St. Joseph takes care of Clarinda for third straight victory

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Wednesday as they beat Clarinda 10-4 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 6-2 and 4-2 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped out to a quick lead again as they scored three runs in the first inning.  The A’s came back to tie the game with three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but St. Joseph answered right back.

The Mustangs scored four in the bottom of the fifth inning and added two more runs in the seventh.

Kyle Uhrich led the St. Joe offense as he finished 3-for-4 with three RBI.  Davey Casciola added three hits, while Peyton Scarbrough had two hits and two RBI.

Dixon Marble earned the win as he gave up three earned runs and eight hits in six innings of work.  He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

The Mustangs are back at home Thursday as they host Joplin.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Uhrich drives in three as Mustangs blank KC Bankers 6-0

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs cruised to a 6-0 non-league win against the Kansas City Bankers Tuesday inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 5-2 and they remain 3-2 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped on Kansas City early as Kyle Uhrich drove in two runs with a single in the first inning.

Uhrich added an RBI ground out in the third inning and St. Joseph capped off the win with three runs in the eigth.  The Mustangs scored on a wild pitch and they got an RBI double from Tyler Cox and a sac fly from Hayden Steele.

St. Joe starter Miles Kilgore improves to 2-0 on the season as he threw seven shutout innings.  He struck out two and walked one.

The Mustangs get back into league play Wednesday as they host the Clarinda A’s.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs roll to 10-3 win at Clarinda Monday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their worst loss in franchise history Sunday at Nevada, but they bounced back with a 10-3 win at Clarinda Monday night.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 4-2 this season and 3-2 in the MINK League.

No stats were made available Monday night but Logan Jacik earned the win for the Mustangs, while Brady Anderson drove in three runs.  Matt Wollnik and Jacob Richardson added two RBI each.

St. Joseph returns home Tuesday as they host the Kansas City Bankers in the non-league game at Phil Welch Stadium.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph gets shutout at Nevada 14-0

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their worst loss in franchise history Sunday night as they lost at Nevada 14-0.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 3-2 this season and 2-2 in the MINK League.

Nevada broke open a scoreless game in the second inning as they scored seven two-out runs and sent 12 men to the plate.  The Griffons added four more two-out runs in the third inning and led 11-0 and three.

Jacob Hurst stared for St. Joseph but didn’t make it out of the second inning.  He lasted just 1.2 innings and allowed seven runs on four hits.  He struck out two and walked four.

The Mustangs used four pitchers and they combined to walk 13 batters and hit three others.

St. Joe had only four hits on the night and didn’t have a hit after the third inning until Matt Wollnik singled in ninth.  Brett Marr, Davey Casciola and Kyle Unrich also had singles in the game.

The Mustangs are back on the road Monday as they play at Clarinda.  The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Municipal Stadium.

Mustangs blank Joplin behind Lydon-Lorson’s complete game

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from their first loss of the season to defeat Joplin Saturday night 2-0 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 3-1 and 2-1 in the MINK League.

Mustangs’ starter Michael Lydon-Lorson was the story of the game as he threw a complete game two-hit shutout.  He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

St. Joseph took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning as Tyler Cox had an RBI single.  Then in the seventh after a leadoff triple by Brett Marr, Trent Hill drove him in with a single.

Marr led the Mustangs’ offense as he finished 3-for-3 and he scored both runs.  Hill and Jacob Richardson added two hits each.

St. Joe will be on the road for the first time this season on Sunday as they travel to Nevada.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM.

Mustangs lose to Joplin 7-6 in 13 innings

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they fell to Jopin 7-6 in 13 innings.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 2-1 and 1-1 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs struggled early and fell behind 6-1 after five and half innings.  They battled back with two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth and they tied the game with three in the seventh inning.

Matt Wollnick drove in two runs in the seventh and St. Joseph also got another unearned run.

The game remained tied until the 13th inning when Joplin got to Logan Campbell with a walk and a single to start the inning.  The Outlaws then got a sacrifice fly from Brandon Pugh and the Mustangs came up empty in the bottom half of the inning.

Davey Casciola, Trent Hill and Brady Anderson each had two hits to lead St. Joe.  Wollnick and Hill had two RBI a piece.

George Brandecker made the start from the Mustangs and he allowed six hits and six runs in the 5.1 innings of work.

St. Joseph is back in action Saturday as they host Joplin again inisde Phil Welch Stadium.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph remains unbeaten with walk-off win over Sedalia

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their MINK League opener Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated Sedalia 3-2 in 10 innings.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 2-0 and 1-0 in MINK League play, while Sedalia is now 0-2.

