale, Virginia, and Charlene Poppinga, Sedalia, Missouri; nephews, Robert Wells (Debbie), St. Joseph, Missouri, and Richard Wells (Sue), St. Joseph, Missouri; great-niece, Carissa Crabb (Jason), St. Joseph, Missouri; and great nephew, Brandon Wells, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born March 25, 1938 to Jack and Gertrude Richie in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Robert married Mary Baker on October 11. She survives of the home.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Boy Scouts Leader for thirteen years, youth baseball coach, and union President while working at the State Hospital.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Alexander, and infant daughter Robin Dale Richie.
Survivors: wife; sons, Peter (Susie), Smithville, Missouri, Nicholas, Chandler and Brooklyn; Patrick (Melissa), St. Joseph, Missouri: Hunter, Camden, and Heaven; Mark (Cari), St. Joseph, Missouri: Alec, Madison; great-grandson, Drake; James (Kim), Carrolton, Texas: Caden; daughter, Angela Garr (Nelson), Rideway, Missouri: John, Heather, and Rachel; brother, Roy Richie (Shirley) Dearborn, Missouri; sisters, Darlene Smith, Kansas City, Missouri, Betty Thomas, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Karen Welch (Bud), Golden, Missouri; brother, Jack Richie (Linda), St. Joseph, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathleen A. Woods, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her home. She was born February 11, 1941 to Neal Brady and Helen Cecelia (Sutton) Hevel. Kathleen married George Connie Woods on August 25, 1966. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1991. She graduated in 1960 from Central High School in South Bend, Indiana and attended Dear Park Grace United Methodist Church. Mrs. Woods was a homemaker and enjoyed arts, crafts, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Robert and Bernard Hevel; and sister, Colleen Culp. Survivors: daughters, Dianna Woods and Denise Simpson (Tom); sister, Maureen Hevel; and three grandchildren, Ledger, Lawsen, and Berkeley Simpson. Services: 10:00 A.M.
