Mustangs game against North Kansas City postponed

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs had their second consecutive game postponed Thursday due to inclement weather as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team was schedule to play a non-league game against North Kansas City inside Phil Welch Stadium.

The game is rescheduled for Wednesday, July 8 in St. Joseph.

The Mustangs are off to a great start to the season as they sit at 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the MINK League.

St. Joseph is back at home Friday night as they host the only team to defeat them this season when they play a doubleheader against the Branson Nationals.  The first pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m. and both games will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs get back on track with 11-4 win at Joplin

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from their first loss of the season as they won Tuesday night at Joplin 11-4.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 6-1 and they’re 4-1 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs were tied 1-1 after the first inning before taking the lead for good with a three-run second inning.  St. Joseph added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and they scored three in the sixth inning and added two more runs in the seventh.

Orencio Fisher, Scott Braren and Francisco Alvarez had two hits each, while Jacob Richardson and Anthony Maselli added two RBI a piece.

Miles Gulley earned the win on the mound as he went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

The Mustangs close out their four-game road trip Wednesday at Clarinda.  The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. and it’ll be broadcast on ESPN 1550 and here at StJosephPost.com.

St. Joseph suffers first loss as they fall 7-4 to Branson

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season Monday night in Bolivar as they lost to the Branson Nationals 7-4.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 5-1 this season and 3-1 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Jacob Richardson, Kyle Richards and Trent Hill all drove in one run, but St. Joseph didn’t do much offensivley after that until the ninth inning.

Branson came back with seven unanswered runs as they scored one in the second inning, two in the third, three more runs in the sixth inning and they capped it off with a single run in the eighth.

St. Joe’s Scott Braren had a pinch-hit RBI double in the ninth to cap off the scoring.

Blake Kolons started for the Mustangs and received a no-decision.  He went 4.0 innings and allowed seven hits and three runs.  Tony Yacovetta suffered the loss in relief as he allowed three runs and three hits in two innings.

St. Joseph continues their four-game road trip Tuesday as they play at Joplin.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs stay perfect behind Marble’s complete-game shutout at Nevada

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs played their first road game of the season Sunday night and St. Joe’s summer college baseball team stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 shutout at Nevada.

The Mustangs improve to 5-0 and they’re 3-0 in the MINK League, while the Griffons fall to 1-2 and 0-2 in league play.

St. Joseph starter Dixon Marble was the story Sunday night as he threw a complete-game shutout and needed only 92 pitches to do so.  He allowed only four hits, while striking out five and not walking a batter.  Marble retired the last 17 batters he faced, had only two three-ball counts and he threw first pitch strikes to 25 of the 30 hitters he faced.

The Mustangs managed only four hits themselves, but they were able to produce single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to build an early lead.

Francisco Alvarez hit a solo home run, his second of the season, in the second inning to get the scoring starter.  Jackson Schnurbusch, who had two hits in the game, had an RBI single in the third and Patrick Dillon scored on a Nevada fielding error in the fourth inning.

The Mustangs are back on the road Monday as they play a doubleheader against the Branson Nationals in Bolivar.  The first pitch of game one is set for 5:00 p.m.

St. Joseph rallies for walk-off win against Nevada

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs stayed unbeaten on the season as they rallied for a 4-3 victory over Nevada Saturday night inside Phil Welch stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team fell behind 3-1 in the eighth inning before they started their comeback.  Ramsey Scott had a two-out RBI single in the eight to score Orencio Fisher but the Mustangs still trailed by one run in the final inning.

After Trent Hill flew out to left field, St. Joseph catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo home run to tie the game.

Humberto Medina came on in relief to throw a perfect 10th inning and then Fisher led off the bottom of the inning with a triple in the bottom of the ninth.  Anthony Maselli drove him in with a sacrifice fly and the Mustangs are now 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the MINK League.

Fisher and Alvarez each had two hits and two runs scored to lead the offense.

Trent Kinney started for St. Joe and received a no-decision as he went 7.0 innings and allowed just two runs on five hits.  He struck out four and walked two.

Mustangs win MINK League opener against Clarinda

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs stayed unbeaten on the season as they blanked the Clarinda A’s 7-0 in their MINK League opener Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team jumped out to a quick lead as they scored three runs in the first inning.  They added single runs in the third and fifth innings and scored two runs in the seventh.

Preston Felgate earned the win as he went 6.0 innings.  He allowed two hits, struck out eight batters and walked only one.

Blake Kolons, Austin Aspregren and Steve D’Amico each pitched a scoreless inning of relief as Mustangs pitchers have not allowed a run in they last 18 innings, and they’ve given up only four hits.

Anthony Maselli led St. Joseph’s eight-hit attack as he finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.  Evan McDonald had a hit and drove in two runs, while Orencio Fisher finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Mustangs improve to 3-0 and 1-0 in the MINK League as they host Nevada on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph uses seven-run sixth to cruise past Carroll 10-0

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs improved to 2-0 Thursday night as they defeated the Carroll (IA) Merchants 10-0 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 2-0 as they broke open a 1-0 game with a seven-run sixth inning against Carroll.

