Christian boys lose Class 1 third-place game to Glasgow, 56-45

The St. Joseph Christian boys’ basketball team finished its season Friday night at Mizzou Arena in Columbia as they lost the third-place game in Class 1 to Glasgow, 56-45.

The Lions end their historic season 23-8 as they made their first ever appearance in the Class 1 Final Four.

The game was tied 8-8 after the first quarter, but Glasgow used a 10-0 run in the second and never trailed again.

Christian fell behind 22-17 at halftime and struggled in the third as the Yellow Jackets outscored the Lions 19-8 to break the game wide open.

SJCS pulled to within eight points a couple different times in the fourth quarter, but that was as close as they’d get.

Forrest Hicks led St. Joe Christian with 22 points, while Alex Maudlin added six points and JOrdan Morrison chipped in four point and nine rebounds.

St. Joseph Christian falls to Drexel in Class 1 Final Four

The St. Joseph Christian boys’ basketball team made it’s first appearance in the Class 1 semifinals Tuesday afternoon at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, but the Lions struggled against Drexel and fell to the Bobcats 61-36.

Christian never led in the game and fell behind 28-19 at halftime.  It’s was a 12-point game, 46-34, with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter and then Drexel used a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach.

The Lions committed 23 turnovers in the game and were outrebounded 28-18.  SJCS also shot just 35 percent (14-40), while Drexel finished the game 58.7 percent (27-46).

Forrest Hicks led St. Joe Christian with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Robbie Kaufman and David Beard added six points each.

Christian falls to 23-7 and they’ll close out their season in the Class 1 third-place game as the Lions will play Glasgow (25-6) at 5:00 p.m. Friday inside Mizzou Arena.  You can listen to the game on 680 KFEQ.

Christian boys defeat Jefferson on buzzer-beater to advance to Final Four

The St. Joseph Christian boys are headed to the Final Four in Columbia for the first time in school history after defeating Jefferson, 64-61, in overtime Saturday in the Class 1 Quarterfinals at Bishop LeBlond High School.

The Lions improve to 23-6 on the season and they’ll play Thursday at 1:40 PM inside the Hearnes Center against Drexel.

Christian and Jefferson went back and forth the entire first half as the Lions led 32-29 at halftime, but they took control in the third quarter.

Christian extended its lead to 10 points, 46-36, late in the third quarter and led 46-39 after three.  Jefferson then rallied and used a 14-2 run to take their first lead in the second half, 50-48 before Christian answered back with five straight points.

The two teams went back and forth again late in the fourth quarter and they went to overtime tied at 57.

The Lions let a four-point lead in OT disappear as the game was tied 61-61 with under a minute to play.

Both teams missed potential go-ahead shots but with four second left, Christian’s Brandon Shank grabbed a defensive rebound and dribbled into the front court and made a 30-foot shot off the glass at the buzzer to send SJCS into the Final Four.

Forrest Hicks led St. Joseph Christian with 33 points, while Shank added 12 and Jordan Morrison scored eight.

The Final Four game in Columbia against Drexel will air live on ESPN 1550.

Earlier Saturday, the St. Joseph Christian girls led a 16-point lead slip away as the fell to Jefferson in triple overtime, 61-58.

Alexa Taff led the Lions with 19 points, while Courtlin Osborn added 11 and Emylee King scored 10.

Christian ends its season 22-7.

Christian’s basketball teams advance to Class 1 Quarterfinals

The St. Joseph Christian basketball teams each won their Class 1 sectional game at the MWSU Fieldhouse to advance to the quarterfinals Saturday afternoon.

The Christian girls rallied to defeat Southwest Livingston, 44-38, while the Lions won the boys game over Braymer, 53-36.

Both teams will play Jefferson in their quarterfinal matchups that is hosted by Bishop LeBlond Saturday.

In the girls game, St. Joe Christian used an 8-0 run to end the third quarter to tie the game at 32 and they outscored Southwest Livingston 12-6 in the fourth to win the game.

Danielle Beard led the Lions with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Courtlin Osborn added 11 points.

In the boys game, Christian fell behind 7-3 after the first quarter, but they ended the first half on a 16-4 run and led 24-20 at halftime.

Braymer never got closer than three points the rest of the way and the Lions outscored the Bobcats 14-3 in the fourth to pull away.

Forrest Hicks had 26 points and eight rebounds for Christian, while Jordan Morrison added 10 points.

Both St. Joseph Christian teams improved to 22-6 this season.

The Christian/Jefferson quarterfinal doubleheader will take place at Bishop LeBlond Saturday as the girls tip off at 1:00 p.m. and the boys will start around 2:45 p.m.
