Work continues on latest Traffic Box Art project

Warrior Woman
Warrior Woman

Artist Hanna Greenwell continues work on the new Traffic Box Art project at 6th and Edmond in downtown St Joseph. The artist based in St Louis is a 2015 graduate of Missouri Western State University.

Greenwell was selected after the Public Art committee reviewed multiple submissions. You can watch Hanna working on “Warrior Woman” for the rest of this week.

“We are lucky to get her,” said Allied Arts Council Executive Director Teresa Fankhauser. “She is in demand, in a week she flies to Hawaii to paint a mural!”

Greenwell is a graphic designer with a big heart and big dreams. She said she always loved to create but found herself drawn to it more and more once she got into college. “I finally made myself a graphic design major and fell in love with art all together. I love nature, recycling and helping the environment. My goal is to pursue sustainable design and help change the way the world designs,” said Greenwell. You can check out more of her art at her Web site here.

Ms Fankhauser is happy with this year’s selection. “ We have so many talented artists from the university I’m glad one was chosen for this year’s project.”

This year’s project is made possible by the Downtown St. Joseph Community Improvement District. According to Fankhauser, “Due to budget cuts we wouldn’t have been able to install traffic box artwork without the CID grant.”

(VIDEO) Cleveland fireworks tech booed after giving accidental display to Alex Rios

Doh accidental fireworksAn unintentional fireworks display greeted Alex Rios after his home run Tuesday night in Cleveland. TV cameras showed a distraught fireworks tech, hands, and hiding his head, after he accidentally triggered the display. That sort of thing is normally saved for home runs by the HOME team!

TV cameras caught the distraught fireworks technician with his hands clutching his head after his quick-trigger mistake, which prompted a chorus of boos from the small crowd.

“It was nice,” Rios joked about the unexpected explosion. “It’s the first time that’s happened to me in a road game. When I heard all the screams, it crossed my mind that they somehow called it foul. It shook me a little bit. It caught me off-guard. When I was rounding second, I heard people screaming and that’s when I thought something happened, but it’s all good.”

The Royals won 2-0.

Superintendent says Musser’s resignation will close the CFO position

Beau Musser
Beau Musser

Beau Musser could be the Saint Joseph School District’s last Chief Financial Officer.

Musser announced his resignation last week, saying private sector work is a better fit for his skillset.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Newhart says Musser’s departure will bring the CFO position to an end.

“I am positive the board will not bring back the CFO position,” Newhart said.

Newhart said Musser’s unexpected resignation creates a new opportunity to reorganize the administration.  He said he has asked staff to develop a job description for a Chief Administrative Officer who would oversee the departments of finance, operations, and human resources.

Newhart said the reorganization would improve efficiency and save taxpayer money.
