Albert “AJ” Boos, Sr.
1923-2015

After a courageous bout with cancer, Albert (AJ) Boos, Sr. passed peacefully into the Lord’s hands on October 24, 2015 at John Knox Village Hospice Care Center in Lee’s Summit.
AJ was born in Bendena, Kansas on November 10, 1923 to Albert and Adelia (Ennis) Boos.
He graduated from Benton High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy. He was a Radio Operator in the Air Corps and served in the Philippines Sea Frontier Communications Division. AJ was discharged from the Navy in October 1946 and he married Margaret (Doolan) Boos on November 20, 1946. They resided in Saint Joseph for many years where AJ began his career with Durwood Theaters (AMC). In 1969, A. J. transferred to Kansas City with Durwood. He and Margaret lived in Blue Springs for thirty happy years before their move to John Knox Village in 2007. AJ retired from AMC in 1989 as Corporate VP of Food and Concessions. During his 42 years with AMC he was also involved with the opening of their first multiplex theaters and the opening of AMC theaters in England.
He enjoyed old movies, dancing, playing card games, sports of all kinds (especially the Royals and the Chiefs), traveling and entertaining. AJ and Margaret spent a number of winters in Arizona during their retirement. He especially liked spending time with family, friends and neighbors and, of course, golfing. AJ was still playing 9 holes of golf at age 90. He will be remembered as a strong, loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather, and as a helpful and giving person who will be missed by all who have known and loved him.
AJ is survived by his son, Al (Carmella) Boos of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Angela Boos Jackson of Arlington, VA; grandson, Chad (Deena) Boos of Apex, NC; step-grandsons, Jon (Rebecca) Stanley of Flower Mound, TX and Joel (Dawn) Stanley of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Atkinson of Mesa, Arizona and Susie Evans of Saint Joseph; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; infant son, Michael; and sister, Barbara Cundiff.

Linda Sue Collier
1948-2015

Linda Sue Collier 66, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday October 27, 2015 at her home. She was born November 5, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of Jean & Ival Wheeler. She married James “Nick” Collier on February 9, 1980, in St. Joseph and they shared 35 together. She graduated from Central High School 1966, and worked at St. Joseph Convalescent Center as a Med Tech and Administrative Assistant.
She never met a stranger, she also loved Facebook, and camping at the Lewis & Clark Lake. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Lacy Lee Kretzer, brother, Billie Wheeler, and a sister, Judy Kuehner. Survivors include husband, Nick Collier of the home, three daughters, Kelly (Joe) Murphy, Jeannie (Phillip) Salcedo, Stacy (Tommy) Simpson, a son, Danny (Connie) Murphy all of St. Joseph, MO, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, two brothers, Roland and Elvis Wheeler of Seattle, WA, and three sisters, Lona Fuston, Sheila Culver, and Jody Wheeler of St. Joseph, MO. niece, Diane Kuehner, as well as several other nieces and nephews, A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday at the Rupp Chapel, the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Sheila Faye Jamison
1953-2015

Sheila Faye Jamison, 62, of St. Joseph, Missouri died peacefully in her home on October 24, 2015.
Born October 20, 1953 in Atoka, Oklahoma.
She is predeceased by her parents, William Jamison and Cora (Penick) Lansdale; her life partner of 22 years, Sherry Kendall; brothers, Billy Joe Jamison and Tommy Lansdale; and sister, Cheryl Jamison.
Survivors include her two sons, Derrick (Angela) Jamison of Fairfax, VA and Bryan (Beth) Bail of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Natalie, Abby, and Noah Jamison and Jesse Bail; brothers, Doug (Sharon) Lansdale and Corey (Kara) Lansdale; numerous nieces and nephews.

James B. Shannon
1939-2015

James B. Shannon, 76, Edgerton, Missouri passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born August 25, 1939 in Gentry, Missouri.
James married Wilma Lou Miller in November 1980. She survives of the home.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served on the S.S. Cass and was stationed at the US Naval Station in Long Beach, California.
James worked at Nestle-Carnation as a laborer where he retired after 30 + years. He was a modern day cowboy and adored his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Zona May (Murphy) Shannon; son, Steven Shannon; and step-brother, Ralph Wilson.
Additional Survivors include children, Rhonda Abbate, Missouri, Russell Middaugh, Colorado, Candy Wiley, Missouri, Carla Hamilton, Missouri, Patrick Shannon, St. Joseph, Missouri and Jimmy Shannon, Jr., Cameron, Missouri; two sisters, Rosalee Pigg, St. Joseph, Missouri and Minola Hise, King City, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald L. Duty
1943-2015

