Cold temperatures, and a breezy north wind, will make wind chill values this morning a bit cold; and with temperatures this afternoon only expected to top out in the low 30s ice from Tuesday is not expected to melt much, unless the sun comes out from behind the clouds. Another round of winter weather is expected to move into the area this evening, starting a few hours after sunset with the bulk of precipitation falling after midnight, through Thursday morning. The highest snowfall/sleet totals will be near the Iowa border, with around an inch possible. Farther south not as much sleet or snow is expected, but with ice already on many surfaces and trees, it may not take much to start causing issues by early Thursday morning. Temperatures will warm during the day Thursday. Temperatures will remain nearly steady overnight as a front stalls southeast of Kansas City, meaning that currently below-freezing temperatures are not expected to recover before the next batch of rain moves in during the early morning hours. Road temperatures will also fall, allowing untreated roads and elevated surfaces to become very slick and making travel hazardous in the Advisory area as freezing rain falls. Ice accumulations up to a few tenths of an inch are expected in the Winter Weather Advisory area. Drizzle, and a few thunderstorms, spread north into Missouri and eastern Kansas overnight as the strong and gusty south wind brought moisture north from the Gulf. These same southerly winds will help lift temperatures well above normal for most of Missouri and eastern Kansas today, also helping to keep scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms percolating across the region today. But, tonight a cold front will settle into the far northwest corner of Missouri, which will result in accumulating freezing rain across far northwest Missouri and northern Kansas overnight into Tuesday. Accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch of ice will be possible in the advisory area tonight. Highs today are going to be about 30 degrees colder than yesterday, but today is the coldest day of the weekend. Temps will steadily climb back to the upper 60s by Monday. We also have some precipitation chances, with the first opportunity arriving Saturday morning for areas east of I-35. Precipitation may start off as snow, then change will over to rain by late morning. Another round of rain is likely Sunday night through Monday.
