Nine Mustangs selected to MINK League All-Star Game

MINKThe St. Joseph Mustangs will be well represented in the inaugural MINK League All-Star Game this Thursday inside Phil Welch Stadium as nine members of St. Joe’s summer college baseball team have been selected to the North roster.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez, first baseman Ramsey Scott, third baseman Josh Cassidy, Outfielders Jacob Richardson and Orencio Fisher, designated hitter Trent Hill and pitchers Preston Felgate, Austin Aspegren and Steve D’Amico.

The Mustangs have the most of any North or South team as each roster will consist of 30 players.

There will be a home run derby that begins at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday and the All-Star game will take place around 7:15 p.m.

Each team got to choose one player to compete in the home run derby and St. Joseph’s Trent Hill will represent the Mustangs.

The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs let three-run lead slip away, lose at Clarinda Sunday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs lost their second consecutive game Sunday night as they fell at Clarinda 8-6.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 24-11 this season and 20-10 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs blew a 6-3 lead Sunday night as they fell behind early 2-0 and 3-2 before scoring four in the third inning to take the three-run lead.

Clarinda’s bullpen then shutdown the St. Joseph offense as they had just one hit and three baserunners after the third inning.

The A’s tied the game with three runs in the fifth and then added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to finish off the scoring.

Kyle Richards was the Mustangs’ offense as he had a two-run home run in the second inning and a two-run double in the third.  He finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Trent Hill added two hits, while Brett Bond scored two runs.

Logan Jacik suffered the loss as the St. Joe starter allowed seven runs and seven hits in 6.1 inninngs of work.  He struck out three and walked three as he falls to 1-2 this summer.

The Mustangs are back at home Monday for a makeup up game with Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.  St. Joseph has a two-game lead on the Bombers in the North Division, but they’re 0-3 this summer against Sedalia.

St. Joseph remains winless against Sedalia after 3-0 loss Saturday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs had their three-game winning streak snapped Saturday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they lost to Sedalia 3-0.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 24-10 this season and 20-9 in the MINK League.  They’re .500 or better against every other league opponent this season except the Bombers, as the Mustangs fall to 0-3 vs. Sedalia.

The Bombers got single runs in the first, third and eighth innings and that was more than enough for starting pitcher Sam Perez.

Perez, who plays at Missouri State, through eight scoreless innings and allowed just four hits.  He struck out 12 and walked only two.

Preston Felgate suffered his first loss of the season for St. Joseph as he allowed one earned run and five hits in six innings of work.  He struck out four and walked two.

The Mustangs got singles from Jerry Houston, Josh Cassidy, Scott Braren and Trent Hill.  They had just seven base runners but St. Joe went 0-for-3 on stolen base attempts.

The Mustangs are on the road Sunday as they play at Clarinda.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs hammer Ban Johnson All-Stars 9-2 for third straight win

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they defeated the Ban Johnson League All-Stars 9-2.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 24-9 this summer and they remain 20-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped all over the All-Stars from one of the summer college league based in Kansas City as they scored four runs in the first inning, three more in the second and a single run in the third inning.

Tony Maselli hit a two-run home run in the opening inning and then Scott Braren and Kyle Richards each had RBI singles.

Richards added two more RBI in the second inning with a single, and Ramsey Scott drove in a run as well.

Richards finished the night for St. Joseph 3-for-4 with three RBI.  Trent Hill added three hits and he drove in two runs, while Braren and Scott added two hits each.

Mustangs’ starter Trent Kinney earned the win as he allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings of work.  He struck out five and walked one.

St. Joe gets back to MINK League play Saturday night as they host Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph uses five-run sixth inning to take down Clarinda

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game as they defeated Clarinda 7-3 Thursday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 23-9 this season and 20-8 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead as Josh Cassidy hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning and they added an unearned run in the third.

Clarinda tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but St. Joseph answered right back with a five-run bottom half of the sixth inning.

Jackson Schnurbusch hit a two-run double in the sixth and Jacob Richardson capped it off with his first home run that also scored two runs.

Humberto Medina earned the win in relief as he threw 1.1 scoreless innings.  Miles Gully started for the Mustangs and he allowed two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work.

Jordan Powell had three hits to lead St. Joe, while Richardson and Brett Bond each had two.

