St. Joseph falls at Sedalia for fourth straight MINK League loss

The st. Joseph Mustangs suffered their fourth consecutive MINK League loss Sunday as they fell at Sedalia, 9-4.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 30-14 and 25-14 in the MINK League.

They have now lost four straight league games after going 24-6 during a 30-game stretch against MINK opponents.

Sedalia knocked around Mustangs’ starter Aaron Baker Sunday night.  Baker had done at least eight innings in four straight starts and hadn’t give up any more than seven hits in those games.

On Sunday, Baker allowed eight runs and 14 hits in six innings of work as he is now 4-2 this season.

St. Joseph fell behind 3-0 after two innings thanks in part to three errors, but they did strick in the third to pull within one run.  Mark Robinette and Carlos Rodriguez each had an RBI single.

Sedalia’s Dylan Mays then answered in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run and St. Joe woudn’t get any closer the rest of the way.

Robinette, Jordan Guida and Tanner Lubach had two hits each and they all had one RBI.  Robinette scored twice to lead the Mustangs.

St. Joseph is back on the road Monday for a doubleheader at Joplin.  The first pitch of game one is set for 6:00 p.m.

St. Joseph rallies Saturday but loses to Clarinda in 10 innings

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their third consecutive MINK League game Saturday as they fell at home to Clarinda in 10 innings, 5-4.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team falls to 30-13 this season and 25-13 in the MINK League.

Clarinda scored single runs in the first, third, sixth and seventh innings as they built a 4-0 lead on the Mustangs.

St. Joseph rallied in the seventh as they scored three runs.  Tanner Lubach scored on a wild pitch, Patrick Burkhart scored on a Clarinda error and Mark Robinette drove in Maxime LeFevre with an RBI single.

St. Joe tied the game in the eighth inning as Lubach scored another run on another Clarinda error.

Chris Green was able to send the game to extra innings as he came on in relief in the ninth inning after the A’s loaded the bases against Phillip Wilson.

Green struck out three consecutive batters to keep the game tied 4-4.

Green stayed on for the 10th inning and did take the loss as Clarinda scored on a double steal.

Kyle Jackson started the game and went 6.2 innings as he allowed seven hits and four runs.

Burkhart led the Mustangs with two of their six base hits, including a double.

St. Joseph is back on the road Sunday as they play at Sedalia.  The first pitch is at 7:00 PM and it can be heard on 680 KFEQ.

Mustangs blow three-run lead but score in 9th to defeat NKC

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from back-to-back losses Thursday night at Ozark with a 5-4 non-league win Friday against North Kansas City at Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team blew a two three-run leads but scored a run in the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie and get the victory.

The Mustangs jumped out to a quick lead again as they scored two runs in the first inning.  Jordan Guida had an RBI single and Kris Koerper scored on a double steal.

St. Joe led 3-0 after two as Kyle Simpson drove in Maxime LeFevre with a single, his team-leading 38th RBI this season.

North Kansas City answered with one run in the third before St. Joseph put the lead back to three as Tim Caputo scored on an Apartment error.

Bubba Blau made the start for the Mustangs and he allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings, but North Kansas City got to the bullpen in the eighth inning.

Jonathan McCann gave up three runs on two hits without retiring a batter as NKC tied the game 4-4.

In the ninth inning, LeFevre led off with a walk and eventually Kris Koerper drove him in with a single to win the game.

LeFevre led the way with three hits in the game, while Koerper, Guida and Patrick Burkhart had two hits each.

Mark Robinnette earned the win in relief as he recorded the three outs in the ninth inning all on strickouts.

The Mustangs improve to 30-12 this season as they are back at home Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch with Clarinda.  The game can be heard on ESPN 1550 AM.

St. Joseph drops two games at Ozark Thursday

The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered back-to-back losses for first time since the first week of the season as they were swept in a doubleheader at Ozark Thursday.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team lost game one, 8-7, and they fell in the nightcap, 7-3.

In the opener, Mustangs’ 3B Carlos Rodriguez broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning with a two-out, two-run home run, but Ozark responded on their last at bat.

