St. Joseph drops series opener to Joplin 5-1

The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their first loss at home this season as they fell to the Joplin Outlaws Thursday night 5-1 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 6-2 and they’re 3-2 in MINK League play.

The Mustangs scored first as they took a 1-0 lead on an Easton Fortuna RBI ground out in the second inning, but that was all St. Joseph would get.

Joplin answered with two runs in the fourth inning to take the lead and they added three in the sixth.

Josh Monson suffered the loss for the Mustangs as he allowed two runs on just two hits in five innings of work. Monson struck out six and walked four.

St. Joe had just six hits Thursday night and they were all singles. Joshua Lincoln, Brady Anderson, Drew Standifer, Derek Hussey, Pat Dillon and Kaleb Reid each had a base hit.

The Mustangs play game two of their three-game series with Joplin tonight at Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph builds early lead and knocks off Clarinda 5-2

The St. Joseph Mustangs returned home Wednesday night and picked up their second consecutive win as they were able to defeat Clarinda 5-2 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegaite summer baseball is now 6-1 this season and 3-1 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped on the A’s early with two runs in the first inning and they added single runs in the second and third to build a 4-0 lead.

Josh Williams led St. Joseph’s 11-hit attack with two solo home runs. Brody Santilli, Brady Anderson, Louis Mele and Easton Fortuna added two hits each for the Mustangs.

Osvaldo Raya earned the win on the mound as he improves to 2-0 this season. Raya went six innings and allowed just two runs on four hits. Kyle Uhrich worked a scoreless ninth inning for his second save in as many nights.

The Mustangs begin a three-game series at home against the Joplin Outlaws on Thursday. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph defeats Sedalia 11-10 in 11 innings

The St. Joseph Mustangs needed extra innings Tuesday at Sedalia, but St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team defeated the Bombers 11-10 in 11 innings.

The Mustangs improve to 5-1 and they’re 2-1 in the MINK League.

St. Joseph built a 6-2 lead in the sixth inning before Sedalia mounted its comeback. The Mustangs never gave the lead up, but the Bombers scored three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth inning to tie the game and force extra innings.

The game remained tied until the top of the 11th when Matt Wollnik drove in Brett Marr with a two-out single to put St. Joe back ahead for good. Kyle Uhrich work around a walk and a single to earn the save as Sedalia left two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 11th.

Nikko Pablo got the win for the Mustangs in relief as he threw two scoreless innings. Matt Diaz started the game and went six innings as he allowed four runs on five hits

Wollnik led the St. Joseph offense as he finished 3-for-6 with a career high five RBI. Jacob Richardson added three hits and two runs scored, while Marr scored three times.

The Mustangs return home Wednesday to play the Clarinda A’s. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph Mustangs suffer walk-off loss at Clarinda

The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season Sunday at Clarinda 6-5 as the A’s got a walk-off single in the ninth inning.

St. Joe’s collegaite summer baseball team is now 4-1 this season and 1-1 in the MINK League.

With the scored tied 5-5 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Clarinda catcher Kale Emshoff hit a ground ball down the third base line that was ruled fair and it scored Danny Mitchell and ended the game.

The Mustangs built a 4-0 lead Sunday after a Jeremiah Figueroa three-run home run in the fourth inning, but Clarinda answered with four of their own in the bottom of the fourth. The A’s took the lead in the fifth before St. Joseph tied the game in the sixth.

The scored remained that way until the ninth inning, but the Mustangs missed numerous chances in the final four innings to break the tie and take the lead. They had at least one runner in scoring position in each of the last four innings and could not drive in a run. In all, St. Joe went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and they had only one two-out RBI.

Figueroa finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored. Joshua Lincoln added two hits and Louis Mele scored two runs.

Jake Van Vacter started and got a no decision as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out seven and walked three.

The Mustangs are off Monday and continue MINK League play at Sedalia Tuesday night. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. from Liberty Park Stadium.

Standifer’s cycle helps St. Joseph dominate Cassville 18-1

The St. Joseph Mustangs improved to 4-0 Saturday with a dominating 18-1 win over the Cassville Arrows inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team has now outscored their first four opponents 47-5 and they’re hitting .379 as a team. The Mustangs pitching staff has an ERA of 1.25 through four games and they’ve struck out 42 batters and walked 13.

On Saturday, St. Joseph jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and then broke the game open with a six-run third and they added six mores runs in the eighth.

Drew Standifer hit a pinch hit three-run home run on Friday night and then made Mustangs history Saturday. The recent William Jewell graduate hit for the first cycle in franchise history and he did it in dramatic fashion. Standifer hit a grand slam in his last at bat in the eighth inning as he finished 4-5 with seven RBI.

Brody Santilli and Louis Mele added four hits each. Santilli scored four runs and Mele added three RBI.

John Millan earned the win on the mound as he allowed just one run on three hits in six innings of work. Millan struck out seven and walked one. Billy Olson, Jaren Kutzke and Kyle Uhrich each pitched a perfect inning of relief to cap off the win. Those three combined to strike out six in three innings.

St. Joseph is on the road Sunday for the first time this season as they play at Clarinda. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

Mustangs hammer Nevada 11-0 in MINK League opener

The St. Joseph Mustangs stayed unbeaten Friday nigth with an 11-0 victory over Nevada in their MINK League opener inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 3-0 and 1-0 in the MINK League. Nevada falls to 0-2 and 0-1 in league play.

