St. Joseph defeats Clarinda for 20th win of the season

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game Friday night and they moved to 3-0 against Clarinda with a 4-2 win against the A’s.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 20-6 this season and 17-6 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead as they scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, and then added two more in the fifth.

St. Joseph only had three hits in the game, but they took advantage of six walks and drove in two runs with two sacrifice flys.

Jackson Schnurbusch had two of the Mustangs’ hits and he drove in one run, while Orencio Fisher, Jacob Richardson and Francisco Alvarez had one RBI each.

Trent Kinney earned the win for St. Joe as he allowed one earned run and four hits in 5.1 innings of work.  Four Mustang relievers shut down Clarinda the rest of the way as Ross Juliana, Humberto Medina, Jake Harper and Steve D’Amico combined to go 3.2 innings and they allowed no runs and only two hits.

The Mustangs play a non-league game at Phil Welch Stadium Saturday night as they host the Midwest A’s at 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph splits doubleheader with Chillicothe Thursday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader with Chillicothe Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium, falling in game one 3-1 before bouncing back to win the second game 7-0.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 19-6 this season and 16-6 in the MINK League.

In game one, the Mustangs only had two hits in the game as Chillicothe starter Sean Rackowski threw a seven-inning complete-game.

The Mudcats scored two in the third inning and added one run in the seventh.

St. Joseph made it a 2-1 game in the fourth inning and had the bases loaded with one out, but failed to score a run.

The Mustangs’ Jacob Richardson had a triple and Ramsey Scott drove in the only run with a single.

Miles Gully suffered the loss as he allowed two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work.

In game two, St. Joe used a four-run third inning and a three-run fourth, and that’s all they would need as the game was called in the top of the 6th inning because of lightning.

In the third inning, Orencio Fisher, Jerry Houston, Josh Cassidy and Scott each had a two-out RBI hit, while Fisher and Powell each drove in a run in the fourth.

Fisher and Houston each finished with two hits.

Preston Felgate earned the win as he is now 4-0.  He allowed no runs and five hits in 5.2 innings pitched.

The Mustangs play at home again Friday as they host Clarinda at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs win series at Ozark with 13-6 victory Wednesday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs defeated Ozark Wednesday night in Springfield 13-6 as they won two of the three games in the series.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 18-5 and they’re 15-5 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning before the Generals answered with three of their own in the bottom of the third.

It was all St. Joseph after that as they scored in every inning except the fifth and they’ve won three of their last four games and six of their last eight.

Jacob Richardson led the Mustangs’ 16-hit attack as he finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI.  Jerry Houston, Josh Cassidy, Tony Maselli, Jackson Schnurbusch and Jordan Powell each had two hits in the game, and Scott Braren hit his first home run of the season and drove in three.

Mitch Steinhoff started for St. Joe and didn’t make it out of the third as he struggled with his control.  He walked five in 2.1 innings and he allowed three runs on three hits.

Ross Juliana earned the win in relief as he gave up just one run on two hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

The Mustangs return to Phil Welch Stadium Thursday for a doubleheader with the Chillicothe Mudcats.  The first pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m.  Both games will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.

St. Joseph Mustangs split doubleheader at Ozark

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader against the Ozark Generals in Springfield Tuesday, losing game one 9-4 before bouncing back to win the second game 9-1.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 17-5 this season and they’re 14-5 in the MINK League.  The win in the opener for Ozark snapped an eight-game losing streak as they’re now 4-14.

In game one, the Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and they led 5-1 at the end of the third inning.  The Mustangs pulled to within two runs in the sixth before Ozark put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Dixon Marble suffered the loss as he allowed five runs and six hits in just three innings of work.  He struck out four and walked two.

Trent Hill led the offense as he finished 2-for-4 with one RBI.  No one else had more than one hit, but Jerry Houston, Tony Maselli and Ramsey Scott each had one run batted in.

In game two, Blake Kolons got a spot start for St. Joseph and he through a seven inning complete-game for the win.  He gave up just one run on five hits and improves to 2-0 this season.

The Mustangs scored two in the first, one in the second and cruised from there.  They scored in all but two innings and capped it off with a three-run ninth.

Orencio Fisher and Josh Cassidy each had three hits and two RBI, while Ramsey Scott finised the game 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

St. Joseph will play in Springfield again Wednesday as they complete the three-game series with Ozark.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.

Mustangs get road win at Clarinda Monday night 12-7

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs picked up a road win at Clarinda Monday night, 12-7, as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 16-4 this season and 13-4 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs trailed 4-2 after four innings and 5-4 after five, but St. Joseph scored five unanswered runs to take the lead for good.

They scored two runs or more in five of the final six innings of the game, including three insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

Trent Hill and Brett Bond each went 3-for-5 in the game.  Hill drove in two runs and scored three, while Bond scored twice and an had one RBI.

