Guida powers Mustangs to win at Clarinda

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their seventh straight road game Thursday night as they defeated Clarinda, 9-4.

It’s the third straight win for St. Joe’s summer college baseball team as they’ve won ten of their last 11 overall.

Jordan Guida led the way Thursday night as he went 5-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored.

The Mustangs fell behind 4-1 after three innings against the A’s, but Guida hit a three-run home run that highlighted a five-run fifth inning to take the lead.

Then Guida and Will Mulligan each hit solo homers in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-4.

Mulligan added three hits, while Patrick Burkhart had two.  Kyle Simpson, Kris Koerper and Tanner Lubach each had one RBI in the win.

Adam Maddox (2-0) threw a complete game four-hitter as he allowed two earned runs while stricking out six and walking just two.

St. Joe improves to 24-8 and 20-8 in the MINK League as they return home Friday to host Nevada at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph cruises past Sedalia on 4th of July

The St.Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game as they scored early and often against Sedalia on Independence Day and cruised to a 13-8 victory at Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team trailed 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first, four more in the second and one run in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead.

Sedalia pulled to within 10-7 after seventh inning, but the Mustangs put the game away with three runs in the eighth.

St. Joseph pounded out 18 hits as Shane Segovia led the way as he went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Kris Koerper, Jordan Guida, Patrick Burkhart and Tim Caputo added three hits each.  Guida drove in four runs, while Burkhart and Caputo added two RBI a piece.

Cody Cunningham started the game for the Mustangs and improved to 6-0.  He allowed just three hits and one earned run over six innings of work, while striking out three and walking four batters.

St. Joseph improves to 23-8 this summer and 19-8 in the MINK League.  They’re back on the road Thursday as they play at Clarinda at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs crush Joplin to get back on winning track

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from their loss to Chillicothe Sunday as they went to Joplin and destroyed the Outlaws, 16-3.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team wasted no time jumping out to a 6-0 lead as they scored one run in the second inning and added five more in the third.

Joplin scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to get within four runs, but that was as close as the Outlaws would get.

St. Joseph added three in the fifth, two more runs in the seventh and four in the eighth inning.

The Mustangs pounded out 20 hits in the game as Mark Robinette led the way as he went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs scored and two doubles.

Maxime LeFevre, Kyle Simpson, Shane Segovia and Josh Baker added three hits each.  Baker drove in four runs and Segovia had two RBI.

Jordan Guida and Jake Kretzer scored three runs each.

Mustangs’ starter Staten Jones improved to 4-0 with the win as he went five inning and allowed three runs and seven htis.  Jones struck out seven and walked three.

St. Joseph improves to 22-8 this season and 18-8 in the MINK League.  They’ve won eight of their last nine games and six straight on the road.

The Mustangs are back at home Tuesday for an exhibition game against the USA Military All-Stars.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs’ winning streak snapped by Chillicothe Sunday

The St. Joseph Mustangs had their seven-game win streak snapped Sunday night as they fell at home to Chillicothe, 2-1.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team drops to 21-8 this season and 17-8 in the MINK League.  Despite the loss, they still lead the North Division by five games over Chillicothe.

St. Joseph jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Shane Segovia led off with a triple and Patrick Burkhart hit a sacrafice fly to right field.

The scored remained 1-0 until the fifth when Chillicothe took its first lead of the game as Mustangs’ starter Bubba Blau hit the leadoff batter Isaac Smith and then Taylor Johnson and Tyler Duplantis each had RBI base hits to make it 2-1.

St. Joe had at least one base runner in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, but they only managed five hits in the game and never pushed a run across.

segovia led the Mustangs as he went 2-for-4.  Burkhart, Kris Koerper and Jordan Guida added had one hit each.

Blau (1-1) took the loss as he lasted just 4.2 innings and allowed two runs and four hits.  He also walked four batters in the game.

Carson Smith and Phillip Wilson came on in relief for St. Joseph and allowed one hit and didn’t give up a run in 4.1 innings of work.

The Mustangs are back in action Monday as they travel to Joplin for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.

Mustangs get postponed after jumping out to 10-0 lead

The St. Joseph Mustangs looked like they were going to cruise to their eighth consecutive win Saturday night against Joplin, but Mother Nature had other ideas and postponed the game at Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the second inning Saturday against the outlaws, but rain and lightning forced the postponement of the game with one out in the top of the third inning.

The game will be continued at a date that is yet to be determined.

St. Joseph scored all ten of its runs with two outs Saturday as Jordan Guida, Tim Caputo and Patrick Burkhart each drove in two runs in the opening inning.

The Mustangs pounded out seven hits in the first and scored eight runs.

St. Joe added two more runs in the second inning as Caputo and Maxime LeFevre drew bases loaded walks.

Kyle Jackson went 2.1 innings before the rain came as he allowed two hits and struck out two.

The Mustangs are back at home Sunday night as they entertain Chillicothe at 7:00 p.m.  You can listen to the game on ESPN 1550.

St. Joseph sweeps Joplin to extend win streak to seven

The St. Joseph Mustangs stayed hot Friday night as they swept a doubleheader from Joplin inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team won the opener 6-4 and then took game two by a score of 5-0.

The Mustangs have now won a season-high seven games and they’ve also won 13 of their last 14.  St. Joseph is 19-3 since they started the season 2-4.

In game one, St. Joe struck early with three runs in the first innings as Kyle Simpson, Kris Koerper and Shane Segovia each had an RBI base hit.

