Temperatures near 60 today and tomorrow

Enjoy the next two days as highs climb into the 50s and 60s today with some areas seeing 70s on Thursday. This nice warm up will abruptly end Friday as highs fall back into the 20s and 30s. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Temperatures could reach 60 by Wednesday

Temperatures will be on the increase this week with low 60s expected by Wednesday. Rain chances will then return on Thursday as the next weather system impacts our area. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Snow expected over the weekend

Wintry weather will return to the area this weekend, coming in several rounds. Late this afternoon through the overnight, light snow will develop across northern MO and northeastern KS. A dusting to 1” is possible with this round. South of the river, freezing drizzle is expected to develop overnight. During the day Saturday, precipitation will decrease in coverage and intensity. Spotty freezing drizzle is possible south of I-70 with light snow or flurries elsewhere. Little or no accumulation is expected during the day Saturday. Then the main round of snowfall comes Saturday night. 1-2” of snow is possible north of I-70 with an inch or less south of the river. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Warmer today with temps in the 40s

Today will feel much warmer than it has in a while with high temperatures reaching into the upper 40s south of the Missouri River and upper 30s to lower 40s to the north. This warm up will be brief as a cold front will push into the region Friday creating quite the temperature difference between central and northern Missouri with upper 40s to the south and lower 20s to the north. Some light mixed precipitation is possible on the colder side of the front possibly creating a driving hazard in that region Friday. This front will push through our area Friday night dropping temperatures throughout the area into the teens and lower 20s. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Temps in the 20s today, warmer tomorrow

This morning will start off chilly with low temperatures in the single digits and wind chill values below zero across the area. Temperatures will warm up to near freezing today but winds will keep it feeling like the teens to lower 20s. A warm up will occur Thursday afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 40s to possibly the lower 50s south of HWY 50. A cold front will return to the area Friday afternoon splitting the area up with high temps in the 20s north of the MO River and in the 40s south of the Missouri River. Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon to midnight

Winter weather is expected to move into the area this afternoon, mainly north of the Missouri River. The system will arrive in two different waves, the first being just after noon north of the Missouri River, and the second being after sunset. The main bulk of accumulating snow will remain north of the Missouri River with the highest totals expected from St. Joseph to Kirksville. Interstate 35 could have significant impacts after noon with visibility dropping below 1 mile at times with periods of heavy snowfall and possible snow covered roads. The KC metro may see some light snow around noon briefly with the main chances being after 6-7 p.m. as the tail end of the system pushes through. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Two rounds of snow remain in the forecast: the first near the IA/MO border this afternoon and evening; and the second Tuesday afternoon and evening across the majority of the area. The track of the second system is still shifting around, and is starting to pull further to the north. In case a reminder is needed, it’s still winter, and the area could see some minor accumulating snow arriving on Sunday. A strong cold front will drop temperatures quickly later this morning. Temperatures won’t move much through the day staying in the mid to upper 20s before falling back into the teens tonight. Winds will also be fairly strong out of the north today making for wind chills in the teens.
