Mustangs roll past Clarinda 16-7 for fourth straight win

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs scored a season high 16 runs Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated Clarinda 16-7.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team has now won four straight games as they improve to 22-8 and 16-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs took control of the game early as they scored four runs in the first inning and added three more in the second.  They eventually led 14-0 as Clarinda didn’t score until they put up five runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth.

St. Joseph shortstop Evan McDonald had a big night as he finished 4-for-6 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI.  Louis Mele stay hot as well as he went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.  Brady Anderson, Tyler Cox, Jeremiah Figueroa and Clayton Risch added two hits each.

Miles Kilgore started for the Mustangs and earned his fourth win of the summer.  He went 7.2 innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs.

St. Joseph plays a non-league game Saturday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they host North Kansas City at 7:00 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.

St. Joseph earns another extra inning win against Sedalia

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs played their fourth extra inning game against Sedalia Thursday night as they outlasted the Bombers in 11 innings 4-3.

St. Joe is 3-1 against Sedalia in those extra inning games as they improve to 21-8 this season and 15-8 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs lead the North Division by 1.5 games over Sedalia and Chillicothe.

St. Joseph’s college summer baseball team scored single runs in the second, third and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead that held up until the ninth.

Sedalia was down to its last strike in the ninth inning with one runner on base, but Louis Niemerg reached base on an error by Mustangs’ first baseman Louis Mele.  It keep the inning alive and after a walk loaded the bases, Jonathon Ramon hit a double to clear the bases and tie the game.

The scored remained 3-3 until the 12th when the St. Joe’s Connor Bacon led off with a single and advanced to second on an error.  After he was sacrificed to third and Sedalia intentionally walked Ozzie Rodriguez, Jeremiah Figueroa came through with a walk-off RBI single.

Mele and Bacon led the Mustangs offense Thursday night as they each had two hits.  Mele had a double and a home run, while Bacon scored three times.  Brett Marr also had two hits.

Jason Blanchard started for St. Joseph and threw 6.2 scoreless innings.  He allowed just five hits and struck out two.  Jake Van Vacter earned the win in relief as he worked around a hit and a walk to pitch a scoreless 11th inning.

The Mustangs remain at home Friday as they host Clarinda at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs get a non-league win over Rossville 6-2

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs picked up their second straight win as they defeated Rossville 6-2 in a non-league game Wednesday inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 20-8 this season and they remain 14-8 in the MINK League.

Rossville jumped out to a quick lead with one run in the top of the first inning off of Mustangs’ starter Jacob Hurst.  The score remained 1-0 until the fourth when St. Joseph scored four runs to take control of the game.

Louis Mele, Ozzie Rodriguez and Matt Wollnick each drove in one run in the inning, while Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch.

St. Joe added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before the Rattlers finally got a run back in the eighth.

Hurst picked up the win as he went six innings and allowed just one run on five hits.  He struck out four and walked three batters.

Mele finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI as the Mustangs had only seven hits Wednesday.  Five of those came in their four-run fourth inning.

St. Joseph returns to MINK League play Thursday as they host Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph scores seven unanswered runs to defeat Joplin 9-4

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from a loss at Nevada Sunday with a 9-4 victory Monday night at Joplin.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 19-8 and 14-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs fell behind 4-2 after three innings and then scored in four consecutive innings to pull away from the Outlaws.

St. Joseph scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game, then added three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh inning.

Mustangs’ left fielder Tyler Cox finished 2-for-4 with a home run, triple and two runs scored.  Matt Wollnick added two hits and two RBI.

Logan Jacik earned the win as he allowed six hits and four runs in five innings of work.  He struck out two and walked five.  St. Joe relievers John Millan, Jonathan Lynch and Jake Purl combined to throw four scoreless innings as they allowed just one base hit.

The Mustangs have a day off Tuesday and then return home to Phil Welch Stadium Wednesday for a non-league game against Rossville.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs allow six runs in the eighth, lose at Nevada 8-2

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs lost for the third time in three games at Nevada this season as they fell on Sunday 8-2 at Lyons Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 18-8 this season and 13-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs fell behind 2-0 after two innings Sunday, but came back to tie the game in the third with two runs.

Connor Bacon had an RBI double and then Kyle Uhrich singled to bring in Bacon.

The game remained tied 2-2 until the bottom of the eighth inning when St. Joseph went to its bullpen.

Jonathan Lynch came on in relief of Mustangs’ starter Michael Lydon-Lorson, who allowed just four hits and two runs in seven innings of work.  Lynch hit the first two batters he faced and then walked another to load the bases.  Drew Ferguson then came on for Lynch and he walked three more batters and allowed two hits as six runs scored in the inning for Nevada.

St. Joe only had five hits Sunday as Louis Mele finished 2-for-4 and Tyler Cox had the other hit.

The Mustangs have at least one win against every team in the MINK League this season except Nevada.  They’re 0-3 in their three games at Nevada and they’ve been outscored by the Griffons 30-9.  St. Joseph still has three games left with Nevada at Phil Welch Stadium, the first of those is July 6.

