Scott’s three-run, walk-off HR rallies Mustangs past Nevada

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium and they were able to defeat the Nevada Griffons 7-6.

Mustangs’ first baseman Ramsey Scott hit a walk-off, three-run home run to right field with two outs to send St. Joe to it’s fourth consecutive win and their second walk-off win of the season.

St. Joseph’s summer college baseball team is now 32-13 this season and 25-12 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs also increased their lead in the North Division to two games as Sedalia lost to Chillicothe Friday 6-3.

St. Joe led 2-0 after two innings and 3-1 after six before Nevada scored four runs in the seventh to take a two-run lead.  The two teams traded runs before Scott’s heroics in the ninth inning.

Jackson Schnurbusch walked to lead off the ninth, Orencio Fisher popped up on the infield, Jacob Richardson drew a walk and then Trent Hill flew out to center for the second out.

Scott hit the first pitch he saw off of Ray Hutchinson for his fifth home run of the season.  He drove in four runs in the game and leads the MINK League with 33 RBI this season.

No one else had a multi-hit game for St. Joseph but Richardson and Schnurbusch each scored two runs, while Fisher and Scott Braren had one RBI each.

Steve D’Amico picked up the win in relief as he allowed one run in the ninth inning.  Preston Felgate made the start for the Mustangs as he allowed just one run and two hits in six innings of work.

St. Joe plays host to Joplin on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs race out to early lead, defeat Springfield 12-2

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Thursday night as they defeated the Springfield Arrows 12-2 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

This was the final non-league game for St. Joe’s summer college baseball team as they improve to 31-13 this season.

The Mustangs raced out to a big lead early as they scored two runs in each of the first two innings and added four more in the third to take an 8-0 lead.

St. Joseph eventually led 12-0 before Springfield scored two runs in the seventh inning.

Mitch Steinhoff earned the win to improve to 2-2 this summer as he allowed one earned run and four hits in 6.1 innings of work.  He struck out nine and walked three batters.

Jordan Powell was one of three Mustangs with a two-hit game as he finished 2-for-4 with a career-high four RBI and two runs scored.

Orencio Fisher and Josh Cassidy added two hits each, while Fisher scored twice and Cassidy scored three runs.  Evan McDonald added two RBI.

St. Joe got some help from Ozark on Thursday as they defeated Sedalia 9-7.  The Mustangs lead in the North Division is back to one game over the Bombers.

St. Joseph is back in MINK League play Friday as they host Nevada at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph scores six in the ninth to put away Clarinda

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs picked up their second consecutive victory as they won at Clarinda Wednesday night, 9-2.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 30-13 and 24-12 in the MINK League.

The umpires called the game in the top of the ninth inning with two outs as there was rain and lightning in Clarinda.  The Mustangs broke open a 3-2 game in the ninth as they scored six runs before the rain came.

St. Joseph scored an unearned run in the first inning and added two more in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie before putting the game away in the ninth.

Mustangs’ starter Dixon Marble improves to 5-1 as he allowed one earned run and five hits in 7.1 innings of work.  He struck out six and walked one.

Jerry Houston led St. Joe’s 15-hit attack as he finished 3-for-6 with one RBI and one run scored.  Jacob Richardson, Trent Hill, Scott Braren and Tony Maselli added two hits each, while Jackson Schnurbusch had two RBI.

The Mustangs remain atop the North Division, but their lead is down to a 1/2 game as Sedalia swept a doubleheader against Joplin Wednesday.

St. Joseph gets non-league win over KC Monarchs 8-1

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs returned to Phil Welch Stadium Tuesday night and they picked up a non-league win against the Kansas City Monarchs 8-1.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 29-13 and they remain 23-12 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs lead in the North Division is down to one game now as Sedalia swept a doubleheader against Branson Tuesday.

St. Jospeh jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fith inning as they had leadoff doubles in three consecutive innings.  That led to one run in the third, three more in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.

The Monarchs committed five errors in the game to help the Mustangs as they scored five unearned runs.

Blake Kolons earned the win to improve to 4-0 as he allowed just one run and one hit in six innings of work.  He struck out seven but did walk five batters in the game.

Evan McDonald led the St. Joe offense as he went 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored, one RBI and two stolen bases.

Tony Maselli and Trent Hill each had one hit and one RBI, while Jordan Powell and Patrick Dillon scored two runs each.

The Mustangs are back in league play Wednesday as they’re on the road at Clarinda.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs stymied by Sedalia again on Sunday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs still can’t find a way to beat Sedalia this season as St. Joe’s summer college baseball traveled to Sedalia Sunday and lost to the Bombers 6-1.

The Mustangs are 28-13 this season and 23-12 in the MINK League, but they fall to 0-4 against Sedalia this season.  With the loss, St. Joseph’s lead in the North Division is down to two games with just under two weeks left in the regular season.

Sedalia scored two unearned runs in the opening frame to take the lead and then Jonathon Ramon hit his MINK League-leading eighth home run of the season in the third inning to give the Bombers a 4-0 lead and that was more than enough for starting pitcher Justin Murphy.

Murphy is now 5-0 this season and 2-0 against St. Joe as he allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings of work.

