Former Jayhawk Murray signs with Phillies organization

The Philadelphia Phillies announced Monday that they have come to terms with former Kansas pitcher Colton Murray on a minor league contract after selecting the junior right-hander in the 13th round of this season’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Murray has been assigned to the Phillies’ Short-Season Class A affiliate – the Williamsport (Pa.) Crosscutters.

Williamsport opened its season in the New York-Penn League this past weekend and will play a three-game series against Jamestown beginning this evening.

“Our entire coaching staff is thrilled that Colton gets the opportunity to chase his dream of playing professional baseball,” Kansas head coach Ritch Price said. “We’ve had success in the past with other former players in the Phillies’ organization. Colton is a young man who has the talent to play this game for a long time.”

Murray is the third former Jayhawk to play in the Phillies’ organization since 2004, joining pitcher Mike Zagurski (2004) and outfielder Gus Milner (2006).

A junior right-handed pitcher from Overland Park, Kan., Murray went 3-4 for the Jayhawks in 2011 with seven saves and a 3.79 ERA in 20 appearances. The junior allowed just 15 walks to go with 33 strikeouts. In his first outing of the season, Murray tossed seven innings of relief against No. 1 TCU to earn the win as well as a “Primetime Performer” honor by CollegeBaseball360.com.

In his three-year career at Kansas, Murray appeared in 80 games and posted a 6-9 record with 11 saves and a 3.89 ERA. He recorded 108 strikeouts in 111 innings on the hill.

Murray is the second former Jayhawk to sign with a professional organization this summer, joining right-handed pitcher T.J. Walz, who signed with the Oakland Athletics last week.

Jayhawks add junior college transfer Kevin Young

KU Sports Information

Kansas coach Bill Self announced Friday that forward Kevin Young has joined the KU men’s basketball team. Young, who is eligible immediately, will be a junior at Kansas for the 2011-12 season.

“I thought we definitely needed a playmaker and we were able, at a late date, to fall into Kevin and we couldn’t be happier,” Self said. “He’s 6-8, thin and can play multiple positions. He reminds me a lot of Julian Wright – very bouncy, very athletic. He will most definitely be an impact player for us next season.”

Young, 6-8, 215, was a two-year letterwinner at Loyola Marymount University in 2008-09 and 2009-10 starting 62 of 65 games played for the Lions. The Perris, Calif., native averaged 9.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for LMU his freshman season and broke the school’s freshman records with 224 rebounds, 51 steals and 34 blocked shots. Included was a LMU freshman single-game record with 19 rebounds against New Mexico State.

Young averaged 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds his sophomore year at LMU. He recorded six double-doubles in his two seasons as a Lion. Young sat out as a player last year focusing completely on academics and completed his associate’s degree at San Bernardino Community College. Also during that time he was a volunteer assistant coach at Barstow Community College.

“Kevin played two years at Loyola Marymount, then transferred to a junior college last year to get his academics in order,” Self said. “He graduated from junior college and has two years left to play. We’re really happy. I know he wants to be here. It’s amazing how recruiting works. You work so hard for some guys and don’t get them and sometimes great opportunities just happen to come your way and this is certainly a great opportunity for us.”

“This is a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to playing at Kansas,” Young said. “They take a lot of pride in basketball and academics here and I’m ready for that challenge. I’m looking forward to working with my teammates and coaches and becoming a Jayhawk.”

“Last year my focus was on academics and working on my individual game,” Young continued. “I feel I have a lot to contribute to the university and the Kansas basketball program.”

In July 2009, Young, whose mother is Puerto Rican, played for Puerto Rico in the U19 World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand. Young averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in the event as Puerto Rico went 5-4. Kansas senior guard Tyshawn Taylor led the USA Men’s U19 Team to the gold medal at the 2009 U19 World Championship, including an 82-61 win against Young’s Puerto Rico squad during the competition.

Young was a prep standout at Perris High School in Perris, Calif. He averaged 16.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocked shot per game his senior season and recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 17 rebounds and 12 blocked shots against Cajon.