Joplin pulled to within one run in the second inning but the Mustangs took control with one run in the bottom of the second and two more in the third.

Jordan Guida hit a home run and drove in two runs, while Koerper and Segovia had two hits each.

Jonathan McCann pick up the win on the mound as he went five innings and allowed six hits and four runs.

In game two, St. Joseph starter Nik Jurado threw a seven inning complete game shutout as he gave up just three hits and he struck out four.  The Missouri Western grad is now 2-0 this season.

The Mustangs broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the fourth inning.

Max LeFevre, Kyle Simpson, Mark Robinettte and Jake Kretzer had two hits each in the second game.

Mustangs win fifth straigth with 6-2 victory over Clarinda

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their fifth consecutive game Thursday night as they defeated Clarinda, 6-2, inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team jumped on the A’s in the first inning as Kyle Simpson had an RBI single that scored Maxime LeFevre and then Kris Koerper doubled home Mark Robinette to take a 2-0 lead.

The game stayed that was until the sixth inning when Mustangs loaded the bases in both the sixth and seventh innings and were able to score two runs in each inning.

Simpson, Koerper and Tanner Lubach had three hits each, while Simpson drove in two runs and Lubach scored twice.  Shane Segovia and Jake Kretzer also had one RBI each.

Cody Cunningham stayed perfect this summer as he improved to 5-0 in his fifth start.  He went seven innings and allowed just two hits and no runs.  Cunningham struck out five and walked three.

St. Joseph improves to 19-7 this season as they’ve now won 11 of their last 12 games and they’re 17-3 in their last 20.  The Mustangs are atop the MINK League with a 15-7 record.

St. Joe is back at home Friday as they host Joplin in a doubleheader that begins at 6:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs start fast and hang on to win at Ozark

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their fifth consecutive road game Wednesday night with a 14-11 victory at Carthage, Missouri, against the Ozark Generals.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 18-7 this summer and 14-7 in the MINK League.  They’ve won four in-a-row overall and ten of their last 11 games.

The Mustangs jumped out to a quick start with a two-run home run from Kris Koerper in the first inning, but Ozark bounced back in the second and tied the game with a two-run homer from Jay Rollinson.

St. Joseph then took over with three runs in the third, two in the fourth inning and six runs in the fifth to take a 13-2 lead.

Ozark chipped away at the lead and pulled to within three runs in the eighth inning after scoring four runs, but that was as close as they’d get.

Koerper had three hits and drove in a career-high five runs.  Kyle Simpson and Mark Robinette also had three hits each and they both had two RBI.  Jordan Guida and Will Mulligan each had two hits and drove in one run.

Staten Jones improved to 3-0 with the win on the mound.  He went 5.2 innings and allowed nine hits and seven runs, but he struck out 11 Ozark batter and walked three.

Chris Green struck out the side in the ninth inning for his first save of the season.

St. Joseph is back at home Thursday as they host Clarinda at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.

Mustangs sweep doubleheader at Chillicothe

The St. Joseph Mustangs stayed hot after a day off Monday as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team swept a doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday night.

The Mustangs won game one, 6-0, and cruised to a 6-2 win in game two.

St. Joseph improves to 17-7 and 13-7 in the MINK League and they’ve won three straight games.  The Mustangs have also won nine of their last 10 games and they’re 15-3 in their last 18 ballgames.

In the opener, Missouri Western’s Kyle Simpson led the way with three hits and four RBI.  Mark Robinette added two hits and he drove in two runs, while Maxime LeFevre scored twice.

Adam Maddox picked up his first win this season as he threw six shutout innings in the seven inning game.  He allowed just one hit, struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

In game two, St. Joe fell behind 2-1 after two innings but then the Mustangs scored single runs in the third and fourth inning and pulled away with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.

St. Joseph took advantage of five Chillicothe errors as they scored six unearned runs.

Benton graduate Jake Kretzer finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Patrick Burkhart added two hits and Robinette scored three runs.

Carson Smith earned the win in relief as he went 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit and no runs.

Bubba Blau started the game lasted only 3.2 innings.  He gave up five hits and two runs, while striking out five batters and walking three.

The Mustangs are back on the road Wednesday as they play at Ozark.  The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. and you can listen to the game on 680 KFEQ.

Mustangs scored 10 unanswered runs to win at Nevada

The St. Joseph Mustangs bounced back from their loss on Saturday night to Sedalia, as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team went to Nevada Sunday and beat the Griffons, 10-4.

The Mustangs fell behind early as they were down 4-0 after four innings, but St. Joseph struck for five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead and then scored three more in the sixth.

Kris Koerper delivered the big blow in the fifth inning with a three-run double that tied the game 4-4 and then Shane Segovia hit a sacrifice fly to give St. Joe the lead.

In the sixth inning, Kyle Simpson drove in Maxime LeFevre with a single and then Jordan Guida hit a two-out two run single to make it 8-4.

LeFevre added to the lead in the eighth inning as he stole home and then Jake Kretzer drove in a run in the ninth to cap off the scoring.

Simpson had two hits and two RBI, Mark Robinette added two hits and two runs, and LeFevre scored three runs in the game.

Aaron Baker improved to 3-1 as he went eight inning to get the victory.  Baker allowed seven hits and four runs as he struck out three and walked three.

St. Joseph improves to 15-7 this season and 11-7 in the MINK League.  They’ve won 13 of their last 16 games after a 2-4 start.

The Mustangs are off Monday and go on the road Tuesday to Chillicothe for a doubleheader that begins at 6:00 p.m.