Gerald L. Duty, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at his home with his family at his bedside.
Gerald was born June 19, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to Clifton L. and Katherine (Hawkins) Duty.
He was a 1961 graduate of Lafayette High School then attended St. Joseph Junior College, and then he graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1968.
After graduation, he taught for the St. Joseph School District for eight years. During that time, he coached football and wrestling at Lafayette. In May 1976, Gerald became the executive director of the St. Joseph Safety & Health Council; he was the third person to hold the title since the Council’s inception in 1935. While Executive Director, Gerald trained, consulted, and lectured for a wide variety of businesses and community organizations, including Crime Stoppers, The Juvenile Justice Coalition, The Buchanan County Sexual Assault Task Force, The Family Violence Council, The Buchanan County Emergency Planning Committee, The American Red Cross, The Community Drug Council, The Northwest Missouri Child Advocacy Center, Specialty Industries, Farm Safety Day, The Youth Alliance, Boy Scouts of America, and The United Way of Greater St. Joseph. He provided long-range planning and board training locally, and for groups and organizations throughout the United States.
Gerald held Advanced Safety Certification from the National Safety Council (NSC) and held various leadership positions with the NSC, Missouri Safety & Health Council (MSHC), Industrial Hygiene Environmental Conference & Exposition Planning Committee for the MSHC, and the Missouri Injury Control Advisory Committee. In 1978, Gerald was the leader of a committee to provide a positive impact on youth between ages 5 to 7. From this committee came the well-known child activity, Safety Town. He also participated in Kids in Safety Seats and Bicycle Safety Rodeo. Additionally, he presented docu-dramas to high school students involving alcohol related crash simulations. After 34 years of devoted service to the St. Joseph Safety & Health Council, Gerald retired in 2010.
Gerald was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and lover of nature. He shared many hunting trips with his family and friends. He canoed and camped to the Boundary Waters and other parts of Canada, Alaska, areas of the Pacific Ocean, and local rivers — especially the Missouri River. He loved traveling to the western areas of the United States, and he especially loved the Teton Mountains.
Gerald held a third-degree black belt in Kodokan Judo. He was a master-level combat pistol and police pistol competition shooter. He also held a Special Deputy Sherriff commission for several years with the Buchanan County Sherriff’s Department.
Gerald was past president of Rotary Club # 32 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a supporter of Ducks Unlimited and The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Eileen, of the home; 2 stepsons, Robert W. Nash (Jane), St. Joseph, Missouri, and Michael A. Nash (Erin), Kansas City, Missouri; and one grandson, Alex Nash. Gerald loved watching Alex grow up. He is also survived by his “Brothers”—best friends Jim Joy, Dutch Thomas, and Rick Beaulieu.

Daniel W. “Dan” Duncan
1928-2015

Daniel W. “Dan” Duncan, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri.
He was born July 3, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dan married Inez Windmeyer, daughter of the late Martin and Nellie Windmeyer of Highland, Kansas, on June 1, 1957.
Dan moved with his parents to St. Joseph where the family established the Iowa-Missouri Walnut Company. He held various executive roles at the company throughout his 40 year career.
Mr. Duncan graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri, and attended the University of West Virginia and the University of Missouri, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Battalion Liaison Officer, earning the Army Occupation Medal in Germany after World War II.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing and being active in the St. Joseph community. Mr. Duncan was appointed by Governor Kit Bond to the Missouri Highway Commission in 1973. He was a former president of the St. Joseph Country Club, former Chairman of the Kansas City Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization, and former member of the Benton Club and Kansas City River Club. He was an active parishioner and volunteer at the St. Joseph Cathedral.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Vance and Elizabeth Regan Duncan; his sister, Elizabeth Joan Duncan; and his brother, Jack Calvin Duncan.
Survivors include his wife, Inez; daughter, Julia Danelle Duncan; two sons, Robert Vance Duncan (Annette) of Lubbock, Texas and Drue W. Duncan (Elizabeth) of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Travis Wegenka, of St. Joseph, Missouri and Margaret “Meg” and Elizabeth “Libby” Duncan, of Columbia, Missouri.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, at the St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Interment following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Harvey Carl Shapley
1929-2015

Harvey Carl Shapley passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015. He was born July 18, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas. His parents were Orville F. and Ethyl Florence (Bain) Shapley.
He graduated from high school in Yates Center, Kansas. He proudly served in the Korean War. He completed a four year apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Railroad in Wichita, Kansas. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 35 years of service. He played in the Wichita Santa Fe Shop golf and baseball teams. He enjoyed a lifetime membership in the Masonic 303 Albert Pike Lodge, Wichita, Kansas.
Harvey married Glenda Williams in 1957 in the Friends Faith. They were to enjoy 58 years of marriage. She resides in the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Geraldine Stephens and Mildred L. Ramey; and step-son, Terry L. Williams.
Harvey is also survived by his stepson, Michael D. (Carol) Williams; three grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Bloom, Sarah (Johann Murray), and Dr. John Williams; two great-grandchildren, Jaina Murray and Elizabeth Bloom.

Sandra Ann (Glauser) Wolfing, 75, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born September 2, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Sandra graduated from Central High School, Class of 1958 and attended St. Joseph Junior College.
She married Roger Wayne Wolfing on January 22, 1964 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2014.
Sandy was the office manager at Midland Steel for 35 years, retiring in 2012. Prior to that she worked at St. Joseph Tobacco Co & Stuppy’s Greenhouse.
Sandy was a member of the Swiss Lodge Edelweiss Society and she enjoyed social card groups and activities with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Martha (Mossimann) Glauser; husband of 51 years, Roger Wayne Wolfing; brothers, Erwin Glauser and Ernest Glauser, Jr.; and cousin, Robert “Red” Glauser.
Survivors include son, Bradley T. Wolfing and wife, Tetiana, St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Audrey G. Wolfing, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; sister, Rhodie (Glauser) Schottel; newphews, Greg Glauser, Steve Schottel and Ty Glauser; niece, Stephanie Andrews; cousin, John Ludy, Cumberland, Wisconsin and numerous cousins and relatives in Switzerland and the United States.