Missouri State to play basketball exhibition at Missouri Southern

MSU Sports Information

Missouri State University Director of Athletics Kyle Moats announced Friday (June 17) the University has received a waiver from the NCAA to play a men’s basketball exhibition game at Missouri Southern State University on Saturday, Nov. 5.

NCAA regulations prohibit Division I programs from playing on the road for preseason exhibitions. However, the game on the campus of Missouri Southern in Joplin will be held in conjunction with ongoing area-wide relief efforts to aid victims of the May 22 tornado that tore through the southwest Missouri community about 70 miles west of Springfield.

All proceeds from the game will go directly to the Missouri Southern Foundation’s Tornado Emergency Relief Fund to help aid the relief effort for the tornado that has killed 153.

“To see what the people there have gone through is really tough, particularly since it’s a place I’ve lived and coached,” said first-year MSU head basketball coach Paul Lusk who coached at Missouri Southern for current head coach Robert Corn from 1999-2002. “It just hits close to home with me, and I am really grateful we’ll get an opportunity to help.”

The NCAA waiver will also allow the Bears to retain their two home exhibition games, which are still being finalized. The complete non-conference schedule is expected to be released during the next couple of weeks.

“We are grateful that the NCAA has given us a chance to help our friends in Joplin with this game,” said Moats. “We have been waiting a couple of weeks to find out if (the waiver) would be granted or not, and we were elated that the game is now a reality.

“The real winners are the people of Joplin,” Moats continued. “We want them to know their neighbors at Missouri State are here for them for the long haul, and our commitment to providing assistance will continue long after the final horn sounds for this basketball game.”

Details on the game time and ticket information will be released at a later date.

Missouri Southern State University is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), of which the Bears were a charter member. MSU competed in the MIAA from 1912 to 1981 and has played the Lions just twice in men’s basketball, most recently in 1978, in addition to an exhibition game at Hammons Student Center in 2005.

The Bears completed the 2010-11 season with a 26-9 overall record and finished 15-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference en route to the program’s first MVC regular-season title. The Lions were 26-5 this past season and advanced to the NCAA Division II round of 32

Ted Silva named Nebraska pitching coach

NU Sports Information

Nebraska baseball coach Darin Erstad announced the second addition to his coaching staff on Friday, as Ted Silva has been hired as the Huskers’ pitching coach. Silva comes to Lincoln from the West Coast, where he has spent the past four seasons as the pitching coach at UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount.

Silva, a native of Redondo Beach, Calif., and a 1995 All-America pitcher at Cal State Fullerton, helped lead UC Irvine to national prominence from 2008-10 when the Anteaters qualified for three straight NCAA Regionals and won the 2009 Big West Conference title. He moved on to Loyola Marymount under longtime friend and former Titan teammate Jason Gill for the 2011 season.

“I know the University of Nebraska sets the bar with its great tradition, fan support and facilities” said Silva, who was an assistant coach for UC Irvine at the 2008 Lincoln Regional. “Now having the opportunity to come back and work with Coach Erstad is extremely humbling and exciting. I have been fortunate to be a part of some great teams the past few years, and I cannot wait to help this prestigious university. It is an exciting time for the Nebraska baseball program.”

In Silva’s first season as pitching coach, UC Irvine won the 2008 Lincoln Regional, including a 3-2 win over host Nebraska. The Anteaters nearly advanced to the College World Series, but fell one inning short of sweeping No. 2 LSU before the Tigers came back to win the Super Regional. While at UCI, Silva’s pitching unit produced a 3.89 ERA and helped the program to its first Big West Conference championship. The Anteaters qualified for the NCAA Tournament all three years and were eliminated in 2010 by eventual national runner-up UCLA.

“Coach Silva is one of the best in the country,” Erstad said. “He has been a part of many successful teams, and his track record speaks for itself. I wanted to keep an open mind through the search and in the end I knew who I had to go after. I look forward to working with Coach Silva and am extremely excited he is coming to Nebraska.”

