NASA’s new rover Curiosity carried out an amazing landing on Mars early Monday after traveling hundreds of millions of miles through space to explore the Red Planet.

The SUV-sized Curiosity made its dramatic arrival on Martian terrain in a spectacle known to its operators as the “seven minutes of terror.”

The off-beat troupe “Improv Everywhere” pulled about four thousand people into an epic water-gun battle, in a wild gathering on Governors Island in new York City.

Passersby were curious, and very entertained, as “Steve The Omnipotent Voice from Above” gave them some very specific, and entertaining instructions.

Baseball umpires are sensitive when it comes to blown calls. Daytona Cubs intern Derek Dye found that out the hard way. During a High-A game between Fort Myers and Daytona on Wednesday night, home plate umpire Mario Seneca ejected Dye when he played “Three Blind Mice” throughout the stadium following a questionable call.

The 88 member ‘Pearls of Russia’ women’s skydiving team has just successfully pulled off a white, blue and red flower formation jump in the skies over Kolomna near Moscow, setting a world record for women’s parachuting.

Their first two attempts were not successful, but the third time was a charm.

The previous world record was set by a German female team, which consisted of 84 members.

Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, died Monday at age 61 of pancreatic cancer.

Ride was an astrophysics PhD from Stanford. She flew aboard Space Shuttle Challenger in June 1983 on the STS-7 mission.

Ride took her place in history 20 years after the Soviet textile worker Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman into space in June 1963 in what is described by the Los Angeles Times as a space-race PR stunt.
