Mustangs lose to Nevada, suffer two straight losses for first time this season

The St. Joseph Mustangs let an eighth inning lead slip away Saturday at Phil Welch Stadium, as St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team lost to Nevada 9-4.

The Mustangs fall to 14-9 and 12-8 in the MINK League. It’s the first time this season that St. Joseph has lost two straight games.

The Mustangs led 3-2 going into the eighth inning, but Nevada rallied for five runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth inning to pull away from the St. Joe

Jonathan Lynch suffered the loss in relief for The Mustangs as he gave up five runs (two earned) in 1.2 innings of work. Brennon Covington started and received a no-decision. He gave up two runs and six hits in 6 innings.

Alex Phillips and Zach Perdue had two hits each to lead St. Joseph, while Jordan Maxson had two RBI and Zach Smith drove in the other run.

The Mustangs are on the road Sunday as they play at Nevada at 7:00 p.m. inside Lyons Stadium.

St. Joseph falls at home to Ozark 6-1

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their series finale against Ozark Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium, as St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team fell to Generals 6-1.

The Mustangs, who swept a doubleheader from Ozark Thursday, drop to 14-8 and 12-7 in the MINK League.

Ozark built a 5-0 lead Friday as they scored one run in the first inning, three more in the third and they added one run in the fourth inning.

St. Joseph starter Matt Mulhearn lasted only three innings, as he allowed four runs and nine hits. Mulhearn is now 0-3 this season, but in those three losses the Mustangs’ offense has produced only two runs of support.

St. Joe’s only run came in the fifth inning as Mason Janvrin had an RBI single to score Zach Perdue. Malik Williams and Brody Santilli led the way with two hits each.

The Mustangs close out their six-game homestand Saturday as they host Nevada at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs sweep doubleheader against Ozark

The St. Joseph Mustangs swept a doubleheader against Ozark Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium, defeating the Generals 5-3 and 12-5.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team has now won five of their last six games as they improve to 14-7 and 12-6 in the MINK League.

In game one, the Mustangs scored four runs in the second inning and that turned out to be enough. Aaron Dees drove in three runs with a double in the second, while Joshua Lincoln, Alex Phillips and Daniel Covert added two hits each.

Mahlyk Davis earned the win as he allowed three runs and four hits in 4.2 innings of work, while Jonathan Lynch picked up a seven-out save.

In game two, St. Joseph trailed 3-2 going into the sixth inning but then exploded for four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, and they added two more in the eighth.

Terrence Spurlin hit two home runs and had three RBI, while Alex Phillips also homered and drove in two. Malik Williams and Jordan Maxon had three hits each for the Mustangs.

St. Joe and Ozark wrap up their three-game series tonight at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs let ninth inning lead slip away, lose to Chillicothe 5-4

The St. Joseph Mustangs had their three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday as they lost at home to Chillicothe 5-4 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 12-7 overall this season and 10-6 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs rallied from a 3-0 deficit Wednesday to take a 4-3 lead into the ninth inning, but the Mudcats scored two runs against St. Joseph closer Nick Houzenga and they held on for the win.

Joseph Hietpas received a no-decision for the Mustangs as he allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings of work.

Joshua Lincoln went 3-for-4 to lead St. Joe, while Terrence Spurlin and Mason Janvrin added two hits each. Spurlin hit his second home run of the season and he drove in two runs.

The Mustangs remain at home Thursday as they play a doubleheader against Ozark beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium. Both games will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ or you can click here to listen.

St. Joseph knocks off first-place Sedalia 6-4 Tuesday

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Tuesday as they defeated Sedalia 6-4 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 12-6 and they’re now 10-5 in the MINK League. With the win the Mustangs have pulled to within 1.5 games of the Bombers in the North Division

St. Joseph fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but then scored six unanswered runs over the next seven innings to take control of the game.

Ronnie Wigginton started for the Mustangs and earned the win. He allowed just two runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

Zach Smith had a big night offensively for St. Joe as he went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and one RBI. Smith also had three stolen bases. Mason Janvrin and Colton Eremian added two hits each.