The Mustangs are back at home Friday night as they play a group of All-Stars from the Ban Johnson League in Kansas City.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Marble, Harper throw combined one-hitter in Mustangs 12-0 win over Nevada

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs rolled to an easy win Wednesday night at Phil Welch Stadium as they shutout the Nevada Griffons 12-0.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 22-9 and 19-8 in the MINK League.

Dixon Marble threw a gem as the Mustangs’ starter allowed only one hit in eight innings as he improves to 3-1 on the summer.  Marble struck out four and walked two.  Jake Harper threw a perfect ninth inning to finished off the combined one-hitter.

St. Joseph gave Marble a huge cushion early as they scored six runs in the first inning.  They added a single run in the second and added five more in the sixth inning.

Ramsey Scott hit his third home run of the season and drove in three runs, Kyle Richards added two runs and two RBI, while Jerry Houston and Scott Braren had two hits each.

The Mustangs are at home again Thursday night as they host Clarinda inside Phil Welch Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph splits doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday night, winning game one 4-2 before falling in the second game 5-2.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 21-9 this season and 18-8 in the MINK League.

In the opener, the Mustangs took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as Jackson Schnurbusch had an RBI triple, Jacob Richardson drove in a run with a single and Ramsey Scott hit an double that knocked in a run.

Scott Braren added a solo home run in the fourth inning, his second of the summer, and St. Joseph held on for the win.

Blake Kolons got a spot start and threw his second consecutive seven-inning complete game.  He allowed just two runs on four hits.

In game two, the Mustangs fell behind 2-0 and never could catch up.  They pulled to within 2-1 in the fifth inning but that was as close as they’d get.

St. Joe only had five hits, while Schnurbusch and Trent Hill each had one RBI.

Dalton Gulick made his first start of the season for the Mustangs and he suffered the loss as he gave up five runs and seven hits in 5.0 innings.

St. Joseph returns home Wednesday as they host Nevada inside Phil Welch Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs to play day/night doubleheader on July 11

riggertMustangsFor the first time in St. Joseph Mustangs history, St. Joe’s summer college baseball team will play a day/night doubleheader.

The doubleheader with take place at Phil Welch Stadium against the Branson National on Saturday, July 11th.  The first game will begin at 3:00 p.m. and the second will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Both games will be seven innings games.

In between games, the Mustangs will host two weddings and all fans will be invited to dance on the field during the Mosaic Lifecare Fireworks Spectacular during the “Wedding Reception.”

The Mustangs will were an exclusive St. Joseph Fire Department 150th Anniversary jersey during the second game, and all jerseys will be put up for auction during the game.  All proceeds will go to the SJFD.

St. Jospeh Fire Department employees will receive two free general admission tickets with ID for the July 11th games and one ticket will get fans into both games.

Mustangs fall at Joplin for second consecutive loss

Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 12.33.44 AMThe St. Joseph Mustangs lost their second consecutive game Sunday night as they fell at Joplin 5-0.

It’s the first time St. Joe’s summer college baseball team has been shutout this season and just the second time they’ve lost two straight games.  The Mustangs drop to 20-8 overall and 17-7 in the MINK League.

St. Joseph only had five hits in the game and seven total baserunners.  They got singles from Jerry Houston, Ramsey Scott, Trent Hill, Francisco Alvarez and Tony Maselli.

The Outlaws scored single runs in five of the eight innings they hit in and they pounded out 10 hits in the game.

Logan Jacik suffered the loss as he falls to 1-1 this summer for the Mustangs.  He allowed three runs and six hits in five innings of work.

St. Joseph is off Monday before playing a doubleheader at Chillicothe on Tuesday.  The first pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m.

Mustangs drop non-league game against Midwest A’s

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs lost a non-league game to the Midwest A’s Saturday night inside Phil Welch Stadium, 7-4.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 20-7 this season and they remain 17-6 in the MINK League.

The A’s jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning and the Mustangs never got closer than three the rest of the game.  They were behind 4-1 and 5-2 before giving up two runs in the ninth and then scoring two in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Mitch Steinhoff suffered the loss as he allowed three runs and four hits in 3.0 innings of work.

Trent Hill had three of the Mustangs’ seven hits.  Hill had two doubles and scored one run.

Brett Bond added a double and two RBI.

The Mustangs on are on the road Sunday as they play at Joplin.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.