The Mustangs stay on the road Monday as they play at Joplin.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Marble’s complete game leads St. Joseph past Branson

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs picked up their second consecutive win Saturday night as they defeated Branson 10-4 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 18-7 this season and 13-7 in the MINK League.

Dixon Marble, making his last start in a Mustangs’ uniform, threw a complete game to earn his third win of the season.  Marble is leaving the team to return home to witness the birth of his first child.

Marble is in his fourth year with St. Joseph and he now has 12 career wins.  He scattered nine hits and allowed four runs while striking out eight and walking just one.

The Mustangs took advantage of many Branson mistakes Saturday as St. Joe only had six hits on the night.  The Nationals committed four errors, while the pitching staff walked eight, hit four others and threw two wild pitches.

Davey Casciola had two hits and scored three runs, while Brett Marr had a single and three RBI.  Kyle Uhrich and Louis Mele added two RBI each.

The Mustangs are back on the road Sunday as they play at Nevada.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. from Lyons Stadium.

Mustangs roll to non-league win against Carroll 10-4

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs took an early lead against Carroll Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium and cruised to a 10-4 non-league win.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 17-7 this season and they remain 12-7 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs scored four runs in the first inning and added five in the third as they built a 9-1 lead for starter Colton Kenagy.

Kenagy struggled with his command as he walked six and hit two other batters, but he grinded through six innings to get the win.  He allowed three runs and just two hits.

Jacob Richardson, Kyle Uhrich, Jacob Hurst, Louis Mele and Jake Alu had two hits each for St. Joseph, while Uhrich hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in three runs.

The Mustangs get back into league play Saturday as they host the Branson Nationals inside Phil Welch Stadium.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN 1550.

St. Joseph splits doubleheader at Sedalia Thursday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs split their doubleheader at Sedalia Thursday as they won game one 8-7 in 10 innings and then dropped the nightcap 6-2.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 16-7 and 12-7 in the MINK League.

Game one Thursday was a continuation of the Mustangs suspended game Monday at Sedalia.  St. Joseph started the day with a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning and built a 7-1 lead in the fifth.

Sedalia battled back as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then tied the game in the seventh to force extra innings.

Brady Anderson led off the 10th inning with a solo home run and the Mustangs held on for the 8-7 victory.

Louis Mele, Evan McDonald and Clayton Risch had two hits each, while Jake Alu had two RBI.

Steve D’Amico earned the win in relief as he went five innings and allowed one run on two hits.

In game two, the Bombers broke through to snap a scoreless tie with five runs in the fourth inning.  Sedalia led 6-0 when St. Joe finally got on the board with two runs in the seventh.  Jacob Richardson had an RBI single and Kyle Uhrich added a sacrifice fly.

Miles Kilgore suffered the loss as he went seven innings and allowed six runs on eight hits.  Kilgore struck out three and walked three others.

The Mustangs finish their seven-game road trip 4-3 as they return home Friday for a non-league game against the Carroll Merchants.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium and it’ll be broadcast on ESPN 1550.

Mustangs win third straight at Branson

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs completed a three-game sweep against Branson Wednesday at Bolivar, as St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team defeated the Nationals 9-5.

The Mustangs improve to 15-6 this season and 11-6 in the MINK League.

St. Joseph built a 4-0 lead after four innings and then broke open a 4-1 game with a four-run seventh.

Mustangs’ first baseman Kyle Uhrich had another big night as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.  Jacob Richardson added three hits, while Richardson, Evan McDonald, Brady Anderson and Clayton Risch had one RBI each.

Jonathan Lynch started the game and threw two scoreless innings, but Jason Blanchard picked up the win as he went six innings of relief.  He allowed four runs on six hits, but he struck out 10 batters.

The Mustangs complete their seven game road trip Thursday in Sedalia.  They’ll complete their suspended game from Monday beginning at 4:00 p.m. and then play the regular scheduled nine-inning game at 7:00 p.m.  Game one will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 and game two will air on 680 KFEQ.

St. Joseph sweeps Branson to snap two-game skid

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs snapped their two-game losing streak Tuesday as they swept a doubleheader at Bolivar against the Branson Nationals, 10-1 and 13-6.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 14-6 this season and 10-6 in the MINK League.

In game one, John Millan made his first start of the season the Mustangs and allowed just one run and five hits in six innings of work.

Kyle Uhrich hit two home runs to lead the offense as he drove in four runs.  Brett Marr, Brady Anderson and Tyler Cox added two hits each, while Cox had two RBI as well.

In game two, St. Joseph blew a 5-0 lead as the Nationals came back to tie it in the fourth inning, but the Mustangs pulled away late with single runs in the fifth and sixth and then six runs in the seventh inning.

Orencio Fisher, Jake Alu, Davey Casciola and Evan McDonald had two hits each, while Fisher scored four runs and Clayton Risch added three runs scored.

Logan Campbell earned the win in relief as he threw 2.1 scoreless innings.  Jacob Hurst started and got pulled in the fourth inning as he allowed five runs on five hits.

The Mustangs close out their three-game series against Branson Wednesday as they play the Nationals at 5:00 p.m. in Bolivar.