Darrin Francis hit a walk-off three-run homer off Phillip Wilson to win it for the Generals.

Rodriguez had three hits in his first start, while Mark Robinette and Jordan Guida each hit a home run and added two hits a piece.

In game two, St. Joseph jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first after an RBI single by Robinette and a two-run home run by Kris Koerper.

After that, it was all Ozark.

The Generals scored seven unanswered runs, including two each in the fifth and sixth innings to break a 3-3 tie.

The Mustangs had only three hits after the first inning as Ozark starter Zac Butler threw a complete game.

Tim Caputo had two of St. Joe’s six hits.

Staten Jones fell to 4-1 as he allowed five hits and four runs in four innings.

The Mustangs drop to 29-12 this season and 25-12 in the MINK League. They return home Friday to entertain North Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs beat Omaha to clinch MINK League North title

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Wednesday night as they defeated Omaha inside Phil Welch Stadium, 7-4.

With the win, St. Joe’s summer college baseball team clinched the MINK League North Division championship and guaranteed them a spot in the NBC World Series in Wichita.

It’s the second straight MINK League North title and it’ll be the Mustangs’ third straight trip to the NBC World Series.

Missouri Western’s Kyle Simpson led St. Joseph as he went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Patrick Burkhart had two hits, scored twice and he drove in two runs.

Adam Maddox went 7.1 innings to improve to 3-0 on the mound.  He allowed seven hits and two earned runs.

Chris Green recorded the final three outs of the game for his fifth save of the season.

St. Joseph scored single runs in the first two innings and added another in the fourth before Omaha responded with two in the top of the sixth inning.

The Mustangs answered with two in the bottom of the sixth before Omaha scored two again in the eighth to make it 5-4.

Simpson then came through with a two-out, two-RBI single to put St. Joe back up by three runs.

The Mustangs are back on the road Thursday as they play a doubleheader at Ozark.  The first pitch of game one is at 5:00 p.m. and you can listen live on ESPN 1550 AM.

Mustangs hang on to win at Sedalia Tuesday, 4-2

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their second straight game as they went to Sedalia Tuesday and defeated the Bombers, 4-2.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 28-10 this season and 24-10 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Maxime LeFevre hit a two-out single that scored Jake Kretzer to make it 1-0.

St. Joseph added three more runs in the sixth inning as Tanner Lubach had a one-run single and Shane Segovia drove in two runs with a single.

Sedalia scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but St. Joe’s bullpen duo of Phillip Wilson and Chris Green closed the door.

Wilson got the final two outs of the eighth and Green earned his third save as he recorded the last three outs.

Cody Cunningham went 7.2 innings and improved to 7-0 this season as he allowed two runs and three hits.  Cunningham struck out four and walked four batters.

Segovia led the offense as he finished 3-for-4, while Lubach, Kretzer, Kyle Simpson and Kyle Koerper scored one run each.

The Mustangs are back at home Wednesday as they entertain Omaha at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.

St. Joseph uses big eighth inning to rally past Omaha

The St. Joseph Mustangs rebounded from a loss at Clarinda Sunday as they scored eight runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 9-2 victory at Omaha Monday afternoon.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team struck first Monday in the fourth inning when Shane Segovia had a two-out single that scored Kris Koerper to make it 1-0.

It stayed that way until the seventh inning when Omaha finally broke through against Mustangs’ starter Aaron Baker.

The Diamond Spirit scored twice and led 2-1 after seven.

Kyle Simpson led off the eighth inning with a single for St. Joseph and Omaha pulled starting pitcher Ben Schilz.  The Mustangs then teed off on the Diamond Spirit bullpen.

St. Joe had six hits in the inning after collecting just three through the first seven innings.  The first eight batters reached base and scored.

Simpson and Segovia each had two hits and two RBI for the Mustangs, while Patrick Burkhart drove in two runs.  Mark Robinette, Tanner Lubach and Jake Kretzer had one RBI each.

Baker threw a complete game five-hitter as he allowed just one earned run.  He’s now 4-1 this summer as he struck out eight and walked three batters.