Silva took an assistant coaching position at Loyola Marymount under Gill for the 2011 season. The two were teammates on the 1994 Cal State Fullerton squad that finished 47-16 and reached the College World Series. In his only season with the Lions, Silva’s pitchers posted a 3.25 ERA to rank 30th nationally, cutting the team’s ERA nearly in half from 2010 (7.21). A trio of LMU pitchers were selected in the 2011 MLB Draft, including a pair of top-15 round selections in Jason Wheeler (8th round) and Alex Gillingham (11th round). During his first two seasons, Wheeler was 1-4 with a 7.80 ERA before improving to 6-4 with a 3.84 ERA in his junior year under Silva. Gillingham, who earned 2011 first-team All-West Coast Conference honors, saw similar improvement, as he was 6-8 with a 5.51 ERA before producing an 8-4 campaign in 2011 with a 2.49 ERA.

Silva and Gill were on staff at their alma mater in 2005 and 2006 when Silva served as a volunteer assistant coach. The Titans won the Big West Conference championship both years and reached the College World Series in 2006 when CSF produced an NCAA-best 2.73 ERA. Silva helped coach All-Americans and future first-round selections Ricky Romero (2005) and Wes Roemer (2006) to Big West Pitcher of the Year honors. After a year at Fresno State, Silva accepted the UC Irvine pitching coach position and led four Anteater hurlers to a combined 19 All-America awards. Scott Gorgen (2008) and Daniel Bibona (2009-10) collected Big West Pitcher-of-the-Year accolades in his three years at UCI to give Silva a hand in five Big West Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year awards.

During his three seasons at UCI, the Anteaters posted some of the best marks in school history, including the nation’s third-best ERA in 2008 at 3.27, the program’s best since 1974. The same season, UCI struck out a school record 503 hitters. The following year, UCI tied the school record with 20 saves, while the 2010 season saw the Anteaters achieve the league’s second-best totals in ERA (3.98) and strikeouts (483).

Silva spent the 2007 season at Fresno State and helped the Bulldogs to an NCAA Regional appearance. As a team, Fresno State finished with the second-best ERA in the WAC at 4.54, while three Bulldog hurlers ranked in the top 10 individually.

Prior to his coaching days, Silva was a standout pitcher at Cal State Fullerton from 1993-95. A two-time first-team all-conference selection, Silva was 26-7 over his career with a 2.92 ERA and 26 saves, the fourth-most in school history. Silva, who earned 1995 first-team All-America honors, played a key role in the Titans’ run to the national title, including earning the win in the championship game against USC. The 1995 Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year, Silva finished the season as the national leader in victories with a single-season school-record 18 wins (18-1) to go along with six saves. He produced a 2.83 ERA with 142 strikeouts.

As a sophomore, Silva was named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball after he went 4-4 with a 2.29 ERA and 13 saves, the third-most in Titan history. He earned a spot on Team USA following the season.

Silva was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 21st round of the 1995 MLB Draft, the same year Erstad was the No. 1 overall pick by the California Angels. He spent five seasons in the Rangers organization, including one year pitching overseas in Taiwan, while also playing in the independent Atlantic League.

Silva, who also served as an assistant coach at Villa Park High School in 2004, attended Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif., and graduated in 1992.

Former Tiger Richards named Mizzou color analyst

The new color analyst for University of Missouri Football radio broadcasts has been selected, and it’s a former Tiger who will be joining Mike Kelly in the broadcast booth this season.  Former Tiger and NFL standout Howard Richards has been selected as the new analyst, and he’ll replace the legendary John “Mr. Mizzou” Kadlec in the booth beginning this fall.  Kadlec had served as the color analyst for Mizzou Football broadcasts for the past 16 years (1995-2010) and decided to retire following the 2010 season.

A native of St. Louis, Mo., Richards was a four-year letterman and starter at 40 consecutive games at right tackle for coaches Al Onofrio (1977) and Warren Powers (1978-80).  A standout offensive lineman, Richards won 1st-Team All-Big Eight and 2nd-Team All-American honors as a senior, and he went on to become a 1st-round NFL Draft pick in 1981 by the Dallas Cowboys.  Richards spent seven seasons in the National Football League, playing six with the Dallas Cowboys, followed by one year with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring after the 1987 season.  He helped the Cowboys win four NFC East Division championships, along with making two consecutive NFC championship game appearances (1982-83).  Following his retirement from professional football, Richards served for 13 years at the Central Intelligence Agency in several assignments, among which, he served on the security protective staffs of four CIA directors, along with serving a tour of duty in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Richards, who earned a communications degree from Mizzou (with an emphasis in radio/television) in 1988 following his retirement from football, said he is excited to put his degree to work for his alma mater.