The Mustangs scored an unearned run in the fourth inning on a throwing error by Sedalia 3B Louis Niemerg and added another unearned run in the sixth on another throwing error by Bombers’ SS Devon Morrill.

St. Joe held a 2-0 lead until the eighth inning when Sedalia scored two runs to tie the game on back-to-back wild pitches from Mustangs’ reliever Jake Purl.

The game remained tied until the 10th inning when the Mustangs had runners on first and second with one out and Brady Anderson at the plate.  Anderson hit a ground ball to second base and Sedalia got the force out at second but the relay to first base wasn’t in time.  As the throw went to first, St. Joseph’s Davey Casciola rounded third and tried to score on the play.  Bombers’ catcher Robert Cummins couldn’t handle the throw home, which beat Casciola, and the Mustangs picked up a walk-off win.

Dixon Marble received a no-decision but threw well in his first start of the season.  He went seven scoreless innings and allowed only three hits.  Steve D’Amico earned the win in relief with a scoreless 10th inning.

Anderson had two of the four St. Joseph hits and he scored two of the three runs.

The Mustangs are back at home Friday night as they host Joplin in MINK League action.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs open 2016 season with 7-3 win over the Ban Johnson Raiders

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs opened their 2016 season with a 7-3 victory over the Ban Johnson Raiders Wednesday night at Phil Welch Stadium.

A record crowd came out to see St. Joe’s summer college baseball team as 4,493 fans were in attendance, a new opening night record.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when St. Joseph centerfielder Jacob Richardson had an RBI single and he later scored on a Davey Casciola base hit.

The Mustangs extended their lead in the fifth with three more runs, all unearned, as Trent Hill drove in two of them with a single.

St. Joe then took a 7-0 lead in the seventh inning as Dade Wheeler scored on a wild pitch and Hill came in on a fielder’s choice.

Miles Kilgore picked up the win as he went six innings and allowed just one hit.  He struck out three and walked five.  Jonathan Lynch and Logan Campbell each threw a scoreless inning of relief, but the Raiders scored their only runs in the ninth inning off of Colton Kenagy.

The Mustangs are back at home Thursday as they host Sedalia in their first MINK League game of the season.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.

Mustangs’ Weekly to air on ESPN 1550 starting Thursday

riggertMustangsST. JOSEPH, Mo. — As the St. Joseph Mustangs embark on their eighth season of baseball at Phil Welch Stadium, the team is reaching out to its fanbase in a new way this summer.

The Mustangs are teaming with Dave Riggert and ESPN 1550 for a new radio show: Mustangs Weekly presented by Precision Tune Auto Care.

The show will be held at noon each Thursday throughout the season at Uncle D’s Sports Bar & Grill, starting with a special preseason edition on May 26 from noon to 1pm. Rally, the team’s mascot, will be in attendance, and Mustangs’ starting pitcher Dixon Marble will also be signing autographs.

Each fan that attends the first show of the season on May 26 will receive two free general admission tickets good for any game, and Uncle D’s will feature a lunch special during the show.

“We thought this was a great chance to connect with our fanbase, and give them the opportunity to interact with our players, coaches and staff up close in an environment away from the stadium,” general manager Ky Turner said. “Plus, we have some great giveaways and Mustangs’ gear for our fans, so it’ll be a lot of fun each week.”

Mustangs Weekly will feature insight from Turner, the team’s manager Matt Johnson, Mustangs’ owner Dan Gerson, and various players throughout the season.

The show will also be streamed on UClickTV.com each week.

Mustangs extend special offer to teachers on opening night

riggertMustangsST. JOSEPH, Mo. — As the school year comes to a close and the baseball season fires up, the St. Joseph Mustangs are extending an offer to teachers throughout the area as a way of saying “thank you” for helping our youth.

The Mustangs will extend two free General Admission tickets to all St. Joseph and area school district principals, teachers, secretaries, custodians, and all other support staff that are responsible for educating and serving as role models for our children.

“We just want to show these people that do so much for our children that we appreciate everything they do,” Mustangs general manager Ky Turner said. “What better way to do that than with a relaxing night at the ballpark to kickoff the summer?”

For employees of the school district to receive their complimentary tickets, they simply need to present their school district identification on or before Opening Day, June 1, at Phil Welch Stadium. Each employee will receive two general admission tickets per ID.