Logan Jacik suffered the loss for the Mustangs as he falls to 1-3 this summer.  He gave up four runs and five hits in just four inning.  He struck out three and walked four batters.

Jackson Schnurbusch and Jacob Richardson had two hits each, while Richardson drove in the only run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to score Schnurbusch.

The Mustangs are off on Monday and they return to Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph Tuesday for a non-league game against the Kansas City Monarchs at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs sweep doubleheader against Branson

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from a loss to Chillicothe as they swept a doubleheader against the Branson Nationals Saturday inside Phil Welch Stadium, 11-4 and 5-0.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 28-12 and 23-11 in the MINK League.  The Mustangs have a three-game lead on the Sedalia Bombers in the North standings and they travel to Sedalia on Sunday.

In game one, St. Joseph broke up a 5-4 game in the sixth inning as they pulled away from Branson with two runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh inning.

Orencio Fisher finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Trent Hill, Ramsey Scott, Jerry Houston and Jackson Schnurbusch had two hits each.

Schnurbusch and Scott each had two RBI.

Miles Gully earned the win as he allowed four runs and six hits in five innings of work.  He’s now 4-1 this summer.

In game two, Trent Kinney and two relievers held the Nationals to three hits and earned the seventh shutout of the season for St. Joe.

Kinney is also 4-1 this summer as he went 6.2 innings and allowed just three hits.  Humberto Medina and Steve D’Amico then struck out the four batters they faced.

Trent Hill and Trevor Moeck each had two hits in the second game, while Moeck, Evan McDonald, Francisco Alvarez and Kyle Richards had one RBI each.

The Mustangs play at Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. Sunday and the game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs fall to Chillicothe Friday 7-1

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs were back at home Friday night inside Phil Welch Stadium, but St. Joe’s summer college baseball team had its two-game winning streak snapped as they lost to Chillicothe 7-1.

The Mustangs fall to 26-12 this season and 21-11 in the MINK League.

The Mudcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and eventually led 4-0 before St. Joseph scored its only run in the fifth inning.

Kyle Richards doubled with one out in the fifth and then Jackson Schnurbusch drove him in with a single.

The Mustangs had only six hits in the game as Richards went 2-for-4.  Jacob Richardson added a double for St. Joe.

Mustangs’ starter Preston Felgate entered the game with a 0.30 ERA but he suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.  Felgate drops to 4-2 this summer.

St. Joseph is back at home Saturday as they play a doubleheader against Branson.  Game one will start at 3:00 p.m. and the second game will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Game two will air on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

South defeats North 4-1 in inaugural MINK League All-Star game

riggertMustangsThe first-ever MINK League All-Star game took place Thursday night inside Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph and the South All-Stars defeated the North 4-1.

The South squad scored all four runs in the fourth inning as Branson’s Nelson Mompierre drove in two runs with a single, Nevada’s Taylor Walker had an RBI ground out and Branson’s Garrett Mays had a two-out RBI single.

Chillicothe’s Robert Beltran suffered the loss as he allowed all four runs in the fourth inning.

Two St. Joseph Mustangs’ helped the North All-Stars get their only run in the eighth.  Josh Cassidy led off the inning with a walk and eventually scored on a ground out by St. Joe’s Trent Hill.

Earlier in the day, Ozark’s Andrew Kendrick won the home run derby as he defeated Chase Hamilton from Clarinda in the final round 1-0.

The St. Joseph Mustangs are at home Friday night as they host Chillicothe as 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs get non-league win over North Kansas City 6-2

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game Wednesday night as they defeated North Kansas City 6-2 in a non-league game inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball is now 26-11 this season and they remain 21-10 in the MINK League.

North Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Mustangs answered right back as they put up four runs in the bottom of the first.

Neither offense did much after that as St. Joseph scored single runs in the fourth and eighth innings, and North Kansas City didn’t score until the ninth.

Mitch Steinhoff earned the win for the Mustangs as he allowed one unearned run and four hits in seven innings of work.  He struck out six and walked two.

Kyle Richards and Trevor Moeck each had two hits and one RBI to lead St. Joe, while Richards scored two runs in the game.

The Mustangs have a day off Thursday as the inaugural MINK League All-Star game will take place inside Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph.  Nine Mustangs will take part in the game as the first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.  There will also be a home run derby that will take place before that around 5:20 p.m.

St. Joseph snaps two-game skid with blowout win at Joplin

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs snapped their two-game losing streak Tuesday night as they won at Joplin 14-1.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 25-11 and 21-10 in the MINK League.

The Outlaws took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but it was all Mustangs after that.

They tied the game in the third, added three runs in the fourth inning, two in the sixth and they broke it open late with eight runs in the final two innings.

Jordan Powell and Francisco Alvarez led St. Joseph’s 19-hit attack as they each went 3-for-4.  Orencio Fisher, Jacob Richardson, Scott Braren, Tony Maselli and Jackson  Schnurbusch added two hits each.

Schnurbusch drove in four runs for the Mustangs, while Powell added three RBI.

Dixon Marble earned the win as he allowed just one run on five hits in eight innings of work.  He struck out four and walked two as he improves to 4-1 this summer.

St. Joe returns home Wednesday night as they host North Kansas City in a non-league game at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