“This is a unique opportunity,” Richards said.  “How many times has a person that attends a University as a student-athlete, then gets an opportunity to represent the school as part of the broadcast team?  It was an opportunity that I really wanted to pursue.  Especially given that Coach Kadlec, who I’m replacing, recruited me, I just couldn’t turn it down.  Of all the previous opportunities before me to attempt to break into a broadcast career, I would have looked back in regret had I not pursued this opportunity.  There is still a lot of youthful enthusiasm in me to do this, and this process was almost like being recruited again,” Richards said.

After retirement from football, Richards finished his degree work at Mizzou, and was accepted into Ohio University to take part in their prestigious graduate program.  At the same time, however, he got an offer of employment with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and he accepted that offer.  Richards worked with the CIA for 13 years, before leaving the agency in 2003, when he went into the real estate business in the Washington, D.C. area until 2010, when he moved back to his native St. Louis to be closer to family.  He also started his own personal security firm in 2008, working with former Agency colleagues, and he is still active with that business, doing almost all of his work internationally.

Even with that exciting professional background, Richards said that he always wanted to get into the broadcasting business, particularly with college football.

“Always in the back of my mind, I wanted to be in broadcasting,” Richards said.  “It was always a goal of mine, no matter what I was doing.  With the time spent on campus at Mizzou preparing for this type of career, putting your educational foundation to work makes sense and I’m looking forward to this new challenge in life.  I wouldn’t want to begin at any other juncture than at Mizzou.  I’m excited to work with our student-athletes and be able to share my perspective on football and life with them,” he said.

“I am extremely excited about having the opportunity to work with Howard,” said the Voice of the Tigers, Mike Kelly.  “His playing resume speaks for itself, and he brings a level of credibility to the broadcast that Missouri fans expect.  The fact that he is alumnus is certainly a bonus, and something Tiger fans will also appreciate,” he said.

Richards was selected through an interview and audition process which was overseen by Learfield Sports and Mizzou Sports Properties, in conjunction with the Mizzou Department of Athletics.  Mizzou Sports Properties (MSP) is the multi-media rights partner for Mizzou Athletics.

Kelly also was involved in the process and said that he was impressed.

“There were a lot of quality candidates,” Kelly said.  “Howard definitely stood out, however, and I believe he’ll work hard and do very well for Tiger fans and for the program.  I’m very excited to begin working with him,” Kelly said.

Kansas State’s Allen earns 1st Team All-America honors

KSU Sports Information

Kansas State junior relief pitcher James Allen was named a First Team All-American, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America (NCBWA) announced Wednesday.

Allen earned his second all-America designation of 2011 after Collegiate Baseball placed the closer on its third team. A First-Team All-Big 12 performer, Allen picked up Kansas State’s 10th First Team All-American honor, and he is the second Wildcat to earn a first-team honor in the past three seasons after A.J. Morris’ five designations in 2009.

A product of St. Charles, Mo., Allen was one of 18 players nationally selected to the NCBWA first team, while he is one of just three relief pitchers. Allen was joined by Texas pitchers Taylor Jungmann and Corey Knebel on the first team. Texas Tech reliever John Neely, along with Texas A&M outfielder Tyler Naquin and pitcher Ross Stripling, were named to the third team.

A seventh-round selection by Cincinnati in last week’s MLB Draft, Allen put together one of the best seasons by a relief pitcher in school history. During his junior campaign in 2011, Allen set the K-State records for career (31) and single-season (17) saves. He currently ranks tied for sixth nationally in saves this season, just two behind Knebel. His 31 career saves are also tied for fourth in Big 12 history.

Allen held a 3-1 record and a 1.35 ERA in 2011, and he struck out 45 batters as opposed to just 11 walks in 40.0 innings of work. His 29 appearances this season were tied for the third-most in school history and improved his career total to 81, which is second in school history.