Jacob Richardson added three runs batted in, while he and Orencio Fisher had two hits each.

Logan Jacik earned his first win of the season as he allowed five runs on five hits in six innings of work.  He struck out six and walked just one batter.

The Mustangs continue their four-game road trip with a doubleheader Tuesday in Springfield against the Ozark Generals.  The first pitch of game one is set for 5:00 p.m.

St. Joseph gets rained out at Chillicothe Sunday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs had their game at Chillicothe Sunday night postponed due to rain.

The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader in Chillicothe on Tuesday, June 30.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team still sits atop the MINK League as they’re 15-4 overall and 12-4 in league play.  The Mudcats are tied with Clarinda for second in the North Division as they are each 10-7 this season.

The Mustangs are on the road Monday as they play in Clarinda against the A’s.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 and here on StJosephPost.com.

Mustangs fall at home Saturday to Sedalia 6-3

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs had their three-game winning streak snapped Saturday night inside Phil Welch Stadium as they fell to Sedalia, 6-3.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 0-2 against the Bombers this season but they’re 15-4 overall and 12-4 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Ramsey Scott ground out that scored Orencio Fisher.  Sedalia scored a run in the second to tie the game and then St. Joseph took a 3-1 in the third.

Jacob Richardson had an RBI double in the inning and Josh Cassidy drove in Richardson with a single.

The Bombers then took control of the game with a five-run fifth inning.  Four of the runs in the inning were scored off Mustangs’ starter Trent Kinney, who failed to record an out in the fifth.

He suffered the loss as he drops to 1-1.  Kinney allowed five runs and five runs in 4+ innings of work.

Cassidy and Jordan Powell led the offense with two hits each.

St. Joe is on the road Sunday as they travel to Chillicothe to play the Mudcats for the first time this season.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ AM and here on StJosephPost.com.

St. Joseph finishes off three-game sweep of Ozark

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs defeated Ozark 3-2 Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium to sweep their three-game home series with the Generals.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 15-3 this season and 12-3 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third as Josh Cassidy hit a two-out, two RBI single.

Ozark came back with two runs off St. Joseph starter Tanner Smith in the fifth inning, but the Mustangs’ took the lead back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Houston that scored Scott Braren.

Smith went 6.0 innings to get the win as he allowed two runs on five hits.  He struck out three and walked four.

Humberto Medina threw two perfect innings and Steve D’Amico threw a perfect ninth for his third save of the season.

The Mustangs wrap up their five-game homestand Saturday as they host Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs get a doubleheader sweep of Ozark Thursday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs snapped their two-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Ozark Thursday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.  St. Joe’s summer college baseball team rallies to win game one 6-2 and they blanked the Generals in the nightcap 7-0.

The Mustangs improve to 14-3 this season and 11-3 in the MINK League.

In game one, Ozark scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead before the Mustangs rallied with a six-run sixth inning to take the lead and eventually get the win.

Trent Hill finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and Francisco Alvarez had a two-RBI single in the sixth inning.  Orencio Fisher and Jacob Richardson also drove in one run each.

Miles Gully earned the win as he allowed just three hits and one earned run in six innings of work.

In game two, St. Joseph starter Preston Felgate threw a seven inning complete-game shutout.  He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter as he allowed just four hits.  Felgate retired the final 13 batters he faced as he improves to 3-0 this summer.

The Mustangs scored two in the first inning and broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning.  In the fourth, Ozark pitchers combined to walked six batters as St. Joe scored its five runs without getting a hit.  The Generals also committed two errors in the inning.

Orencio Fisher and Evan McDonald each finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.  McDonald and Scott Braren had one RBI apiece on bases loaded walks.

The Mustangs play the Generals again Friday night as the first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph drops second straight as they lose to Joplin 5-4

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their second consecutive loss as they fell to the Joplin Outlaws 5-4 Wednesday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.

It’s the first losing streak of the season for St. Joe’s summer college baseball team as they drop to 12-3 and 9-3 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs let a two-run lead after seven innings slip away as Trent Hill came on in relief in the eighth.  Joplin scored three runs off Hill to recapture the lead and they hung on for the win.

St. Joseph fell behind 2-0 in the third inning before scoring two runs in the fourth to tie it and then Orencio Fisher hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Mustangs the lead.

St. Joe only had six hits in the game and no one had more than one.  Hill and Josh Cassidy each had a double as Hill also drove in a run.

Mustangs’ starter Dixon Marble received a no-decision as he allowed four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work.

St. Joseph is back at home Thursday as they play a doubleheader against the Ozark Generals.  The first pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m. and both games will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM and here on StJosephPost.com.
