Charles W. Bunse, 90, Cosby, Missouri died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at a local healthcare facility.
He was born July 27, 1922 to Julius Charles and Minnie (Jann) Bunse in Cosby, Missouri.
Charles married Norma E. Reynolds on March 22, 1963. She preceded him in death on October 14, 2003.
Mr. Bunse served in the United States Army and was a veteran of WWII. He was also a farmer and a member of the American Legion Post #359.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Loris Bunse; and brother, John Bunse.
Survivors: son, Roger Bunse (Martha), Cosby, Missouri; daughter, Rita Riley (Steve), Lawrence, Kansas; grandchildren, Zachary, Samuel, and Jerry Bunse and Simon Riley; sister, Minnie Haenni (Jack); brother, Wilbur Bunse (Barbara); eight nieces and nephews; three step-sons, Fred (Janet), Ed (Kathy), and Ted (Kim) Campbell; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Helen Lucille Pettlon, 91, Maryville, Missouri died on Sunday, February 24,
2013 at her home.

Helen was born October 3, 1921in Filley, Nebraska. Her Parents were Basil Henry “Bill” and Zelma (Robey) Auffert.

She was a graduate of Conception High School, Conception, Missouri.

Helen was united in marriage to Norman Andrew Pettlon,Sr. on April 22, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2002.

Others preceding her in death were her parents, and two brothers F.E “Bud” and Ervin Auffert.

Helen loved playing bridge and was an avid golfer both at the Country Clubs in Maryville and Bedford. Helen was of the Catholic Faith.

Her survivors include five sons, Norman (Dina) Pettlon, Jr., Flower Mound, Texas, Stephen and Richard (Geri) Pettlon, both of Gladstone, Missouri, Kenneth (Barbara) and Fred Pettlon, both of Maryville, Missouri; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Pettlon’s body has been cremated and a private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis Hospice, Maryville.

She was born March 29, 1946 to Frank and Helen Wilfong in St. Joseph, Missouri. Shirley married Larry DeWayne Fanning on April 19, 1963 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2010. She enjoyed being on a bowling league with her friends from Snow White Restaurant, where she was a cook. Mrs. Fanning was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; son, Larry D. Fanning; grandson, Darryl A. Kelley, Jr; brothers, Henry Smith (Joyce), Wilbur Smith, Frank Wilfong, Jr. (Velma); sisters, Betty Wilfong and Maxine Ewing. Bernice V. Leuck, 96, Kansas City, Missouri died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Born in Fowler, Indiana, on December 15, 1916, to Roy and Alice (Deno) Vetter, she lived most of her life in Indiana until moving to Kansas City in 2002. Bernice worked for Indiana Bell from 1935 through Word War II. She was married to Clifford Leuck on November 18, 1942, and returned to work for Bell/General Telephone in 1960 and retired in 1981. She continued to be active with the Telephone Pioneers after her retirement. She will be remembered as hard-working, with a passion for gardening and tending to her roses. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Kansas City. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband; and two daughters, Kathleen Muller and Cheryl Scherer. Survivors include a son; David Leuck, Pinehurst, North Carolina; daughter, Elaine Laun, Kansas City, Missouri; sister; Elmorita Besse, Fowler, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Richard Edward Evans, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri passed from this life at his home, surrounded by his loving family February 19, 2013. Richard was born December 26, 1929 at Tipton, Kansas to Robert C. and Clara A. (Simeon) Evans.
He retired from Wire Rope Corporation in 1995 after thirty years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of King Hill Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon.
In addition to his family, Richard loved looking at, working on and talking about old cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Julius and Robert; and sisters, Carol, Ruth and Jean.
Richard is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Grace; daughter, Linda Robbins (Roger); sons, Rick (Peggy), Roger (Jayme); all of St. Joseph, Missouri. He is also survived by a brother, Larry, Green Valley, Illinois; a sister, Stella Vertin, St. Joseph, Missouri; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dennis E. Sipes, 59, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at his home.
He was born January 11, 1954 to Marcell and Louise Sipes in Fairfax, Missouri.
Dennis married Janice L. Davis on February 16, 1973. She survives of the home.
He was a former member of the San Antonio Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Sipes was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Lannie Sipes; and two granddaughters, Olivia and Jacklyn Sipes.

Walden, Lenna webLenna Mae Walden, age 72, Maryville, Missouri, passed away on February 22, 2013 at Golden Living. She was born August 7, 1940 in Wayne County, Kentucky to Charles Jennings and Ollie( Tucker) Flynn.

Lenna was united in marriage to James Albert Cummins and one child was blessed of this marriage. After the death of James Cummins she was united in marriage to Everett Ray Walden, Sr., March 3, 1964 in Tennessee and two children were blessed of this marriage. She was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. Lenna was the office manager for the Director of Missions In Northwest Missouri for several years. Lenna and Everett were former owners of the Cardinal Inn and owned and managed several properties in the Maryville area.