The Mustangs pounded out 12 hits in the game as Ramsey Scott and Josh Cassidy had three hits each.  Scott also drove in three runs, while Cassidy had two RBI and he scored twice.

Jacob Richardson and Scott Braren added two hits a piece, while Jackson Schnurbusch chpped in with two RBI.

Tanner Smith started the game and went five innings to earn the win.  He walked five batters but allowed just one hit.

Humberto Medina and Ross Juliana came on in relief and each threw two perfect innings as the three St. Joe pitchers combined on a one-hitter and retired the last 13 batters they faced.

The Mustangs are back at home Friday night as they host Clarinda in their first MINK League game of the season.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and it’ll air on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs open season with 7-4 win over Carroll

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs opened their 2015 season at home Wednesday night with a 7-4 victory over the Carroll (IA) Merchants.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team got a go-ahead two-out RBI infield single from centerfielder Jacob Richardson in the seventh inning that drove in Orencio Fisher and broke a 3-3 tie.

St. Joseph added three more runs in the eighth inning for insurance and they held on for the three-run victory.

The Mustangs led 2-0 after two innings and 3-1 after three, but Carroll came back to tie the game with a two-run fifth inning.

Ramsey Scott finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Richardson and Scott Braren had two hits each and Anthony Maselli drove in two runs.

Mitch Steinhoff started for St. Joe and received a no-decision as he lasted 5.2 innings and allowed four hits and three runs.  He struck out four and walked six batters.

Tony Yacovetta earned the win in relief as he went 1.1 innings and didn’t allow a run or a hit.

The Mustangs are back at home Thursday night as they host Carroll again at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

St. Joseph Mustangs open 2015 season Wednesday night

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs begin their seventh season Wednesday night as they host the Carroll (IA) Merchants at 7:00 PM inside Phil Welch Stadium.

The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here at StJosephPost.com.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is coming off a 41-18 season last year as they won their third MINK League championship and advanced to the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas for the fourth time in their first six years of existence.

The Mustangs bring back four position players (Evan McDonald, Kyle Richards, Josh Cassidy & Francisco Alvarez), six pitchers (Miles Gully, Dixon Marble, Blake Kolons, Tanner Smith, Trent Kinney & Austin Aspegren) and one that will both pitch and hit in Trent Hill.

There are also four St. Joseph natives on the roster as Dillon Mattice (Benton), Trevor Moeck (Central), Jonathan Zuptich (Bishop LeBlond) and Patrick Dillon (Bishop LeBlond) will play for the Mustangs this summer.

In the opener Wednesday against Carroll, left-handed pitcher Mitch Steinhoff will get the start on the mound as he was a redshirt this past season at Nebraska.

The rest of the starting lineup for Matt Johnson looks like this: Orencio Fisher LF (Missouri Western), Jacob Richardson CF (Barton CC), Evan McDonald 2B (Barton CC), Ramsey Scott 1B (Maple Woods), Scott Braren RF (Boston College), Francisco Alvarez (Arkansas State), Anthony Maselli 3B (Boston College), Josh Cassidy DH (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) and Jackson Schnurbusch SS (Central Missouri).

The Spooner Bandits from Spooner, Wisconsin are actually playing as the Carroll Merchants this season.  Spooner has secured an agreement to enter the MINK League officially in 2016 under the Carroll Merchants banner. The Bandits will play six games in Carroll in 2015, and the rest of their games on the road. Next year, the team will move to a full schedule in Carroll with an expected 22 homes games.

St. Joseph Mustangs announce 2015 promotions schedule

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs open play next month and after teasing a number of promotions through the St. Joseph Mustangs social media accounts, the full schedule of 2015 promotions has now been released by St. Joe’s summer college baseball team.

The upcoming promotional year features a slew of fireworks, charitable jersey auctions, giveaways, and character appearances. Mustang fans will also find some crowd favorites returning to the ball park this season.

Mustang fans will find Sluggerrr (mascot of the Kansas City Royals), KC Wolf (mascot of the Kansas City Chiefs), Minions, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, superheroes Captain America & Iron Man and other characters roaming Phil Welch this season. Giveaways include t-shirts and Christmas ornaments. Also scheduled for this year is a Date Night for Fathers & Daughters with a special on field fireworks viewing, Baby Crawling Race with free diapers and a Mustangs onesie as a prize, plus two weddings. The Mustangs will also celebrate the St. Joseph Fire Departments 150th anniversary with a special Mustangs jersey as well as free tickets for SJFD employees.

Mustangs General Manager Ky Turner said, “We’ve got a little bit of something for everyone this year. Not only do you get to see great baseball on the field, but there many opportunities to enjoy yourself and be part of a fun atmosphere. We are determined to continue to be one of the top family destinations in the area, and I think this promotional calendar reflects that.

The Mustangs begin play on May 27th, facing the Carroll (Iowa) Merchants. Gates will open at 5:30 pm, and first pitch is schedule for 7pm.