KU’s Walz signs contract with Oakland A’s

KU Sports Information

The Oakland Athletics announced Tuesday that they have signed former Kansas pitcher T.J. Walz to a minor league contract after selecting the Jayhawk right-hander in the 15th round of last week’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Walz has been assigned to the team’s Class A Short-Season affiliate – the Vermont Lake Monsters.

Vermont Lake opens its New York-Penn League season on Monday, June 20 against the Lowell Spinners – a Boston Red Sox affiliate.

Walz, a senior right-handed pitcher out of Omaha, Neb., leaves the Jayhawk program as one of the best pitchers in school history. In 2011, he led the team in wins, going 6-5 in 14 starts with 85 strikeouts in 90 2/3 innings. Walz finished the season with 3.97 ERA, while holding the opposition to a .241 average. He was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention for the second time in his career.

In his illustrious career, Walz holds the school records in innings pitched (328 1/3), games started (50), strikeouts (307), and tied the record for career wins (26). He was a 2009 All-Big 12 second team selection and was named Preseason All-Big 12 in 2010. He was also a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and was twice named conference pitcher of the week in his career.

Two other Jayhawks were also selected in the 2011 draft – junior right-handed pitcher Colton Murray (13th round, Philadelphia Phillies) and Tanner Poppe (37th round, Tampa Bay Rays). Both players have until Aug. 15 to agree to terms with the organizations which drafted them or they would likely return to KU and re-enter the draft in 2012.

K-State women release non-conference basketball schedule

KSU Sports Information

Kansas State women’s basketball head coach Deb Patterson announced on Wednesday the non-conference schedule for the 2011-12 season. The Wildcats’ non-conference slate includes six opponents who reached a postseason tournament during the 2010-11 season.

“Our non-conference schedule will provide our team with exceptional opportunities to face unique styles of play and great, NCAA Tournament-type teams from across the country early in our season,” stated Patterson about the schedule for her 16th season in Manhattan. “We are excited about the opportunity to play in the Cancun Challenge for the second time in five years and to visit Las Vegas for the second time in three seasons. We are also looking forward to the opportunity to face Wichita State for the first time in a number of seasons and to welcome Iowa into Bramlage Coliseum for the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. Overall, I think this schedule will prepare us for the upcoming challenge of the new 18-game Big 12 format.”

K-State will open the 2011-12 season with a three-game home stand beginning on Saturday, Nov. 12, against Dartmouth. The season-opener will be the first of two contests this season that will be part of a “Wildcat Weekend,” as the K-State football team will host Texas A&M at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on the same day.

The Wildcats won the first-ever meeting with the Big Green last season, 69-48, during Dartmouth’s 34th annual Blue Sky Classic in Hanover, N.H. K-State is 6-1 all-time against schools from the Ivy League.

Kansas State will continue its home stand with a midweek matchup with BYU on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The Wildcats lead the series with BYU, 2-0, including a 65-62 in the last meeting on Nov. 27, 2009, in Provo, Utah. The Cougars will be making their first women’s basketball appearance in Manhattan.

The Cougars tallied the fifth 20-win season under head coach Jeff Judkins with a 25-9 mark, which included a 15-1 record and the third regular season title in its final season in the Mountain West Conference. BYU was upended in the MWC semifinals by in-state rival Utah, but continued into the postseason in the WNIT and reached the third round before falling to USC. BYU will begin its first season as a member of the West Coast Conference during the 2011-12 season, as the Wildcats are 7-1 all-time against schools from the WCC.

K-State will play the first of two games against schools from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), as the Wildcats will close out its three-game home stand against Missouri State on Friday, Nov. 18. The Wildcats lead the series with the Lady Bears, 12-3, and won the last meeting between the schools on Dec. 5, 2009, during the championship game of the Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic, 64-60.

Missouri State recorded a 24-11 record last season, including a 12-6 mark in the MVC. The Lady Bears advanced to the title game of the MVC Championships and was selected for the second straight season to the Postseason WNIT, where they advanced to the second round. The Lady Bears are led by three-time All-MVC first team recipient Casey Garrison. The senior guard from Bolivar, Mo., averaged 18.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists during the 2010-11 season.