Lenna was preceded in death by her parents Charles Jennings and Ollie (Tucker) Flynn in Somerset Kentucky, first husband James Cummins and second husband Everett Ray Walden, Sr., brothers Frank Flynn, Estel Flynn, James Flynn, John Flynn, Arvel Flynn and Chester Flynn, sisters Zada Shadoan, Ida Hollars, Pauline Flynn, Anna Lee Flynn and Hattie Colyer and daughter Lisa Mae Walden of Kansas City, Missouri.

Survivors include brother Bobbie Flynn, Kentucky, son Douglas Cummins and wife Theresa of Maryville, Missouri and Everett Ray Walden, Jr. and wife Cindy of Salem, Missouri, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-6 PM, Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, February 26. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.

Glenn F. Bower, 87, Hemple, Missouri died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born August 1, 1925, to Frank D. and Minnie (Long) Bower.
Glenn married Doris Lorraine Sill on December 29, 1945.
Mr. Bower was owner of Bower Construction for more than 50 years.
He was baptized at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bower was a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge #37, A.F. & A.M.; Stewartsville Chapter #175, Order of the Eastern Star; Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Moila Shrine and past director of The Wrecking Crew; and Y-Fry Class 39. He was a former board member of The Kerns-Freeman Cemetery Association and a former 4-H project leader.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dena Bower Bachman; parents; and five siblings, Georgia Elder, Beulah Lenke, Margia Hector, Dale Bower, and Elva Ann Randol.

Anna Caroline (Keck) Tonnies, 89,of Maryville, Missouri died February 19, 2013, at Parkdale Manor.
1924 ~ 2013

Anna Caroline, who was known to her family and friends as Tolly, was born March 21, 1924 in Noel, Missouri to Charles Marian and Mable May (Marshall) Keck. She graduated from high school in 1941 in Pittsburg, Kansas and attended business school in Joplin, Missouri, where she met her future husband. Tolly and Robert Henderson Tonnies were married February 14, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri.

After WW II, Henderson went into business with Frank Culp in Skidmore, Missouri. The family moved to Maryville in 1945 and soon joined the First Baptist Church. Tolly was very active in her church. She served as a Sunday school a Bible school teacher and a member of the adult Sunday school group. She was the church treasurer for a number of years and acted in that capacity for the Laura Street Baptist Church when it was established. She was member of Eastern Star, The Mutual Improvement Circle, Soroptomists and was a Cub Scout leader.

Tolly worked as a bookkeeper for Culp Construction, J.C. Penney, Sears, Rush Printing and also worked as a Secretary for the Missouri National Guard.

She is survived by three children, Robert Henderson (Dana) Tonnies Jr., Charles Marshall (Nora) Tonnies and Anna Carolyn Tonnies; four grandchildren, Eric Henderson (Renee) Tonnies, Andrew Marshall and Ian David Tonnies and Jessica Lea (Josh Neff) Tonnies; three step grandchildren, Dwayne Joseph (Shally) Luzum, Dale John (Tamra) Luzum and Amanda Joy (Shawn) Barney; four great grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, parents, brother, Charles Leslie Keck, sister Mary Ester Ahrens, a grandson Mac Garrett Tonnies and a nephew Daniel Tilden Ahrens.

