High fire danger today due to hot and windy conditions

Avoid outdoor burning today. Dry vegetation, low relative humidity, and gusty winds will lead to high fire danger across the area today, especially in northeast KS and northwest MO. Tomorrow, there’s a chance for a few storms in eastern KS and far western MO, but the better storm chances will be at the beginning of next week. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Temps to return to the 90s

Despite the recent cooler weather, it is still Summer and August has arrived to make sure no one forgets. While this morning’s cool temperatures will range from upper 50s to low 60s, today’s highs will reach the mid 80s. The next several days will see temperatures rise to highs near 90 and lows warming to the low 70s. Summer heat makes a comeback late in the week! It is going to feel a bit more like early Fall to end the week. Cooler temperatures will move into the area today with a chance for showers and a few thunderstorms this morning for the KC Metro and areas south of the Missouri River. A few strong to perhaps an isolated severe storms will be possible across northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri this evening. The main threat with these storms will be for strong gusty winds to perhaps an isolated damaging wind gust. Normal temperatures are expected the next couple days with highs in the upper 80s to right around 90 but, with low humidity it should still feel pretty comfortable. Temperatures in the 80s this week

The first part of the week will be seasonal and dry with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 60s. The later half of the week the pattern will start to become more active with multiple rain chance and cooler than average temperatures leading into the weekend. There is still some uncertainty in getting the precipitation Thursday and Friday keeping the chances below 40% for much of the area.