St. Joseph is back on the road Tuesday as they play at Sedalia.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and it’ll be broadcast on 680 KFEQ.

Mustangs lose lead in seventh inning and fall at Clarinda

The St. Joseph Mustangs had their seven-game road win streak snapped Sunday night as they lost at Clarinda, 5-3.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 26-10 this season and 22-10 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs scored in the first inning after Maxime LeFevre opened the game with a bunt single and then stole two bases to get to third.  Kyle Simpson drove him in with an RBI ground out.

Clarinda did answer in the first with its own RBI ground out and the game stayed 1-1 until the sixth inning when Kris Koerper double to drive in Mark Robinette.

The game then got heated in that same inning when Jordan Guida was hit in the head with a pitch and then he got ejected trying to break up a double play at second base.

St. Joseph manager Matt Johnson then got ejected after have a conversation with the umpire in the field.  Then in eighth inning, Mustangs’ outfield Patrick Burkhart was thrown out of the game after supposedly saying something to the umpire.

Amidst all of that, Clarinda took the lead with a four-run seventh inning.  Jarvis Smith hit a three-run double off Ryan Price to cap off the inning.

Bubba Blau (1-2) suffered the loss as he went 6.1 innings and allowed five runs on five hits.  He struck out two and walked six.

LeFevre led St. Joe with three hits, while Robinette and Koerper added two hits each.

The Mustangs remain on the road Monday as they play at Omaha.  The first pitch is at 1:00 p.m. and you can listen live on ESPN 1550 AM.

St. Joseph splits doubleheader with Chillicothe Saturday

The St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader at home with Chillicothe Saturday at Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team lost game one, 7-3, but bounced back to win the night cap, 1-0.

In the opener, Chillicothe scored three runs, two unearned, in the first inning off Mustangs’ starter Kris Koerper.

St. Joseph fell behind 7-0 before finally breaking through in the sixth inning.  Jordan Guida doubled home a run and Jake Kretzer hit a two-RBI double to pull within four runs, but that was as close as they’d get.

Koerper took the loss as he lasted just three innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs.

In game two, the two teams combined for only four hits as St. Joe scored an unearned run in the sixth inning and they held on for the win.

Chillicothe starter Chris Isom didn’t allow a hit until Mustangs’ catcher Josh Baker led off the sixth inning with a single.  Baker then scored on a error by Mudcats’ shortstop Ryan Busch.  Mark Robinette hit a ground ball to Busch that was potentually a double play, but he booted the ball and St. Joseph took the lead.

Staten Jones made the start and went 5.1 innings.  He allowed only two hits but was pulled in the sixth for right-hander Phillip Wilson who recorded the final two outs and got the win.

Chris Green worked a perfect seventh for his third save.

The Mustangs are now 26-9 and 22-9 in the MINK League.  They’re on the road Sunday for a 7:00 p.m. game at Clarinda.  It’ll be broadcast on ESPN 1550.

Mustangs down Nevada for fourth straight victory

The St. Joseph Mustangs pushed their winning streak to four games Friday night with a victory against Nevada, 8-3, inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 25-8 this season and 21-8 in the MINK League, and they’ve now won 11 of their last 12 games.

The Mustangs jumped out to another quick lead as they scored two in the second and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead.

Nevada answered back in the sixth to make it a game with three runs, but St. Joseph pulled away with one run in the seventh and three more in the eighth inning.

St. Joseph starter Kyle Jackson improves to 2-1 this season with the win as he went 6.2 innings and allowed two earned runs and six hits.  The relief trio of Carson Smith, Phillip Wilson and Chris Green threw 2.1 innings of hitless baseball to preserve the victory for Jackson.

Kyle Simpson, Mark Robinette and Tanner Lubach led the offense with two hits each, while Jordan Guida stayed hot as he hit is sixth home run of the summer.  Jake Kretzer added two RBI for the Mustangs.

St. Joe is back at Phil Welch Saturday as they play a doubleheader with Chillicothe beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Both games will air live on ESPN 1550.