Dr. James “Dennis” Coates PhD, 64, Lake Worth FL, Dean of the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University passed away on February 8, 2013. He was born January 5, 1949 in Mound City MO. A 1967 graduate of Holt County RII High School in Mound City, MO, Dennis also graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville MO in 1971. He owned & operated the school transportation service in Savannah, South Holt & Avenue City and was regional director for Carpenter School Coaches before entering the doctoral program at LSU in 1982. Dennis was named the outstanding graduate instructor for LSU’s college of business in 1986. Also in 1986, he was named the outstanding graduate student for the state of Louisiana. He was a two time recipient of the Lloyd Morrison Award for excellence in Education. He received his PhD 1989. Coates joined the College of Business as an assistant professor and rose through the ranks, eventually being named senior associate dean in 1996. He accepted the position as Dean for the College of Business in 2006. Under Dean Coates’ dedicated leadership, the College of Business underwent substantial development, being named one of the “Best Business Schools” by The Princeton Review for three years in a row, as well as one of America’s “Top 50 Business Schools for Entrepreneurs” by Success magazine. Dennis has not only had significant accomplishments in his professional life, but has touched the lives of many of the people he has met along the way with his giving & friendly nature. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Coates and Jessie I (Hall) Coates, one brother, Robert Dean Coates, one sister, Martha Jane (Coates) Steeby, a niece, Denise Coates. A great niece and a great nephew. Dennis is survived by two brothers, E. Jerome Coates (Garen), Norway, MI and Thomas C. Margaret Ann (Ambrozi) Ozenberger, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 18, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was born December 2, 1926 to Martin and Maude (Vukononski) Ambrozi in St. Joseph, Missouri. She married and later divorced Karl Ozenberger and to that union Karl, Amy, Heidi, Gina and Glory were born. Margaret was alumnae of the Convent of the Sacred Heart. She worked at the YWCA with the Battered Women’s Shelter, Saxton Nursing Home, and Tiffany Square. Margaret enjoyed yard work and sewing. In her younger years, she also enjoyed working with her dad at his grocery store. She loved her family more than anything and cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She had the biggest heart and would do anything for anybody if they needed a hand. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Martin Ambrozi. Survivors: children, Karl Ozenberger, Nashville, Missouri, Amy Vohl (Karl), St. Joseph, Heidi Francis (Rodney), St. Joseph, Gina Cummings (Craig), Kansas City, Missouri and Glory Kirkpatrick (Gary), St. Joseph; grandchildren, Halstin and Caden Cummings, Katie Francis and Alexis Kirkpatrick; sisters, Freda Birmingham and Mary Alice Lackey; and many nieces and nephews. Gene E. Moore, 59, Mound City, Missouri died unexpectedly Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home. He was born July 21, 1953, to Robert H. and Dorothy Jean (Burnett) Moore. Gene was raised on a farm between Mound City and Maitland, Missouri. Upon graduating from Mound City High School in 1971, Gene joined the Air National Guard and served for six years. He married Jeanne L. Nash in 1975. Gene was a lifelong family farmer and rejoined the Air National Guard in 1985 with the Civil Engineers. In 2000, he transferred to the 241st Air Traffic Controllers. Gene retired from the Holt County Road and Bridge Crew in 2009 and from the Air National Guard in 2011. Gene was a Christian and honored his family, friends, and country. He was a member of the Paul P. Shutts American Legion Post 121, Oregon Masonic Lodge, and Scottish Rite. Gene was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert “Hank” and Irene (Stinson) Moore, Dwight and Leta (Mann) Burnett; his parents, Robert H. and Dorothy J. Charles “Buddy” Partridge, Jr.
Lorraine was a graduate of Horace Mann High School and was an independant
sales representative for Avon Products.   Her memberships included Calvary
Chapel Church and the Eagles Lodge Auxillary both of Maryville.
Surviving are daughters, Kodi (Jamie) Wymore, Hopkins, Missouri, Tonei (Juan
Hernandez) Holbrook, Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Julia Partridge,
Maryville; sister-in-laws, Ginnia, JoAnn, and Sue Partridge; three aunts,
Mary Louise Byergo, Mary Sturm, and Beverly Mayes; grandchildren Whitney and
Antonio Holbrook, Halee, Jordan and Chaselynn Wymore, and Stacey Kenter;
several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 -11:30 AM on Saturday, February
23, 2013, at Eagle’s Lodge in Maryville, where a luncheon will follow the
services.
Mrs. Holbrook’s body has been cremated.  Interment will be at a later date
in Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

Willis W. Gilmore, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, February 15, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. He was born October 11, 1925 to Charles and Mary Gilmore in Kansas City, Missouri. Willis married Violet E. Clark on January 19, 1946 in Atchison, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2011. He was a baker and worked for Wonderbread for forty years. He was a member of Faith United Church for over thirty years, served on various boards through the church, and was an Adult Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; great-granddaughter, Abigail Schmidt; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors: daughters, Anna Schmidt (Mike), Amazonia, Missouri, Ruth Sharp (Scotty), Dekalb, Missouri; sons, Donald Gilmore (Dorothea), Louisville, Kentucky, Rev. John Gilmore (Peggy), Johnston, Iowa; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brother, Chester Gilmore (Rae Ann), St. Joseph, Missouri; and a sister, Mary Ann Hollingsworth, St. Joseph, Missouri. Hazel Irma (Machen) Cyphert-Wilson 1919-2013 	Hazel I. (Machen) Cyphert-Wilson, 93, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from natural causes. 	She was born November 11, 1919. Hazel spent most of her life In Pennsylvania, and her final years in St. Joseph, Missouri. 	Preceded in death by her sons; James Cyphert, John Cyphert; son-in-law, John Common; brother, James Machen; and sisters, Alice Kazusko, Myrtle Large. 	Survivors: sons, Humphrey, Milton (Ed) Cyphert; daughters, Judith Kymer-Way, Rita Unger-Common; daughter-in-law, Della Cyphert; several grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. She later married Robert “Bob” Butcher on August 13, 1973. 	Mrs. Butcher was a bookkeeper at Midwest Scrap and an EA at H&R Block. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, boating, reading, shopping, sewing, quilting, genealogy, and planning family reunions. 	She was also preceded in death by her parents.