The Wildcats will make their first road trip of the season to Cancun, Mexico, as K-State will take part in the 2011 Cancun Challenge on Nov. 24-25, at the Moon Palace Resort. This will be K-State’s second appearance in Cancun, as K-State competed in the 2007 Cancun Challenge against Tulane and Michigan State. The Wildcats will face Hofstra and Purdue during the 2011 Cancun Challenge, with dates and times of competition to be determined.

K-State will take on Hofstra, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), for the first time. The Wildcats are 10-3 against schools from the CAA and last faced a member of the league during the 2009 Duel in the Desert, as K-State defeated VCU, 73-67, in Las Vegas. The Pride recorded a 19-12 overall record during the 2010-11 season and a 10-8 mark in the CAA.

The Wildcats will also take on its 2011 NCAA Tournament opponent, Purdue, during the Cancun Challenge. The Boilermakers lead the series with K-State 3-0 and won the NCAA Tournament first round matchup in Storrs, Conn., 53-45. Purdue finished the 2010-11 season with a 21-12 record and returns its entire roster for the 2011-12 season.

Fans interested in traveling to the Cancun Challenge may visit www.cancunchallenge.net for information regarding all-inclusive packages to watch the Wildcats in this tropical setting. Additional teams competing in the 2011 Cancun Challenge are: Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Drake, Idaho State, Marist and South Dakota State.

K-State will return to Manhattan to face Iowa for the second straight season in the 2011 Big 12/Big Ten Challenge on Saturday, Dec. 3. This will be the second “Wildcat Weekend” of the non-conference season, as the K-State football team will host Iowa State in the regular season finale at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Kansas State leads the series with Iowa, 3-1, but the Hawkeyes secured last season’s meeting with a 68-62 decision in Iowa City on Dec. 5. This will be Iowa’s first visit to the Little Apple since Jan. 5, 2003, when K-State tallied a 103-60 win over the Hawkeyes.

The Hawkeyes made their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the eighth in the last 11 seasons during the 2011 campaign in which Iowa notched a 22-9 overall record and a 10-6 mark in Big Ten play. Iowa is led by junior guard and 2011 Associated Press honorable mention All-American Jaime Printy. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native led the Hawkeyes during the 2011 season with a 16.8 scoring average.

For just the second time in the 21st century, Kansas State will square off against Wichita State with a Wednesday, Dec. 7, tipoff. The Wildcats lead the series with the Shockers, 39-6, with the last meeting between the institutions on Dec. 15, 2000 in Wichita, a 65-64 K-State win. The last time K-State and Wichita State met in Manhattan came on Dec. 18, 1999, a 76-66 Shocker win.

The Shockers reached the Postseason WNIT for the second straight season and the fourth time in the program’s history during the 2011 campaign. Wichita State finished the season with a 17-15 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the MVC.

K-State will make its first trip to Brookings, S.D., since the 1974 AIAW Region VI Tournament, as the Wildcats will take on South Dakota State on Saturday, Dec. 10. Kansas State leads the series with the Jackrabbits, 4-0, and won last year’s meeting 56-51 on Nov. 30, 2010.

South Dakota State recorded a 19-14 overall record and 12-6 mark in Summit League action during the 2010-11 season. The Jackrabbits have played in three straight NCAA Tournaments after securing The Summit League’s automatic bid by winning the league’s postseason tournament in each of the last three seasons. Including its 2011 NCAA Tournament appearance, the Jackrabbits have played in five straight postseason tournaments (2007 and 2008 WNITs).

For the second time in three seasons, K-State will take part in the Duel in the Desert at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 18-20. The Wildcats faced UNLV, VCU and UTSA during the 2009 edition of the event and finished with a 2-1 record. The field of the 2011 Duel in the Desert is yet to be determined.

Patterson returns eight letterwinners and three starters from the 12th NCAA Tournament squad in school history, including All-Big 12 selections Brittany Chambers and Jalana Childs. The Wildcats registered an overall record of 21-11 and a 10-6 mark in Big 12 action, which resulted in a tie for third finish in the league.

The 2011-12 Big 12 schedule, complete game times as well as the television schedule will be released at a later date. The league will move to a new 18-game, round-robin format that is expected to start in early January.
