Mustangs rally from five-run deficit, win at Nevada 14-8

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from loss to Jefferson City Saturday with a 14-8 road win at Nevada Sunday.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 18-7 and 14-5 in the MINK League.

After falling behind 2-0 after one inning and 7-2 after three, the Mustangs scored eight unanswered runs to take the lead and they added four more in the ninth inning to cap off the win. St. Joseph is now 6-2 on the road this season.

Karl Koerper, who won the MINK League All-Star Home Run Derby on Wednesday, hit two home runs Sunday and drove in six runs to lead the Mustangs.

Jack Wagner added three hits and three runs scored, while Dylan Ketch, Max Mircovich and Brady Holden had two hits each.

St. Joe’s Ryan Scharf earned the win in relief as he threw four innings and allowed three hits and one unearned run. Scharf struck out seven and walked just one. Starter Alec Byous gave up seven runs in four innings of work.

The Mustangs stay on the road as they play at doubleheader at Ozark Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Meador Park in Springfield.

St. Joseph falls at home to Jefferson City 7-2

The St. Joseph Mustangs had their three-game winning streak snapped Saturday as they lost at home to Jefferson City 7-2.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 17-7 this season and 13-5 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs couldn’t get much going offensively all night as they didn’t score until the ninth innings when they were already down 7-0.

Jefferson City jumped out to a quick lead Saturday as they scored four runs in the top of the first inning and were never threatened.

Colten Kenagy suffered the loss as he allowed five runs in six innings of work. Kenagy struck out seven and walked four batters.

Drew Beazley had two hits for St. Joseph and he drove in the only two runs with a double in the ninth. Dylan Ketch added two hits, while Ketch and Karl Koerper scored one run each.

The Mustangs are on the road Sunday as they play at Nevada at 7:00 p.m. inside Lyons Stadium.

Bednar’s complete game leads Mustangs past Sedalia 4-1

The St. Joseph Mustangs picked up a big road win Friday as they beat Sedalia 4-1 at Liberty Park Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 17-6 and they’re 13-4 in the MINK League. Sedalia falls to 11-5 in league play, 1.5 games back of the Mustangs in the North Division.

St. Joseph jumped out to a quick lead Friday as they scored three runs in the second inning and that was more than enough for Mustangs’ starter Cam Bednar.

Bednar, who has been the MINK League Pitcher of the Week the last two weeks, threw a complete game to get his second win of the season. Bednar allowed one run in the ninth inning and gave up only three hits. He struck out seven and walked five.

Jackson Dierenfeldt led the Mustangs again offensively as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Karson Reid added two hits, while Jordan Maxson and Derek Hussey had one RBI each.

St. Joseph returns home Saturday as they host the Jefferson City Renegades at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium. The game will be broadcast on KFEQ 680 AM and 107.9 FM, as well as online here.

Mustangs dominated Omaha Thursday 15-5

The St. Joseph Mustangs defeated Omaha 15-5 Thursday night in a non-league game inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 16-6 this season and they’ve won both matchups with the Bombers this season.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead Thursday as they scored two runs in the first inning, three more in the second and one run in the third inning. The game was called after seven innings as the ten-run rule came into effect when St. Joseph scored four in the bottom of the seventh.

Jackson Dierenfeldt led the Mustangs as he went 3-for-3 with four runs scored. Terrence Spurlin added three runs and three RBI, while Drew Beazley drove in two runs and Brady Holden scored three times.

Ronnie Wiggington earned the win as he gave up four runs in five innings of work, but all four runs were unearned.

The Mustangs are on the road Friday as they get back into MINK League play. St. Joe travels to Sedalia for a showdown with the first-place Bombers at 7:00 p.m. from Liberty Park Stadium.

North rallies to win MINK League All-Star Game 3-2

The MINK League All-Star game took place at Phil Welch Stadium Wednesday night and the North team defeated the South All-Stars 3-2. It’s the second straight win for the North in the series.

The South scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings and led 2-0 until the eighth when the North scored three unearned runs to take their first lead of the game.

The St. Joseph Mustangs’ Austin Brooks came on in the ninth inning to get the final three outs and earn the save. Sedalia’s Jackson Schmedding, who has signed to play at Missouri Western, got the final two outs of the eighth to ge the win.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team had nine players in the game and they were a big part of the North’s win.

The North had six hits on Wednesday and three came from Mustangs. Jackson Dierenfeldt had one hit and got on base twice, Jordan Maxson added a single and Jack Wagner had a single in his only at bat and scored a run in the eighth inning.

On the mound, St. Joe’s Cam Bednar, Mack Stephenson, Jake Purl and Austin Brooks each threw a scoreless inning and didn’t allow a hit.

The Mustangs, who have been off since Friday, are back in action Thursday as they play a non-league game against Springfield at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs announce dates for make-up games

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — New dates have been added to the St. Joseph Mustangs 2019 schedule and promotional calendar as a result of rain outs on June 22nd and June 23rd.

The Mustangs will now host the Sedalia Bombers for a doubleheader on Friday, July 19th. Game one will begin at 5pm, with game two beginning with a small break after the conclusion of game one. Each game on the 19th is scheduled to be a 7 inning contest.