Michael Lydon-Lorson earned the win in his first start of the season as he threw a three-hit complete game shutout. He struck out 11 batters and walked just one in nine innings of work.

The Mustangs scored on a wild pitch and an error in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead and it stayed that way until the seventh. St. Jospeh pulled away with a five-run seventh inning and they added four more in the eighth.

Brady Anderson had two hits and drove in three runs, while Drew Standifer hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the eighth inning. Matt Wollnik added two hits and Jeremiah Figueroa scored three runs.

The Mustangs are back in action Saturday for a non-league game against the Cassville Arrows inside Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and it’ll be broadcast on 680 KFEQ.

St. Joseph defeats Kansas City Monarchs to stay unbeaten

The St. Joseph Mustangs moved to 2-0 this season with an 8-3 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs Thursday inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team pulled away late after sqwandering a 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs scored one in the first inning and added three more runs in the fourth, before the Monarchs tied the game a three-run seventh inning.

St. Joseph answered right back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the seventh and added one run in the eighth.

Nikko Pablo earned the win in relief as he threw 2.1 scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Josh Monson started for the Mustangs as he threw five scoreless innings. Monson gave up five hits, struck out three and walked four.

Easton Fortuna led the St. Joe offense as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Derek Hussey, Brady Anderson, Josh Williams and Brett Marr added two hits each.

The Mustangs play their MINK League opener Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they host Nevada at 7:00 p.m. That game will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.

Mustangs open season with 9-1 win over Midwest A’s

The St. Joseph Mustangs opened their 2017 season Wednesday night with a 9-1 victory over the Midwest A’s inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 8-1 in season opening games as they scored nine unanswered runs Wednesday after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning.

The Mustangs scored in four consecutive innings starting with three runs in the second and they capped it off with a four-run fifth inning.

St. Joseph had 14 hits on the night as all nine Mustangs who started the game had at least one hit. Brady Anderson and Jacob Richardson each finished 3-for-5. Anderson and Joshua Lincoln drove in two runs a piece, while Richardson, Brody Santilli and Brett Marr all scored two runs.

Mustangs release 2017 promotional schedule

riggertMustangsSt. Joseph, Mo. — The St. Joseph Mustangs released a list of promotional nights for the upcoming 2017 season.

The Promotional Calendar is highlighted by visits to Phil Welch Stadium from some well-known characters. Those characters include: Minions of Despicable Me on July 1st, Marshall from the popular Nickelodeon show PAW Patrol June 10th, and Spongebob Squarepants will be in attendance at the Mustangs Alumni Game on June 17th. Additionally, Wonder Woman will be featured on June 3rd, for Daddy/Daughter Date night.

The Mustangs Alumni Night will feature the return of a pregame Mini Mustangs Night, featuring local children that will play on the field prior to the Mustangs first pitch. The Mini Mustangs Night is a fundraiser for the local Dream Factory.

Mustangs games will also feature a number of game worn jersey auctions that will take place during games. Exclusive jerseys to be featured during the jersey auctions include; a pink jersey for local breast patients, green jersey in conjunction with NWMSU Night, purple jersey for Erin Hook FCA Camp Scholarship, and a patriotic jersey on July 4th.

Once again this season the Mustangs will play on July 3rd and July 4th. July 3rd will feature a special American Celebration and Military Hero Ceremony, as well as sky divers and photo opportunities with a bald eagle. On July 4th, local children may enter the Little Mister and Miss Mustang Competition. Both evenings will see a special Patriotic Mosaic Life Care Fireworks Spectacular to end both nights.

General Manager Ky Turner says these promotional nights offer Mustang fans a variety of fun and unique opportunities to take in a Mustangs game.

“We know that not everyone that comes to games likes baseball,” Turner said, “but we do know that everyone that comes likes to have fun. So we tried to put on a championship level baseball product on the field for baseball fans, but we also have great entertainment options for the entire family. We’re extremely excited for the promotions calendar that we have set forth for this year and we are excited to begin year nine at Phil Welch.”

St. Joseph Mustangs Fan Fest set for May 30th

riggertMustangsSt. Joseph, Mo. — The St. Joseph Mustangs kickoff their 9th season at Phil Welch Stadium in lieu of Opening Day with the 3rd annual Mustangs Fan Fest celebration Tuesday, May 30th at the East Hills Shopping Center from 5:30-7:30pm.

The first half hour will feature a live press conference with local media. Additionally, guests in attendance will be provided the opportunity to ask Mustangs front office, coaches, and players questions as well.

The entire Mustangs 2017 roster will also be on hand for the duration of the event, signing autographs .Guests in attendance will also receive a free 2017 schedule poster giveaway.

For musically inclined fans, National Anthem auditions will be taking place at Mustangs Fan Fest. Fans of all ages are invited to participate, for the opportunity to sing before a 2017 Mustangs baseball game.

This event is free, and will also feature prize giveaways, an appearance from Rally, and a first look at new Mustangs merchandise.

“This is our players first chance to interact with our fans. It’s a great chance to put a face with a name before they put the Mustangs helmet on for the first time,” Mustangs General Manager Ky Turner said. “Our players really enjoying meeting members of the community, and getting to know them too. Whether you want to sit and listen to the press conference, or move around, playing games and meeting our players, there is something for everyone to do.”

The Mustangs will begin their search for a fifth MINK League Championship in seven years. Coming off a 27-15 record and a playoff appearance in 2016, they will kick off the ninth season in franchise history on May 31 against the Midwest A’s.