The Mustangs remain at home Wednesday as they host Chillicothe at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs hang on to win at Jefferson City 9-8

The St. Joseph Mustangs picked up a road win Sunday as they hung on to defeat the Jefferson City Renegades 9-8 at Vivion Field.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball improves to 11-6 this season and 9-5 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs blew a 5-0 and a 7-2 lead as Jeff City rallied with one run in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth to tie the game 7-7. St. Joseph answered right back with two runs in the top of the ninth inning and then held on for the one-run victory.

The Mustangs hit three home runs on the night as Mason Janvrin, Colton Eremian and Terrence Spurlin each went deep for the first time this seaosn. All three of those guys, along with Daniel Covert, drove in two runs a piece.

Nick Houzenga earned the win in relief as he allowed one run and four hits in 1.1 innings of work. Corey Cowen started and threw well as he gave up just two runs and three hits in six innings.

The Mustangs have Monday off before returning home Tuesday for a matchup with the Sedalia Bombers at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs fall at home to Joplin Friday 5-1

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost at home to Joplin Friday night 5-1 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 9-6 and 7-5 in the MINK League. It’s the Mustangs first loss to the Outlaws in five games.

The Mustangs scored first Friday night as Terrence Spurlin drove in Malik Williams with an RBI single. That’s all St. Joseph would get as Joplin scored three in the fifth inning and added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings.

St. Joe starter Matt Mulhearn suffered the loss as he allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings of work.

Alex Phillips was the only Mustang with a mulit-hit game as he finished 2-for-4. St. Joseph had only seven hits in the game.

The Mustangs wrap up their three-game home series with Joplin Saturday at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph’s Kanallakan throws a complete game in 7-1 win over Joplin

The St. Joseph Mustangs stayed unbeaten against Joplin this season as they beat the Outlaws 7-1 Thursday inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 4-0 against Joplin and they’re 9-5 overall. The Mustangs are 7-4 in the MINK League, one and a half games back of Sedalia in the North Division.

St. Joseph starter Drake Kanallakan was the story Thursday as he threw a complete game and improves to 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA. Kanallakan allowed only one run on three hits and he struck out 10 batters.

Zach Perdue led the Mustangs’ 10-hit attack as he finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Zach Smith added two hits and two RBI, and Jordan Maxson drove in three runs.

The Mustangs and Outlaws play again Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium as the first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs let four-run lead slip away in 11-7 loss at Ozark

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost at Ozark Wednesday night 11-7, as St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 8-5 and 6-4 in the MINK League.

This was the Mustangs first game against the Generals since defeating Ozark in the MINK League Championship Series last season.

St. Joseph scored five runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead, but Ozark scored three in the fifth and took the lead for good with five runs in the seventh inning.

Mustangs’ starter Joseph Hietpas suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed nine runs and 13 hits in seven innings of work. Hietpas struck out six and walked one.

Alex Phillips and Aaron Dees each hit home runs for St. Joe. Phillips had three RBI, while Joshua Lincoln added two hits and Terrence Spurlin scored two runs.

The Mustangs return home Thursday as they play host to Joplin at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium. The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and you can click here to listen.

The St. Joseph Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning at Joplin Monday to break a 7-7 tie and they defeated the Outlaws 9-7.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 3-0 against Joplin this season as they’re 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs’ Alex Phillips singled to lead of the ninth inning, Malik Williams then doubled and Brady Garrison drove in both with a single to break the tie.

St. Joseph blew a 4-1 lead as the Outlaws scored five in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Mustangs scored two in the fifth to tie the game again before both teams scored one run a piece in the sixth.

Phillips led the Mustangs’ 16-hit attack as he finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Williams, Garrison and Terrence Spurlin added three hits each. Aaron Dees had two RBI for St. Joe.

Jake Purl made his first start of the season for the Mustangs as he allowed one run and five hits in three innings of work. Preston Bailey earned the win in relief with two scoreless innings and Nick Houzenga earned the save.

St. Joseph stays on the road Wednesday as they play at Ozark. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