The Mustangs will also host the Chillicothe Mudcats on Sunday, July 21st, to make up for the rain out on Sunday June 23rd. The game will begin at 6pm.

“We were looking forward to play Chillicothe and Sedalia this past weekend until the weather had other ideas,” said Mustangs General Manager Ky Turner. “Both teams are two division rivals, and very important for the playoff race. We love playing in front of our hometown crowd. These games have been added at the end of the regular season, which means every pitch and at bat can determine who’s in or out of the playoffs.”

In addition to the updated games, the 2019 promotional calendar has shifted as well. Saturday, July 6th will feature a Pregame Fire vs Police Softball game as part of the Public Safety Night. Firefighters, Police, and EMTs all receive 2 free GA tickets for this evening, and will also feature a Mustangs Team Photo Giveaway. However, there will be additions to the July 6th promotional night. July 6th will also be Youth Sports Night- kids 18 and under wearing any youth jersey, for any sport, will also get in free. The 6th will also be the make up date for Mizzou Alumni Night- there will be Mizzou giveaways, courtesy of the Mizzou Buchanan County Alumni Association, as well as a scholarship drawing. Incoming or current Mizzou undergrad students can be entered into a drawing for a $750 scholarship. Two $750 scholarships will be given away. There will also be a post game Mosaic Life Care Fireworks Spectacular.

The Mustangs and Hy-Vee also partnered together for a pop socket giveaway for the first 200 guests. Originally scheduled for June 23rd, the pop socket giveaway will now be scheduled for the Sunday, July 21st match up versus the Chillicothe Mudcats.

Tickets for the Mustangs games that were rained out on June 22nd and June 23rd are good for any future Mustangs game, in 2019 or any future year, of equal or lesser value.

Mustangs game with Sedalia postponed Saturday

The St. Joseph Mustangs had their game with the Sedalia Bombers postponed Saturday night at Phil Welch Stadium due to rain and thunderstorms in the area.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball is 15-6 overall this season and they’re 12-4 in the MINK League. Sedalia is 9-3 in league play and the game Saturday was the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

No make-up date has been announced yet.

MINK League announces rosters for 2019 All-Star Game

The M.I.N.K. League has announced the 2019 All-Star Games rosters featuring the best players from across the league through the first half of the season.

“The All-Star game is a great time to get our league together to showcase the talent across the league,” M.I.N.K. League Commissioner Ron Rodriguez said. “I find it important that players get together and learn more about each other from across the two divisions.”

The 2019 All-Star Game returns to St. Joseph with 56 of the league’s best players taking part in the North versus South contest.

“It’s nice to have it back in St. Joe,” Rodriguez said. “They do a great job hosting the All-Star games, as well as the other cities that have hosted in the past.”

The St. Joseph Mustangs will have the most representatives in the All-Star game with 10, followed by Chillicothe and Joplin with eight, Nevada and Ozark with seven, Jefferson City and Sedalia with six, and Clarinda with four.

The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, June 26 at Phil Welch Stadium at 7 p.m. with the Home Run Derby set for 5:30 p.m. Gates will open at 4:30 pm. For advance tickets, please call the St. Joseph Mustangs Box Office at 816.279.STJO.

Mustangs rally to defeat Omaha 8-7 in 10 innings

The St. Joseph Mustangs snapped a two-game losing streak Friday night as they rallied to defeat the Omaha Bombers 9-8 in 10 innings.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 15-6 this season season.

The Mustangs trailed Omaha 8-5 with two outs in the ninth and no base runners, but St. Joseph earned their first win when trailing after eight innings.

Karl Koerper drew a two-out walk in the ninth, Hampton Hudson also walked and then Dylan Ketch singled home Koerper to pull the Mustangs within two runs.

St. Joe catcher J.P. Tighe then hit a two-run double to tie the game and force extra innings.

In the 10th, Jordan Maxson hit a sacrifice fly that scored Karsen Reid for the walk-off win for the Mustangs.

Koerper had two hits, including his fourth home run, and two RBI, while Ketch added two hits.

Cameron July earned the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings. July struck out five and allowed just one hit.

The Mustangs get back into MINK League play Saturday as they host the Sedalia Bombers at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs lose at home to Nevada Thursday 7-3

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their second straight game Thursday as they fell at home to the Nevada Griffons 7-3.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 14-6 this season and 12-4 in the MINK League.

Nevada used a five-run first inning to take a quick lead on the Mustangs and they weren’t able to rally Thursday. St. Joseph committed three errors in that opening frame as four of the runs were unearned. The Mustangs did score single runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings to close the game to 5-3, but the Griffons capped off the win with two runs in the ninth.

Mahlyk Davis suffered the loss for St. Joe as he allowed just the one earned run and seven hits in seven innings of work.

The three runs scored by the Mustangs were all solo home runs from Jordan Maxson, Karl Koerper and Drew Beazley.

St. Joseph is back at home Friday as they host the Omaha Strike Zone in a non-league game at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
