JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Missouri Senate has voted to lower the corporate tax rate from 6.25 percent to 3.5 percent.

The measure, approved Thursday in a 28-3 vote, would lower the corporate tax rate effective Jan. 1.

The bill also would restrict how corporations calculate their taxes, so that taxable income would only be based on a company’s sales within the state. Currently, some corporations can consider other factors when calculating their taxes.

Legislative researchers estimate the changes would result in about $10 million annually in new revenue for the state.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Sen. Andrew Koenig of Manchester, said his proposal would improve the state’s business climate.

The bill now heads to the House.

PETTIS COUNTY – A Missouri man died in an accident just before 11p.m. Thursday in Pettis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Dodge passenger vehicle driven by Timothy W. Callahan, 22, Green Ridge, was westbound on Highway B just west of Ragar Road.

The vehicle began to skid, traveled off the  right side of the road and struck a tree.

Callahan was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger Lindsey R. Breads, 22, La Monte, was flown to a hospital in Columbia in serious condition, according to the MSHP.

They were not wearing seat belts, according to the MSHP.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner agrees that Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens should resign.

Republican Rauner said Thursday he is “deeply troubled” by a Missouri House committee’s report of an allegation that Greitens coerced a woman into sex. He agrees with calls in Missouri that the Republican resign in “the best interest” of the state.

The report Wednesday included a woman’s claim that Greitens slapped and threatened her during sexual encounters in 2015. Greitens insists that the relationship was consensual and rejects allegations of violence but he has been indicted for invasion of privacy for allegedly blackmailing a woman with a photograph of her.

Greitens appeared in a Rauner re-election campaign ad last year. The ad was pulled in January after Greitens acknowledged he had been “unfaithful” in his marriage.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say a 27-year-old man has been charged in a triple homicide in a Kansas City, Kansas, duplex.

MonDale Douglas made his first appearance Monday on three counts of first-degree murder in the April 2 shooting deaths of 51-year-old Edward Rawlins, 46-year-old David Rawlins and 40-year-old Addrin Coats. A woman called police the next day after seeing one of the victim’s bodies lying near the front door of the duplex. Arriving officers found the other victims inside.

Douglas was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail on April 4 and is being held on $1 million bond. A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said he didn’t know whether Douglas had an attorney.

JOHNSON COUNTY — A Kansas man died in an accident just before 4p.m. Thursday in Johnson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Harley Davidson driven by Donald Attebery, 59, Shawnee, was northbound on Interstate 435. The driver lost control of the motorcycle as he took the exit for eastbound Shawnee Mission Parkway and left the road.

Attebery was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Frontier Forensics.

BURLINGTON –  A  Kansas man was sentenced Thursday to nearly 5 years in prison after pleading no contest to child sex crimes, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

Mathew Vander Linden, 29, of Burlington, pleaded no contest in December to two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and two counts of criminal sodomy.

Vander Linden was a Coffey County sheriff’s deputy. Prosecutors said he had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old in November 2016.

Judge Eric W. Godderz Thursday sentenced Vander Linden to 59 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Vander Linden is also subject to lifetime post-release supervision and sex offender registration.

BUCKLIN, Mo. (AP) – A Missouri man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for crashing into and killing a woman with a stolen pickup truck.

KTVO-TV reports that 19-year-old Jose “Joey” Montoya, of Bucklin, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree burglary and stealing.

Police say he stole the truck in June 2017 from a home in the small unincorporated Linn County town of New Boston. He then drove back to Bucklin about 15 miles away.

Police say he was driving recklessly when he struck 27-year-old Amanda Hepworth, of New Cambria, while she was in a residential yard. She was flown to a Columbia hospital, where she died two days later.

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — A man left partially paralyzed when gunfire erupted as he and three others were robbing a suburban Kansas City gun shop has been sentenced to life in prison for killing the shop’s owner.

De’Anthony Wiley, 23, won’t be eligible for parole for 25 years under the sentence ordered Thursday. He says he’s “deeply ashamed.”

He pleaded guilty in February to first-degree felony murder and other charges in the 2015 death of 44-year-old Jon Bieker.

The robbery of Bieker’s Shawnee, Kansas, gun store turned deadly when one of the robbers punched his wife. Bieker then emerged from a back room with a gun. Bieker was killed and three of the robbers wounded in the ensuing gunfight.

Wiley was the final robber sentenced to life imprisonment.
